Did Jason Licht Consult Mark Wahlberg About Baker Mayfield?

March 16th, 2023

Prediction realized.

Call actor Mark Wahlberg a visionary. And yes, this has something to do with the Bucs.

As all Bucs fans know by now, the Bucs signed Baker Mayfield yesterday. He will go up against competing Kyle Trask this summer and the winner will be the Bucs’ starting quarterback.

So what does this have to do with the Bucs?

Back in 2018, Wahlberg, a devout Tom Brady fan and Belicheats follower, developed a friendship of sorts with Mayfield. He even worked out with the former Browns signal-caller turned Bucs quarterback.

So five years ago, caught on film by TMZ, Wahlberg declared that someday Mayfield would be Brady’s successor. And now in 2023, Wahlberg’s claim came to be.

Only Mayfield is replacing Brady in Tampa.

Funny how the circle of life rolls.

So Joe wonders if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has some sort of relationship with Wahlberg or if Wahlberg reached out to Licht to put a good word in for his workout pal Mayfield?

    I seriously doubt it.

  5. Wokeizdunn Says:

He is not really replacing Brady and he is not yet, if ever, the starter. So it’s a coincidence at best. A loose one. Let’s hope both QBs are on fire during camp and it’s a tough choice on who to start.

I CAN agree, however, Mayfield is nothing without a clean pocket, so if he plays like that AND beats out Trask, it makes for a long season…and thank goodness they didn’t play a lot.

  6. Lt. Dan Says:

I believe that the stink of being a Panther, and all that comes with playing for that team still lingers on Mayfield. Give him a full offseason to acclimate to Canels run first offense and he’ll be just fine.

    LOL

Well isn’t this posting just “RICH” to say the least??????

This was just DUMB luck honestly.

…….but furthermore, there were many rumors about the Bucs being interested LAST YEAR when Cleveland was looking to trade him……..

So it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Bucs contacted his agent……

  10. JD Still Says:

So did Wahlberg also advise Cleveland to fire Mayfield , and Carolina to fire Mayfield , and LA to fire Mayfield ,all within a year, and then “Advise” Brady to retire, all so he could “advise”, Tampa to hire Mayfield to a one year, backup money contract so he could follow Brady? Yes! Yes! Of Course! That must be what happened!

  11. rrsrq Says:

    Nostra-Wahlberg. Who knew.

BTW: love the Pats fans that get all spun up over Joes monikers.

  15. Lakeland Steve Says:

I have news for Kyle Trask fans. If the Bucs thought Trask was a starting caliber QB they wouldn’t have gone out and paid Baker $8 mil to come to Tampa to “compete” with Trask for the starting gig. They don’t pay someone $8 mil to be a backup QB. So spoiler alert, barring injury Baker Mayfield will be the Bucs starter at QB on opening day.

He has shown that he suck at least we haven’t seen Trask with the starters so that’s why a people wants to see him to see if he’s good or not. But we know Baker Mayfield suck.
