“I Think Dallas Is A Much Better Team”

January 13th, 2023

“I love you, Tommy.”

One of Tom Brady’s dear friends sort of summed up the feelings of many NFL observers.

Barking and grunting this morning on SiriusXM NFL Radio was highly successful NFL playcaller Charlie Weis. (Yes, Joe realizes that description makes most Gators fans cringe.) Weis was offensive coordinator in New England during Brady’s formative years, and then he led offenses that turned Vinny Testaverde (Jets) and Matt Cassel (Chiefs) into Pro Bowl quarterbacks. Weis is no Byron Leftwich.

Those who listen to Weis routinely know he thinks Brady was and is the greatest football being ever created and he can do no wrong, and neither can Bill Belicheat. But outside of them, Weis is quite objective and never seems afraid to call it as he sees it.

So here’s how Weis summed up the Bucs’ chances on Monday night against Dallas:

“I think Dallas is a much better team. … They are one of the teams that is set up to make a run to win it all here.” Weis said. “I think Tampa looks kind of old to me. And I’ll take Tampa.” (No typo there).

Weis was candid that Brady is why he’s picking Tampa, in addition to a Bucs defense solid enough to take advantage of the Cowboys’ mistake.

“I don’t like anything about the Bucs right now other than that Tommy’s at quarterback,” Weis continued. “They look old to me, but the defense is still pretty good and Dallas has turned the ball over a bunch of times.”

Ironically, Weis says Brady is why the Bucs will win but he predicts a very low scoring game. Confusing stuff. But that’s what happens when man love clouds one’s thinking, Joe supposes.

Joe has maintained that the Bucs defense is good enough to put the team on its back and nearly win a game on its own. That’s probably what has to happen Monday for the Bucs to advance.

    We can do it!!
Concerned about Mike Evans illness. Seemed like a long one. Did he have the Rona?

  2. Tye Says:

The ONLY upside that can come out of the Bucs losing this game is IF they blow up this mundane putrid coaching staff….

I highly doubt most at Bucs HC would do much worse than Bowles with Bdrady at qb…

If without Brady next season, this team has little to no hope with this coaching staff screwing it up!

  3. Jack Clark Says:

I wanted to feel confident about the Bucs beating the Cowboys, so I visited the Cowboys blog to read all their pessimistic post about how they are doomed against playing the Bucs.

  4. ATLBuc Says:

I think the Bucs will win comfortably. Dak is wound up as tight as a spring and Bowles will make sure he stays that way.

  5. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

If I were the Bucs & they lose Brady next year, I would definitely go after Carr. Hey Charlie would you like to be Brady’s OC if he does come back?

  6. Redeemer Says:

Dallas is the better team. Look at their records. Like Charlie, I’m picking Tampa, for a couple reasons. Dallas is bad on grass. 1-4 in their last 5. Their run defense is bad, giving up 130 ypg. I think the bucs can run enough to take some pressure off Brady. It’s harder to generate a pass rush on grass and on the road. Brady has never lost to the cowboys. He’s familiar with Dan Quinn and what he likes to do. I think Tampa tries to keep the tempo up and wear out that D. It’ll be close, but in the end, we win. Go Bucs!!!!!!!

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I don’t believe this game will be an easy win.

Dallas is clearly the more talented team….for sure.

Lets just hope Dak throws interceptions and our D-Line creates Havoc.

  8. NEfan Says:

Redeemer, Quinn knows Brady as well. This predictable offense is what scares me, Quinn is one of the best DC’s in the league. Don’t forget he held the O to 4 field goals and 1 TD. The reason they look old is because they run a old style offense.

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Derek Carr would be my first choice as a Franchise QB

  10. MadMax Says:

We’ve been baiting the whole season….we got this! Just watch 🙂

  11. SB~LV Says:

I don’t really know if Dallas is a better team
I do KNOW that the Buc are NOT a good team
    I ain’t gonna fool myself
    I hope they win
But their ain’t no hope in football
Football is imposing your will on the other team and scoring more points
I have not seen much of either from the Bucs this year

  12. Redeemer Says:

NE, I get it. Hopefully they run a lot of hurry up and the predictable offense doesn’t show up.

  13. brooks Says:

Well said Charlie except Dallas will win. They will go to Philly and their season will end. Better them than us. Fitting Bradys last game as a Buc is Monday. Its reality tired of hearing all the story lines.

  14. sasquatch Says:

Dallas is clearly a better team based on this year’s performances. The Bucs might win, but only because of Brady.

  15. TheBucsAnthem Says:

on paper and talent wise…..Dallas is the far superior team…..it’s not even close

BUT……we need the Cowboys and Dak to put up another stinker of a game like they did against Washington.

But hats off the Washington’s secondary…..cause they played lights out in the secondary.

  16. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I wonder how healthy the Bucs secondary will be

I know CDIII won’t be at 100% nor will Winfield Jr.

Is Jamel Dean playing??? How healthy is SMB?????

Everyone seems hurt…..including slow ploding Playoff Lenny

  17. Iron-Wombat Says:

It’s still Dak and the cowboys in the playoffs so expect the choke on one hand, and on the other hand he’s still Tom Brady. Bucs win (and win ugly).

  18. NEfan Says:

The NFL always blows smoke up Jerry Jones arse. McCarthy is bottom tier coach, one step above Bowels. 21-14 Bucs.

  19. Jack Clark Says:

Bill Belichick has done such a horrible coaching job that even New England Patriots fans rather be on this website

  20. NEfan Says:

Jack, yes Belichick stuck his nose in the offense like Bowles did and the results are pretty much the same only Bowles did it with far better talent.

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Dallas might be a better team overall, but we are at home here in Tampa, and have beat them once this year already.
Plus, Tom Brady has never ever lost to the Cowboys in his entire career.

  22. NEfan Says:

Chris, Brady was 11-0 against Atlanta, how did that workout. My

So Bill Belichick can coach up everyone except the offensive coordinator? LOL, that’s why he’s overrated 😉

  24. Allbuccedup Says:

If the Bucs lose to Dallas it will be on Bowles. The defense will show up Dak is not that good. Its going to be on the offense they need to open it up as they did against Carolina. If they play dink and dunk they are going to get beat.

  25. NEfan Says:

Jack, not sure what your getting at. Are you saying Bowles is as good as Belichick? Belichick took a rookie QB to the playoffs. Bowles barely snuck in with Brady.

  26. AmauryGuzman Says:

Cowboys are overrated . Every year people talk about their so called talent. If Brady gets time to throw on monday they win this game.

  27. AmauryGuzman Says:

I have always said that dallas’s so called talent is overrated.

You do know a great defense can take any mediocre quarterback to the playoffs right?

  29. Darin Says:

Lol. All this picking the Bucs is quite optimistic. Lefty will bring you down again soon. Black Monday for him hopefully!

  30. Doc Says:

Buc fans are already booking flights to the home of the eagles, good luck.

  31. Jerry Says:

Weis is right. Dallas makes a lot of mistakes. If they play a clean game, they can be tough, sure. But they tend to get into these funks where they start turning the ball over or they get undisciplined and pull a dozen flags. And they’ve been in a turnover funk for the last month or so. The Bucs defense WILL have opportunities and need to take advantage of them. And that might be the difference in this game.

  32. Buccos Says:

    Defense wins Championships. Bucs 21-14

  33. adam from ny Says:

this d is gonna have to rise up from the bowles ashes…and be even better to make this playoff run meaningful…

    it can be done
