“The Screen Sniffer”

January 11th, 2023

Everywhere Sunday night.

Joe gets a little nauseous thinking about how Lavonte David’s Buccaneers career could be in its final minutes.

It’s downright unsettling after 11 seasons of greatness.

David is a free agent after the season and the Bucs have salary cap issues. That could be a bad combination, but that’s unclear.

David, however, doesn’t look like a guy facing retirement — or a significant decline before his 33rd birthday next week. Inside linebackers coach Larry Foote spoke today about how he judges David based on his practice play, and the former linebacker himself sees a guy making his cuts and looking younger than his years.

“I call him The Screen Sniffer,” David said. “Every time they run a screen he finds a way to make the play.”

The Cowboys run what Joe would call an average number of screens. But Dak Prescott can look a little lazy on those short throws. See the little rollout toss Sunday that turned into a Josh Sweat pick-6.

Maybe The Screen Sniffer can do his thing in a big way Monday night and extend his Bucs career by at least a game.

Somehow I just don’t see LVD in another uniform…….It just doesn’t feel right….hopefully he will play another year on a team-friendly contract…..I don’t think he wants to play elsewhere either.

  2. SB Says:

Joe did I read it correctly that when Youtube/Google get the ticket that each team will get and additional 78 Million? Is that not added to the Salary Cap???

  3. MadMax Says:

LD54 has always been a beast for us….but eventually the time comes. I think we have another good two years from him. But LB is a major need when we draft next.

    Im thinking…

    CB 1st
    LT or other Oline 2nd…(Duncan)
    LB 3rd
    WR 4th

  4. alton d green Says:

mybe the Glazers will get lucky and draft a QB 199th in the 6th round. get it?

  5. MadMax Says:

Jaelyn Duncan, LT for maryland…might be able to land him in the 3rd round…but lets get something on the O line to build upon. Smith can help bring him on and the move to LG while Hainsey and Luke gets figured out. Hainsey stays as bu C and Luke bu RT, in my opinion.. Leverette bu LG/LT.

Its not going to be that bad. We’re not in total rebuild. Just need appropriate placement of what we have and a few fixtures here and there for the O line.

  6. MadMax Says:

Had to rethink this since im off work today, broke and late paying bills, and covered by the holes we have, so I’ll do my best of who i think we should draft if their available…..

1st CB Cam Smith – South Carolina

2nd LT Jaelyn Duncan – Maryland

3rd WR Cedric Tillman – Tennessee (might have to trade up for him)

  7. MadMax Says:

    they’re not their…stupid me

  8. sasquatch Says:

They have to find a way to re-sign him. I’d see if they could trade away Devin White and his salary (11 million next year) in order to afford Lavonte.

  9. Sumosam Says:

I would like to see Lavonte retire a Buc. Through thick and thin this guy plays with heart. Keep him around unless the dollars dictate something which is better for him.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Licht and Sapp played for other teams. They are always going to Bucs.

Montana played for KC. He’s a 49er. TB12 plays for the Bucs. He’s a Patriot.

It happens. It’s reality. It’s fine.

    The Bucs need to rebuild.

  11. D-Rok Says:

Yes, SB, and Joe reported on this weeks ago. The YouTube deal raises the salary cap next year, which is important for resigning players we don’t think we can based on salary numbers.

It might mean we can retain some good players, and sign other FA’s. Gives us room, which gives hope for 23 season.

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

We need to keep LVD. Period. Remember what happened in 2009? No Brooks was not his best by any means but he would have made sure every player in the front 7 knew what to do. Think Diva can do that? LOL, he doesn’t even know his own assignments and then freelances anyway.

    LVD>>>>>>>>Diva Whet

  13. SOEbuc Says:

Mine and a very large amount of fellow Bucs fan’s favorite Buc all time. He had an amazing season. He has done so much for the Bucs and community. Can’t not retire a Buc. Gonna be rockin my championship white number 54 Monday night.

  14. Beeej Says:

SPEAKING of screen sniffers, just read Jordan Whitehead and his $7.5 million may be a cap casualty with the Jets, Would love to have that guy back

  15. Goatfarmer Says:

Let’s secure LVD. And I agree, if someone were willing to trade us some good capital for Diva Whet, I’d consider that if I were Licht. Think the Kwon Alexander situation only a lot more expensive. That’s coming. Diva’s best film is already out there . He’s regressing, ever since the SB run. We’ve already gotten the best he’ll ever give.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Devin White is regressing with 124 tackles and 5.5 sacks????? Have to be a huge deal.
