CBS: Rotten NFC South Will Prevent Bucs From Drafting Caleb Williams

February 20th, 2023

Questions.

Well, this is certainly one way to look at things.

Over at CBS, Jeff Kerr typed a story of five teams he expects to drop off a ledge in 2023. One is the Bucs.

Kerr points out there are way too many question marks for the Bucs to expect them to have a winning record in 2023. Besides, he pointed out, the Bucs had a losing record with Tom Brady.

The Bucs very likely could move forward without Jamel Dean, Lavonte David and Brady. How could a team not crumble when it had a losing record with those guys?

Is Todd Bowles the right head coach? … This Buccaneers team as a lot of questions and not a lot of answers at the moment.

Only playing in the NFC South could prevent this team from being one of the worst in the league in 2023.

So it seems a few cheap wins against NFC South opponents will prevent the Bucs from drafting Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, per Kerr’s logic, putting the Bucs in quarterback purgatory, just good enough not to be able to draft a franchise quarterback?

Well, Kerr isn’t the first person to suggest that.

‘prevent the Bucs from drafting Caleb Williams or Drake Maye’

From his mouth to God’s ears….
The chances of them being busts are greater than success AND the Bucs track record with rookie qbs only magnifies their of BUST!

  2. Jack Clark Says:

Nothing makes a team more painful to watch than hiring a defensive minded head coach!

RIP no risk it no biscuit

  3. sasquatch Says:

    Don’t care about Caleb.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

    Collapse4Caleb!

  5. Goatfarmer Says:

    Ahhh, who cares.

If you’re happy and you know it drink a beer. If you’re happy and you know it drink a beer. If you’re happy and you know it then your gut will surely show it, if you’re happy and you know it drink a beer.

Don’t sell the 2023 Bucs short…especially with milk & cookies Boiler Bowles. The Bucs were the worst team in the NFC South towards the end of the season. A lucky win vs The Taints, 3 poorly covered bombs to Mike Evans vs the Panthers and the Falcones knocked them around in the regular season finale ( starters pulled or not ).

Bowles is about to pull a Lovie Dovie 2.oh…3-14 sounds about right. Top dollar players either injured ( Barrett, Lenny ) and/or washed ( D. Smith & Lenny ). It’s an ideal formula for a tear down/rebuild.

  9. Goatfarmer Says:

The team is struggling………..I don’t care about the Jetsch.

  10. SKBucsFan Says:

Who can predict any of these guys will be a franchise QB? Tanking for a number 1 has never worked out well for us or the QB selected before.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

I have faith in Kyle Trask… to get us that #1 pick.

Just don’t screw it up by getting someone like Carr or Tannehill and go 6-11 and screw everything up.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

We need a dude with the Tiquan Underwood haircut.

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

Its a Bucs’ Life. Team goes 5-12 and misses out on the generational QB, the Aints go 3-14 and get that guy via getting swept by Tampa….

  14. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Our franchise has two Lombardi trophies. How many do the “beloved” Aints have?

I love all of oracles and doomsayers this year. Last year the hype after Tom Brady retracted his retirement was nothing but blue skies and sunshine. For some our third Super Bowl was practically a “slam dunk”.

This year I will reserve my judgement at least until I see where we appear to be sometime during training camp.

  15. captivajim Says:

the glazers are the ONLY ones that can change what bowles/licht are doing to the Bucs who will win between 2 and 5 games in ’23….

    thanx BA

  16. BucsfanFred Says:

Instead of a QB, I wonder if we can draft a blind referee instead? They make a bigger difference than QBs do

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting. JBF apparently doesn’t have enough doomsday prognosticators of its own, so now we’re importing Kerr from CBS and Fowler from BSPN? Stick with the JBFers Joe, they’re homegrown. And they all do it for free and most probably even drink Big Storm … that’s a win-win right there.

  18. Rand Says:

Let’s try Trask before quit for Caleb

  19. Brian Says:

    Kendon Hooker!

  20. Henry Says:

Qb’s are overrated. Spend the money in the trenches.

  21. BucBoy Says:

He’s 6’1″. Undersized for NFL. Another “athletic” bust.

  22. Hodad Says:

We didn’t exactly dominate the division last year, why would anyone think we will this year? We’re not going to have the worst record in the league next year. Talking about this Williams kid like we have to go 1-16 to get him is crazy. If we’re that bad next season we’ve got more problems than a rookie QB can solve.

  23. BucBoy Says:

What everyone is missing is that the Bucs won the Super Bowl only 2 years ago. Putting aside the Patriots with Tom Brady, the days of frequent repeat Super Bowl champions – Packers, Dolphins, Cowboys, Steelers, 49ers, etc. – are long gone. The only recent “repeat” winner is Kansas City winning in 2019 and 2022 – 3 years apart. Before KC, the last “repeat” winner was the NY Giants in 2007 and 2011 – 4 years apart.

In other words, it takes building and rebuilding a team to win Super Bowls. It takes time. It don’t come easy. One player alone isn’t going to get it done. In fact, Peyton Manning with the Colts and Aaron Rodgers with the Packers each won only 1 Super Bowl on those teams.

The Bucs have to rebuild the team. Tanking in 2023 to draft a 6’1″ quarterback in 2024 on the prayer he will be a savior is sheer lunacy. Shades of Jameis.

  24. Dom Says:

I don’t agree with this talking point at all. The Panthers will be better and most likely sweep. We barely beat the Falcons. Even the two Saints games were come from behind wins. I can see the Bucs only winning 1 or 2 games in the NFC South this year

  25. Georgej Says:

Bradys losing season was the coaching and his divorce ! Let’s see if the coach can improve over his winning record with the Jets ( JOKE )!

  26. Jmarkbuc Says:

I don’t think Williams is all that.

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

If the bucs tank for Williams I bet any kind of money that the bucs will suck for the next 10 years just like last time they tanked. Tanking is for losers and I wish the NFL would used a lottery for the top 5 teams. What’s the point in bringing a rookie quarterback to a team with no players around him. The 49ers has shown how to build a team and yet y’all only care about who the quarterback is lol 🤣🤣. That’s what you call a loser franchise and fan base. But only on Joe bucfan will you hear tanking!! Lol 🤣🤣

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

The apocalypse is upon us. Oneilbuc and I agree, and I would say, strongly agree.

  29. Goatfarmer Says:

    Except for the y’all stuff.

  30. Ken Kistner Says:

The Bucs need to trade preferably out of the 1st rd. There are enough Very Good players in the 2nd rd. It would help solve the salary cap problems. In the meantime pick up a Veteran QB in FA, Draft a tall QB in the 2nd and add depth to the positions that all the injuries exposed this year.
