Aaron Stinnie Returns

March 14th, 2023

Bucs G Aaron Stinnie.

One of the heroes of the 2020 Super Bowl run for the Bucs will be back.

Guard Aaron Stinnie, who filled in for Alex Cappa at right guard when Cappa injured his foot against the WTF in the playoffs and was lost for the season, has agreed to return to the Bucs, reports Jeremy Fowler of BSPN.

Replacing Cappa in the playoffs, you never would have guessed Cappa was out. Stinnie played excellent ball as the Bucs won the Super Bowl.

Last year Stinnie blew out a knee in the final worthless preseason game while playing in the second half — often a bad sign for job security.

It seems the Bucs and Stinnie will give it another shot this summer.

Very nice, instant body count swap for Mason and likely the same production for a lot less money

  2. Doug Says:

    Nice

  3. Jon Grudin Says:

Now Bucs can trade Mason for another pick and some cap relief. Draft another OT and the O-line is set.

  4. Goatfarmer Says:

Good — very good. Stinnie >>> Oneil Cousins >>>>> Goedonkey.

  5. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    Awesome.

  6. SKBucsFan Says:

Good re-signing. Need a couple more of these signings.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Very good news indeed. Any news Joe on how his rehab is coming along? There’s been just about zero news on what happened to him or how his rehab is going since the injury.

  8. Winky Says:

    Go Bucs!

NEWSFLASH: That already happened. News came out this morning.

  10. Usfbuc Says:

Good signing, looking forward to more good news

  11. Marine Buc Says:

Nice. We lost an OG today and gained an OG today.

I hope Stinnie is 100%. He should be ready to go – he injured his knee in preseason.

  12. sasquatch Says:

Stinnie was fighting for a roster spot, not the starting job. Odds are he’ll be fighting for a roster spot again. If he can be the backup center, that’ll help him.

  13. HC Grover Says:

Our scrubs are now the starters. Lets bring in the practice squad.

  14. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Great news.

  15. Jack Clark Says:

Great, now lets pickup Matt Ryan for cheap and hope our OC can resurrect his career like he did Geno Smith

All the way from your couch! Blah blah, some people should just go away.

  17. Kgh4life Says:

Hopefully he doesn’t get anybody hurt.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

Matt Ryan is not the worst idea ever, if he’d play for a couple stake pretzels.

  19. DrunkinYbor Says:

Love the man. He balled out when we needed it the most. Im surprised he didn’t have takers for a longer contract and a bit more money.

  20. Ko Kieft Klan Says:

Just hoping no guaranteed money on this contract, and it’s heavily incentive laden. Don’t hate the guy as a depth signing but question giving a guy a raise after missing an entire season with a major injury

  21. Fansince76 Says:

    Very good signing!
when the guy is healthy he can play guard.

bucs quietly filling out the best OL in the NFC.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

So Mason cost us $5m to keep, and instead you get Stennie at $2.5m. I know because of the cap the team is penny pitching, but that’s a bad tradeoff for $2.5m in cap space.

  24. Chris Stewart Says:

    Building a contender

You might be drinking a little too much koolaid.

If we can find a LT who can play, and Hainsey and Goedeke take steps up, then we could have a good line. That’s a lot of questions and our only proven top level starters are Jensen and WIrfs… and Jensen has to demonstrate he can play well on that rehabbed knee.

They have a lot to prove as a unit (and we don’t even know who will play where) before we can even call them good.

That said, I think we have good talent to work with, but need to draft a tackle.

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … ‘that’s a bad tradeoff for $2.5m in cap space’.

When it comes to penny-pinching, that $2.5 mil savings will pay for THREE of the bottom guys on the roster. IF none of them hit, then it’s a bad deal. But IF just one of the three contributes, AND IF Stinnie rebounds & contributes, then we’ll come out well ahead. I just thought it sounds a lot like playing poker, but actually craps might be a more appropriate metaphor, simile, whatever.

  27. sasquatch Says:

It’s “up to” 2.5 million… which means he’s probably getting quite a bit less but has starter incentives… and he’s unlikely to be a starter.

  28. steele Says:

(Shrug) Stinnie was not consistent, but he is a known quantity. Depth if nothing else. A prudent move.

  29. Goatfarmer Says:

Goedonkey should learn to snap the clipboard to #2. That clipboard exchange is critical.

  30. optimisticbucfan Says:

Wait…he is coming off a knee?

    How bad?

  31. optimisticbucfan Says:

He might not even make the roster

  32. sasquatch Says:

He was borderline last year before the injury. We’ll see if he’s fully rehabbed and can be a solid backup. At this point, Leverett has more starting experience.

    Depth Chart Pre- Draft

LT Tristan Wirfs | Brandon Walton
LG Nick Leverett | John Molchon
C Ryan Jensen | Robert Hainsey
RG Aaron Stinnie | Michael Niese
RT Luke Goedeke | Justin Skule

  34. Brandon Says:

What do you know? Called that one too! I’m two for two.

  35. WhosOurQB Says:

Solid signing to offset trading Shaq Mason … Only a Tackle away from Oline being set

  36. WhosOurQB Says:

    Hopefully #54 is next ….

  37. optimisticbucfan Says:

We are relying on someone who blew out knees in b2b seasons?

Hasn’t played meaningful snaps in 2 years?

Seriously? We just prop up every move like its gold now?

  38. Infomeplease Says:

Somebody has to suit up at right guard.

  39. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Good news.

  40. Alstott up the gut Says:

I am happy about this as well. Must not be forgotten how he filled in for A. Cappa during that postseason run! Hope he worked hard to come back from his injury.

  41. Winny Testaverde Says:

Maybe not play him in the final preseason game…at the end of the game no less…if you’re going to sign him post-injury to an enhanced deal. Bowles You Over With Brilliance…

He KILLED in in the biggest game of any NFL player’s life. On WHAT basis can you ignore that?

  43. SOEbuc Says:

Except for the LT position, trenches need to be worked on in depth, especially DL with no more Nacho (bad idea). Don’t mess with Wirfs being one of the best OL and move him to LT. The faithful fans that badly bashes first year division winning HC and Bucs are destined to fall from a mountain top this year want to switch him to LT THIS YEAR??? If Wirfs shows up huge at LT and practice squad Trask or b!tch boy Baker totally F’s it up, how much more dough will he receive at LT??? Move to LT after a RT contract that will be extremely large deal. I don’t totally know the deal with Jensen’s contract, but if we could save a nice chunk of change and more, he’s who I’m trading compared to any other talented young players like Godwin or losing LVD in FA??? LVD is consistent and had one of his best years compared to Jensen that just got ACL and was under the GOAT of OL communication in Brady.

Am I totally wrong at any point here??? Love to hear input.

  44. SOEbuc Says:

*” Move to LT after a RT contract that will be extremely large deal.”

If.necessary. Let’s get a rookie LT rookie Wirfs type in the draft.

I didn’t say anything that hadn’t been reported about his status in camp last year. I’m just the messenger.

He had a good run in the playoffs. Apparently they weren’t seeing that standard in his play in training camp and preseason last year.

I have nothing against him. I’d love to see him step up. Just being realistic. We’ll see how it turns out.

I have to say…I don’t recall him being so great. Maybe I forgot…

  49. sasquatch Says:

If Stinnie and Leverett are the starting guards, we might be in trouble. More likely the starting guards are Hainsey and Goedeke, both of whom have more upside. Goedeke should be fine after a rough beginning last year. We’ll have to draft a tackle who can start. Leverett and maybe Stinnie are the primary interior backups.

  51. Dooley Says:

    @LuvMyBucs

Skule has actually played more T in the NFL than Goedeke. You’re missing Grant Hermanns and Dylan Cook at tackle and all you guys are killing me with this Goedeke at RT projections.

  52. Cobraboy Says:

Solid player, fingers crossed his knee is fine.

  53. Goatfarmer Says:

Stop the talk about hoping Goedonkey can play. He’s a poor man’s Oneil Cousins.
