Derwin James Looks Up To Bucs

February 27th, 2023

It’s about the ring.

This is a funny one Joe has had in his holster and is breaking out as Joe is flying to Indianapolis for the NFL Winter Festival known as the combine.

Joe was at Pro Bowl media availability earlier this month and struck up a conversation with All-Pro safety Derwin James.

Joe told James he was so popular with Bucs fans it took the Bucs to win the Super Bowl before folks quit hollering that the Bucs didn’t draft him in 2018 and instead drafted the beast that is Vita Vea.

This was James’ reaction verbatim.

“They could have had me and Dalvin Cook!” the Haines City native laughed.

That’s so true, but the Bucs got the right guy. The Bucs needed someone to replace Gerald McCoy, who clearly was on the downside of his career. And Joe is convinced the Bucs don’t beat the Packers in the 2020 NFC Championship game without Vea, who had returned from a broken ankle for that game.

Vea was blowing up the inside of the Packers’ offensive line and helped free Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett. Shaq went wild that day with three sacks and four quarterback hits.

James put everything in perspective just like Joe does.

“But hey, the Bucs won a Super Bowl,” James said. “They got the jewelry. That’s all that matters. I’m still chasing.”

And there you have it. Yeah, without Vea, the Bucs likely don’t win the Super Bowl. And it’s all about the ring.

If Derwangus looks up to the Bucs, he must be a lot shorter than he’s listed in the program.

  2. ATLBuc Says:

The mighty Kyle Trask will lead us to another ring this year!!

  3. Mike C Says:

Goatfarmer, as much as it pains you, half the league is looking up at the Bucs.

As much as the Bucs got the “Right Guy” when they drafted VV , they got the “Wrong Guy” when they drafted Logan Hall instead of staying put and drafting LVD’s replacement in Devin Lloyd. Licht needs to draft well this year and if he does Bucs can and will compete for the division.

    Instead…
    They got
    Vita Vea
Carlton Davis (from a great trade!)
    Alex Cappa
    Jordan Whitehead…
    And a Super Bowl !
    Chargers and Vikings ?!

Something had to overcome Brady’s 3 picks.

Just like the mighty Tom Brady did last year!!

As a bucs fan the best hope is that they shelf assets after training camp and prior to week 1 from “season ending injuries” and injured reserve. That way they can acquire more assets in the draft next year and can fully rebuild to a contender in the shortest amount of time. Realistically There is opportunity to extend a couple of players, but opportunity should be presented to those vets to decide how they want to map out their future. Anybody not on board with the direction could be traded and also given opportunity to walk in free agency on one year prove it deals until the bucs can commit to their salaries. There is little room for optimism with Trash as the starting QB and the commitment of taking on the salary of any of the QBs on the market will cause deficiencies in other positions that would be more significant than the possible improvement at QB. I say commit to drafting a day 2 or 3 pick at QB, let them compete for the starting spot, draft a qb next year in the top 5 round next year to sit and learn the offense from whoever adequately preformed the year before, facing challenges of working and building the team depth to make a much more well rounded team. The problem that the bucs face is that with the upcoming schedule is that they are probably a playoff caliber team next year even with Trask at the helm. Tanking this one season would probably put some jobs on extremely hot seats but it would be beneficial in the long run bc every year the bucs won’t end up with as easy of a schedule as this year.

I was in on the Vea train

    BUT NOW…….he’s suspect…..last year exposed his play……

…he’s essentially ineffective if he doesn’t have a good or DT or RE/LE playing on the line next to him.

He’s not a game wreaker ……..and Warren Sapp was 100% right on him!!!!!

  10. Yungry Says:

The Bucs also “could’ve” drafted Josh Allen.

  11. Infomeplease Says:

I’ll take the Lombardi every time!! If only JL had a functional crystal ball he might of given Matt Gay another year or two or drafted differently the past couple of years.

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Awesome he knows the bucs should have Dalvin Cook instead the bucs have ZERO for the guy they took instead of Cook

  13. John Says:

100% true. Vea changed the playoffs that year. He was unstoppable in the nfc championship

  14. Esteban85 Says:

All about the ring baby. Don’t forget bucs fans. Time to pay the piper

  15. Bucamania Says:

I’m more than good with Vea. OJ Howard still haunts the Bucs
