A Logan Hall Clone On The Way?

April 6th, 2023

Northwestern DL Adetomiwa Adebawore.

If there is a knock on second-year defensive lineman Logan Hall, it’s that he’s a tweener. He not really a 34 defensive end and he’s not really a nose tackle.

It seems the Bucs have interest in similar lineman. Northwestern defensive lineman Adetomiwa Adebawore will be brought into One Buc Palace for one of the Bucs’ 30 predraft visits, per Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network.

Adebawore is labeled as a “tweener,” a bit shorter than an ideal end and a bit too light to be a nose tackle. Apparently, he balled out in Senior Bowl practices and those types of players lure the attention of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Emory Hunt of CBS Sports, the Czar of the Playbook, grades Adebawore as a solid NFL starter in his 2023 Football Gameplan Draft Guide.

Strengths: Extremely quick and explosive off the ball. Is consistently able to win the ‘hands first’ battle in the trenches with the OL. Does a great job of using length to extend and occupy the gap. In combination with his quickness, able to incorporate a few moves to beat the Guard 1-on-1 to get into the backfield. Versatile and athletic enough to play anywhere upfront in any one of the techniques, and even drop back into zone coverage.

The crowd at Walter Football believes Adebawore is a second-day draft pick.

Joe has no issue with the Bucs drafting a defensive lineman. Not at all. But Joe has to wonder, after signing veteran Greg Gaines, if the Bucs draft Adebawore, what would that say about what the Bucs think of Hall’s development?

if the Bucs draft Adebawore, what’s that tell you what the Bucs think of Hall’s development?

It tells me nothing about what they think of Hall’s development.

You can never have enough talented D-Linemen, and if this guy can go from a front 3 position to an edge, it creates more flexibility to shift fronts pre-snap.

I find it ridiculous that all these clowns (including Joe) are already ready to give up on Hall. How many rookies do nothing and develop later? A LOT. Especially D-linemen.

Has Joe given up on Logan Hall?

No, but not a good sign when a rookie gets worse his first year in the NFL.

  4. Sly Pirate Says:

    Thank you, Sasquatch.
Gholston, Shaq, Carlton Davis, Dean, even LVD had not-so-great rookie seasons. For some reason everyone thinks 20-21 year old college players need to be Pro bowlers year one, with no knowledge of system, players, opponents, etc.

If you asked the coaches, they’d say that he improved. Bowles has said on many occasions that he saw the light beginning to come on later in the season. He’s just got to add some weight and strength, and he should be fine, like MANY rookie defensive linemen. Generally speaking, I’ll take the coaches’ assessments over Joe’s or any of the JBF commenters.

The ‘”Knock” on Logan Hall is that the Joe-Joes love Jason leitch a little too much. They can’t see that JL is a bad GM selecting a 7th round talent so high. It’s just another bad draft pick by JL. After all, JL traded up into the 2nd round for a kicker who sucked and didn’t last long int he NFL.

  7. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Damn Jason must’ve stole your girl so much hate for somebody you never met

  8. sasquatch Says:

A 7th round talent? That’s ignorant. Logan Hall was deemed by all the draft publications I saw last year as no worse than a 2nd round pick.

  9. Usfbuc Says:

Yes his draft profile is still up on NFL.com and he was projected to be an average starter and a second round pick.

I say let’s get Kansas St defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah. He bends well, is fast off the corner n string. He also has an eye for the ball. He’s a head’s up type player with football intelligence. Often plows through multiple blocks, up to three at a time, amazing! He’s unbelievable. Super relentless. He brings swag to the defense, something we haven’t had since Sapp’s departure. We are in need of this guy. Watch the tapes for yourself.

  11. Joe in Michigan Says:

If someone is STILL whining about a busted 2nd Round pick from 2016, who happened to be a kicker, I’d say they’re a crybaby.

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

There will be plenty of edge rushers to pick from, instead of taking this guy. I believe Logan Hall will be at least decent/above average (Will Gholston-type with a little more pass rush) once he puts on some more weight.

  13. bob in valrico Says:

He listed at the weight as big Will but 4 inches shorter. Although I am not sure
if that is the weight that Gholston has played at recently. Way to early to make any comparisons but he is almost the same size and weight as Aaron Donald.

    Ho humm …Another project…. Nope!

  16. Beej Says:

Had not Hicks messed up his foot Hall wouldn’t have been forced into the lineup, I believe he’ll be capable this year

What? The “rookie wall” is a known entity in the game of football, it really isn’t that uncommon and there are players that have their performance trail off around November in their rookie years because it’s their first times playing a schedule with more games. Obviously not every single rookie hits a rookie wall, but it’s known that the wall is there as an obstacle.

  18. Andrew Fish Says:

love to see them find another Dline that is really strong like Vea or Wirfs. I feel like Licht sucks at finding the speed and skill defensive lineman but knows how to find the strong power guys.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

He’s slightly smaller and only 6’2.
    Fifth round maybe.

Why water this down by prefacing with “generally speaking?” We are not dealing with just “a coach’s” assessment. This was specifically Todd Bowels’ assessment. He does not seem to have a problem with not saying what he truly means (and is often just plain clueless).

  21. Mike Says:

You guys worried about his 6’2″ size need to realize he compares to Sapp and Aaron Donald, etc. so I’m not worried about that at all. If the guy can ball and dominate, you better draft him.

  22. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I LIKE THE LOOK,SOUND & NAME OF THIS YOUNG MAN..,WE NEED A PLAYER LIKE THIS TO START & GIVE US DEPTH ROTATION ( JOE TRYON-SHOYINKA HAS UNDERWELMED ME AS PLAYER DRAFTED AS HIGH AS THE 1ST ROUND ( HE’S PLAYED LIKE AN AVERAGE PLAYER) LOGAN HALL JUST NEEDS TO PLAY MORE !..I’D DRAFT THIS GUY IN A HEARTBEAT !

  23. Rod Munch Says:

He ran a 4.49 at 282 pounds? Wow.

At 6′ 2″ and 282, he’s absolutely a tweener – but with that speed he could profile as an OLB, depending on his instincts. But, at that size, would seem to be a much more natural 4-3 DE.

As for those worried about his height. You’re idiots. Warren Sapp and Aaron Donald are both ‘short’ guys.

With all that said I know nothing about the guy, except for what Tony Dungy said … you build your defense, front to back, meaning you start with the line.

  24. BUCman Says:

I said it when they drafted him. Logan Hall was a horrible, horrible pick! I kept screaming at my TV last year NO, NO but they drafted him anyway. He should be nicknamed the invisible man because you never saw him on the field even though game stats suggest that he played. That’s two years in a row that they blew the first pick. JTS has done nothing either. They need to stop reaching to fill a particular immediate need and just draft the best f…ing player available

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

I posted here, the day they drafted him- that Logan Hall is a tweener.
I really liked last years draft- still do.
But Hall was the pick that I thought wouldnt contribute to the team.

What the hell is it with Jason Licht and 2nd round picks??

  26. Ed Says:

BUCman said it all. Quit trying to be cute with these drafts and pick defensive linemen that have the dog in them rather than fast athletic guys like JTS that barely have the kitten in him.

The Bucs have gone after defensive linemen that are freaky athletically like JTS is fast and Vea is strong but JTS doesn’t have the weight or drive to be a dominant edge guy and Vea only plays part time and has injuries due to him being overweight.

Licht has done some solid drafting but the best pass rushers the team has had in the past 5 years have been free agents or trade players. Barrett, JPP and Suh were the most dominant defensive lineman on the team. Hall and JTS have been invisible in key points and third downs and Vea plays less than 50 snaps a game.

Licht has overreached on these players. Even Devin White now that we see him in 4 full seasons was a reach. Too much potential and not enough show up every Sunday and make plays.
