Report: Bucs Believe They’re In The Running For Tom Brady

January 24th, 2023

“You SOB, don’t you f@cking ever ask me that again or this will be your last f@cking broadcasting gig.”

Joe isn’t sure how many folks were listening to Tom Brady’s saccharine, awful podcast on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio last night. But man did he snap.

Jim Gray, the paid mouthpiece host of the show, actually scraped off his Burt’s Bees lip balm to ask Brady a relevant question that wasn’t a slurping or drooling.

Gray actually had to nerve to ask Brady what every football fan in America is wondering. Has Brady made a decision on where he wants to play or will play in 2023, provided he plays at all?

(Joe has been harsh on Gray in the past and Joe believes it is warranted. But in this case, props to Gray for asking the elephant-in-the-room question.)

Brady did not react well. At. All.

“If I knew what I was going to f@cking do, I would’ve already f@cking done it,” Brady said. “I’m taking it a day at a time. I appreciate you asking. Thank you.”

Having fun with this podcast, Tom?

To be fair, even given Brady’s chippy answer, this is a pre-recorded show (hence the bleeping out of naughty words). Given how calculated Brady is, it sure seems Brady knew the question was coming and had a stock answer. You know, scripted? Wonder if he learned that little piece of acting from Hanoi Jane?

So who f@cking knows when Brady will make a f@cking decision whether to play f@cking football or not? The Bucs seem to have an idea they are still in play.

Jeremy Fowler of BSPN, speaking on SchockCenter on Sunday morning, apparently got word from the Bucs they believe they are very much in the thick of things to re-sign Brady.

Rob Goldberg of Bleacher Report documented Fowler’s info.

“The Bucs believe that they’re still in it. They’re going to try. They believe, ‘Hey, for the last three years we’ve created an environment for you to be successful.’ New offensive coordinator coming in, maybe that will sell him a little bit. But you heard him in his words the other night, it sounded like he was saying farewell in his press conference. So, we’ll see where that goes. First, he has to decide if he wants to play; that should come in the next week, weeks or months.”

Next week or months, eh? Nothing like narrowing it down. Perhaps by the Fourth of July?

Joe guesses that if Brady doesn’t want to return to the Bucs, the team will know by the time the free agency dinner bell rings on March 15 (hard to believe it’s less than two months away).

By that time, the team should have all its ducks in a row to implement its 2023 strategy.

With or without Brady.

Good lord. This speculation is stupid at this point. I’ve heard both sides now. First Bucs officials think they don’t have a shot, now they do according to this report. I’m indifferent at this point I guess. Just field a good team, actually have the team TRY to win. That MIC’D up in SF segment with Brady was sad. No one gave a darn and it seemed like Brady was not trying as hard to motivate, or half hearted. Just have a plan and go for it.

  2. adam from ny Says:

if brady leaves the bucs and is deciding to go to the saints (somehow) or the panthers………….

being that he is super competitive, he will hold the bucs hostage until the very last minute before free agency begins…like last year…

    why you ask?….

because that way he gives himself an advantage to win the division with his new nfc south team…

meanwhile the bucs sit around waiting on him while twiddling their thumbs, while all other teams are making moves and getting their ducks in a row, and preparing…

so if he signs in division, the bucs become the competition, and he will leave us dangling in the wind as long as he can…

    just a thought

  3. Todd Says:

Give me Monkman/Stetson and let’s Brock Purdy everyone’s a$$ next year!

  4. Conte Piscatelli Says:

So I keep hearing about this “offensive coordinator” that’s going to lure Brady back. First off a god OC isn’t coming here with a question about who the QB is going to be. No great OC wants to attach their resume to Trask. So I think they need Brady to get an OC, not the other way around. Secondly, Lefty was a dead man walking for weeks, shouldn’t they have already known who they wanted to hire by the time they fired him.

  5. HC Grover Says:

    Phooey!

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Stocked with a plethora of super-stars in 2020, we won it all. It cost us long-term, but it was worth it. We even came close in 2021 (oh if only this were horseshoes or hand grenades). But we got unmasked in 2022 without some of those key super-stars … even with Tom Brady.

Time for the Bucs to move on from Tom … and time for Tom to move on from us. Time to pay up and start building a competitive team for the future.

  7. Beej Says:

Bucs have zero. Zero chance of going to the super bowl, with our without Brady. The only motivation for signing him is to improve the cap situation

  8. CJ Says:

After the bye week, Lavonte David gives an interview:

Question: What adjustments did you make during the bye week?

His Answer: Well, we basically concentrated on being on time.

    WTH?
Read the rumors about lack of discipline and Brady’s frustration….
Defensive side of the ball was bad. Not going to get much better next year.
    Just imo.

  9. Lt. Dan Says:

Raiders too? Dolphins too? 49’ers too? Sounds like he’s playing.

  10. Oddball Says:

    Nope

  11. SB~LV Says:

    Careful what you wish for

  12. beano Says:

Who gives a chit? 8-10. No way Brady returns for another NFC South Championship tee shirt.

  13. Allbuccedup Says:

Great that means our idiots in the front office will wait until Brady makes his decision before they hire an offensive coordinator.

  14. YucsBall Says:

Hanoi Jane …. just another commie

  15. NEfan Says:

Well Bill O’brien gone, snooze you lose.

  16. Jimbo B Says:

Luckily Brady will be in prison for Crypto fraud so he won’t be able to play for the bucs. A win-win if I’ve ever seen one.

  17. Wut The Buc Says:

That video of the Bucs in SF was a horrible look for this team, no way Brady comes back to a team that does not want to play at a high lvl.

  18. Jvato24 Says:

I don’t really want grumpy old man Brady on this team, grumpy Brady just isn’t the same, Fun Brady wins alot more games. So if we wait for this guy, we pass on Derek Carr which is a decent 3 year solution for reportedly a 2nd round pick

  19. Davenport Says:

Bucs should make the decision for him — NO
Let’s move on without the distractions

  20. Jvato24 Says:

Brady is most likely answering this way for a specific reason, he played so bad in last game, teams are now pausing wondering if Brady at 46 has hit his wall, and he’s not getting any feelers with certainty that teams want him, 49ers have a decent young QB now, you think they will just replace him, they passed on 43 year old Brady! Some think the dolphins want him, healthy TUA was decent last year, I think it may be Bucs or Raiders for old man Brady and that may piss him off.

  21. NEfan Says:

Ya know what cracks me up on this site? All the fans saying good riddens to Brady, he sucks anyway, he’s old, traitor because he isn’t sure he wants to come back…. when in reality he was forced to.play in 2022 or don’t play at all, so he did. After extending his contract to help the team.

Yet the same cast of characters praise the real culprit that held Brady and the Bucs hostage. What was so honorable in BA’s departure? BA with NO remorse up and QUIT (thank God he left his.shirt on!) and left the Bucs with NO choice but to be stuck with his bucket of shat. BA is the instigator of this teams demise. BA is the elephant in the room. I don’t think what he did to satisfy is own agenda very honorable at all.

  22. Bucs56 Says:

Obrien to patriots. Watch kraft try to right a wrong. Brady returns to patriots for goodbye tour

  23. Kentucky Buc Says:

Do you know what a podcast is? Do you hear anyone asking Richard Sherman if he hit his wife on his podcast. Do the Kelce brothers ask each other why Patrick Mahomes’ brother is a douchebag? Does anyone ask Edleman why he took steroids to recover from a knee injury on his podcast? It’s his podcast.

  24. Pewter Power Says:

Whether with Brady or a young quarterback, shore up your line especially if one of the top left tackles are available in the draft. Both quarterback’s will need protection. Best thing we can do to thank Brady is getting him a superbowl ring as a retirement gift

  25. Knucknbuc Says:

It’s cool tom we got all off-season bud. Not like we have to make any plans or anything championship roster here so we’re setup.

  26. SKBucsFan Says:

Let’s make this simple for all on here. If he decides to keep playing TB12 will go to the most Suoerbowl ready team that just needs a QB. Similar to what he did for the Bucs. He will have a lot of say in the coaching and personnel. As he did for the 2020 and 2021 Bucs. He didn’t know Bowles would screw things up so badly last year…or at least didn’t want to believe it woukd happen even though past history dictated it is likely to happen.

The only fit is the 49ers. Brock Purdy will not be the answer.

  27. BuckyPhillips Says:

Davenport – I agree. Let’s move on. Unlike the patriots we have a Super Bowl without Brady. It was fun while it lasted but he came back for one year too many

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“I came out of retirement for the Bucs and all I got is a stupid divorce.”

  29. NEfan Says:

Davenport, Bucky, how was the Bucs running game this season? And Bucs coaching staff? He will make you pay for your lack if loyalty.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Keep in mind…only days after he came back, Arians surprised him by retiring himself.

That could not have sat well.

  31. NEfan Says:

Good point Bucaneer, now Tommy not only do you have to play for us, it has to be under a defensive minded 2 time loser Bowles.

  32. Alanbucsfan Says:

Brady will wait until after Super Bowl to make a decision.
BA probably retired because of jab related heart issues.

  33. NEfan Says:

Alan@ I’ll bet Andy Reid makes BA look like Rocky, and he didn’t QUIT on his team.

  34. Infomeplease Says:

What ever TB12 decides… the Bucs would be a good team with him and a healty/better o line!!! IMO!!

  35. Bucamania Says:

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

  36. Mark2001 Says:

Sure we are in. And maybe if we would give Lovie a call, he would leave the couch, become our OC, and his Offense will lead us to the next SB championship. I mean, as long as we are dreaming….

  37. The Anomaly Says:

    COME ON MANNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!
