“We Juiced Up About It”

January 9th, 2023

Russell Gage

The Bucs were looking for momentum and to “fix some things” before entering the playoffs.

Joe’s not sure those marks were achieved, but it still feels great to be three games from another Super Bowl.

The Bucs singed free agents in the offseason that hoped to ride some Tom Brady magic to the promised land: Akiem Hicks, Julio Jones, Russell Gage, Keanu Neal, Kyle Rudolph and more.

Those guys are probably a little extra excited about getting to the postseason, especially a guy like receiver Gage whose first four seasons were for sub-.500 teams in Atlanta. He was talking after yesterday’s game and said he’s not the only player fired up for a playoff game.

“We juiced up about it,” he said.

Gage went on to say a winning record would have been nice, “but at least we have a next game. … What’s not to be excited about? … I can’t stop smiling now because I’m excited about it.”

Gage finished the season with 51 catches for 426 yards and 5 touchdowns, second-most on the team. He played 13 games and battled injuries all season, so his numbers are decent considering. But they were letdown for a $10 million-per-year signing.

Regardless, Gage said he and Brady are jelling. “We in a good spot at the right time.”

All hands on deck and a creative playcalling should get us to a 2nd game. Use speed guys for speed plays and hands guys to move the chains!!

  2. alton d green Says:

I’m totally baffled. Only 11.32% gave Bowles an “F” for the regular season? WOW,
y’all must have been on the OJ jury

  3. Crickett Baker Says:

How can you give the guy an F when we are in the playoffs?? Wake up!

  4. alton d green Says:

Panhandle; you are right BUT, if a frog had wings, it wouldn’t bump its arse. Yes we can beat the Cowboys. Did you watch the Wash Dallas game? The Cananders safeties and corners were playing too soft and their coach made adjustments and they sent the cowboys packing. They played a fantastic game, (Washington)

  5. Goatfarmer Says:

Todd Blowes will have his team juiced and ready to pack for offseason vacation by midnight a week from now.

  6. Davenport Says:

alton d green: how anyone can rate Bowles above a D is ridiculous. Yes, they made the playoffs but only because the other teams are worse.

Be excited about a playoff game, but don’t give Bowles a pass on the season. He was a disaster

  7. SB~LV Says:

He is either not healthy or that good

  8. NEfan Says:

Cricket because Bucs should have been in playoffs a month ago.

  9. alton d green Says:

Crickett; you’re right. Bowles has done a great job even though ESPN had the Bucs going 17-0. I know in your world that’s awfully close to 8-9. I’ve been a career Brady fan and an NFL fan for 60 years and I can testify he’s the worst coach i’ve ever seen. BAR NONE Joe B. has done a great job and our S., (southern) border is secured. Tom, empty your locker and go to ANY OTHER TEAM

  10. Casual Observer Says:

Our team has been out of sync most of the season. Injuries, poor play calling, and slow adjustments during the game seem to be the main reasons. Most of the injured are healed now. So, despite the coaching, with Brady controlling the offense, they should beat the Cowboys. Then, just maybe, then will get in sync enough to surprise the pundits – and most fans. Go Bucs!

  11. Wokeisdunn Says:

If they are jelling, it is 4th grader school cafeteria half melted, because they have only played two complete games all year…in DAL and in Germany against SEA. They pulled down an 8-9 record by playing for 2 quarters in most of the other games. This is not a playoff team for many reasons. They ARE going to the playoffs because they other three teams in the NFC South are so much worse…and two of them blew the doors off the Bucs in two games this season. Yeah, I’m a Bucs fan…hope they win. But ZERO expectations.

  12. Wokeisdunn Says:

Speaking of the poll, Joe, you failed to include a full range of polling answers on your poll earlier. I chose “F” because I was looking for a “G” and it wasn’t there.

  13. Dave Says:

You know, the last time tampa, jax and miami all made the playoff was in 1999-200 season. 23 years ago.

  14. Bosch Says:

Cricket, the simple reality is the Bucs have no business being in the playoffs just as much as Turd Bowel movement has no business being a head and Blair Eastwhich has no business being an offensive coordinator.

Tampa was easily were easily the most under achieving team in 2022. It truly pains me to say that, but it is reality.

Failed coaching = egregious under achievement.

  16. Bosch Says:

Ira pointed out that the Bucs had the worst point differential in this division. If we drill down further, they have the eighth worst differential in the league. That’s right. Bottom quartile. That is who the Bucs are. And Bowel movement should be retained? Seriously?

  17. Craig Says:

Did I hear someone mention creative play calling? I thought that had already happened, I read it last week. Then I saw the Bucs run up the gut on first down and realized I lived in a bubble of hope, and the Bucs want to pop it.

  18. Beej Says:

How do you go to 12 years of schooling, followed by 4 years of university, and STILL say stuff like ““We Juiced Up About It””

  19. Reach87 Says:

Bosch, you are a moron who has no business talking about football, coaching, the NFL, or anything that requires more than a toddler’s intellect. You keep proving me right. Thanks! Go Bucs!

  20. Pryda...Sec 147 Says:

He has so much room to improve here in the playoffs Lets go Buddy

  21. Steven007 Says:

Bosch, I get the sentiment, but the Bucs absolutely have business being in the playoffs. That’s the rules man. Now I may not like them, and if the NFL eventually changes it, then we’ll see a trickle down effect as to how teams approach the season. But that’s off in the future somewhere. For now we’re in with a good chance to beat the girls on Monday night. Try to be happy about it.

  22. Panhandle Buc Says:

Alton – I did and the Cowboys looked and have looked VERY beatable. I worry about protection as Sam Howell has the wheels to escape pressure and throw on the run, for which Brady doesn’t. I am confident our D will be up to the test, but worry about BL’s terrible playcalling and schemes.

  23. Beej Says:

To be fair, Brady couldn’t do that 20 years ago

  24. Buc1987 Says:

    One & done.

  25. NEfan Says:

GB, Pitts, Cleveland, Baltimore, Cincy, ALL beatable!!!

  26. sasquatch Says:

    Correction: “We ARE juiced…”

  27. Mike C Says:

    Buc1987? The Cowboys or Bucs

  28. William Walls Says:

That certainly explains the Durable Donnie defenders.

  30. Bosch Says:

OK Reach87. You have a right to your opinion and to insult me. I take that to mean you disagree. So back it up. What is your NFL expert opinion on what I got wrong? And while you’re at it, why don’t you tell us all what makes you such an expert. Judging from you post, you must have been an NFL player, coach or front office guy.

Just so you know I am not an NFL expert. Just a fan of the bucs since their inaugural 0-14 season. My opinions are based on my observations of the bucs as a fan. And frankly I am angered with the HC and OC not so much for their ineptness, but for their lack of taking accountability for ANYTHING. Come to think of it. That is not unlike you not backing up your statement.
