“I Don’t Believe In This Football Team”

January 3rd, 2023

Non-believer.

Joe Twittered on Sunday how many quarterbacks would kill to have the clean pockets to throw in like Tom Brady had against the Stinking Panthers.

Some Bucs fans went mental.

Even though Joe attached a photo of Brady throwing from a clean pocket, so many fans killed Joe claiming Joe is a flat-out liar or a heretic.

It’s almost like some Bucs fans want the Bucs’ front line to be bad. Why do folks have this impression the offensive line is like the Bucs’ line of 2014 (which was truly horrible)? Don’t these folks watch NFL games with rotten lines?

Then Joe watched a video from BSPN’s Dan Orlovsky yesterday. Ah, ha! Now Joe gets where these folks are getting their talking points.

Orlovsky, a former Bucs backup quarterback, took to the BSPN airwaves and hollered how he has zero faith in the Bucs in the postseason, railing about how rotten of a team they are.

Some points were very valid, others Joe questioned. One was totally overblown.

Orlovsky acts like Brady has a defensive lineman in his face on each and every snap. C’mon man.

Orlovsky thinks the Bucs are a paper tiger. He dismissed Mike Evans’ big day on Sunday claiming the Bucs only took advantage of a rotten defense. So now that’s a bad thing?

And Orlovsky is no fan of failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Orlovsky thinks Leftwich is awful. No argument from Joe there.

Orlovsky went on and on about how Leftwich won’t run play-actions, which do work and Brady thrives on them. He’s right, but did he watch Sunday’s game? Brady and the Bucs ran quite a bit of play-action.

(Joe hopes someone woke up (coughLeftwichcough) that you don’t need a running attack to use play-actions effectively.)

Orlovsky’s criticism of the general playcalling of the Bucs is right on. The rest of it, debatable if not laughable.

You can watch the video here.

The Bucs have not been a good team this year. They almost blew their very last clean chance to make the playoffs. It took the GOAT and the D making a couple big plays to help them come from 2 scores down and win. There have been 3 such comebacks this year I can think of…and coming back is something good teams do. However, they did not come back against good teams–they got behind with terrible teams. Several times. Often they did NOT come back.

Do I have hope? Yup. Of course, I’m a Bucs fan. Do I have faith they will make a deep run. Oh, he11 no. Can anything happen? Not really.

  2. Darin Says:

I don’t either. Still took the punter to make an extraordinary play to bail em out. They’ll get out coached soon. And that’ll be it

  3. Marvin Says:

One and done. No doubt about that.

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

I have more faith in Tom Brady than a guy whose “claim to fame” is not knowing where the back of the end zone is.

The Bucs might be able to win a playoff game.

  5. 941bucsfan Says:

Hey Joe, fans want to make excuses and say the oline is bad, because they wanna have more excuses when tom brady doesn’t let plays develop down the field and plays checkdown charlie…. “Simple as that”

  6. Joshua porter Says:

Well if anyone knows about being a paper tiger it’s good Ole step out the back of the end zone Danny boy. Dan is a clown that says sh!$ for clicks.

  7. SufferingSince76 Says:

So, 941, you know better than Tom Brady? Uh huh.

  8. NEfan Says:

941, the haters are out early. #2 passing leader in the league and blowing away the NFC in passing. Go take your meds your anger management coach would be disappointed.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Bucs oline pass protects OK……run blocking is miserable…..or if there is a category less than miserable…..that’s it.

  10. Cobraboy Says:

One great quarter does NOT mean the Bucs O has turned the corner.

I, too, am skeptical…but eternally hopeful.

Still waiting for a 4-quarter solid game not in Germany.

  11. Demetrios Says:

All you have to do is see how well the offense performs on 3rd and short. They cannot convert and as this continues, they cannot be successful no matter who the QB is.

  12. teacherman777 Says:

    I hate running QB sneaks.

    Brady is 45!

However, we have no other choice.

Keep sneaking until the Super Bowl!

  13. Kentucky Buc Says:

Never cared for slobber boy. Ryan Clark is quickly moving to the top of the sh** list also. These guys start off good but after a couple years they just suck. Lou Riddick is one of the few who doesn’t seem to have an agenda.

  14. SB~LV Says:

    Sadly he is correct!
+3 in turnover’s and 3 TD’s to ME , while nice are not to be counted.
Kinda like taking out the high score and low score before determining the trend

  15. Wayne Perez Says:

He was a terrible quarterback and a terrible analyst!!

  16. Goatfarmer Says:

The problem with this offensive line is, when the Bucs run the ball, the linemen block like it’s a pass.

  17. Curse of Gruden Says:

Orlovsky was QB1 for the 2008 Detroit Lions that went 0-16. Enough said.

  18. Bucobill999 Says:

Says the guy that never won anything and I believe was on a 0-16 team so o take nothing he says serious kinda like career loser beckles

  19. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I think the offensive line has played generally well all season on pass blocking and they played exceptionally well against the Panthers. Still, the run blocking is my biggest concern. Late in the game we ran the ball three times to force the Panthers to burn their time outs. The drama that followed could have been averted had the Bucs gotten a first down, but instead our running backs picked up only a few yards. As Joe stated, we don’t need a good run game for play action to be effective, but we damn sure need one for holding a lead. I’ve seen teams time after time lose a game after having a lead with less than one minute on the clock. That almost happened against the Panthers. Rather than buying a lotto ticket, I am going to hope Ryan Jensen can play in our playoff game and provide the missing spark in the run game. That’s my hope.

  20. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Why anyone watches BSPN is beyond me. If I have to watch a game on there, I turn the channel the second the game is over because I have zero interest in what SVP or anyone else on that garbage channel has to say. Their programming is all a bunch of sensationalist nonsense. NFL Network is much more informative, they actually talk football and they aren’t trying to be the moral police of sports.

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I sure do not think we make the Super Bowl, but we can get a couple playoff game IMHO.
Especially if we get the Cowboys instead of the Eagles.
The Eagles WITH Jalen Hurts are one of the very best teams in Football.
We beat the Cowboys once this year, and maybe we can do it again ?
I sure hope so, because I would love to see the look on Jerry Jones face if we eliminate them!

  22. Kentucky Buc Says:

You mean Damm Orlovsky. That’s what was heard during most of his playing career.

  23. Lamarcus Says:

Well …. You literally in Cognitive Dissonance mode. Only agreeing with the points you agree with

  24. Bucsfan13 Says:

Joe this offensive line has been average to below average all year. Anyone who actually studies the film can attest to that. Say what you want about Dan, but he is a film junkie. He’s speaking from a point of credibility. I’ve read not one analyst who thinks this Bucs’ offensive line has been playing well enough to protect the QB. Goedeke was so awful that we now think Leverette is John Hannah. How can anyone say this OL is capable when we currently have the worse rushing game historically in the NFL!

  25. JimmyfromNY Says:

Same morons picked the Chargers to beat the patriots in the first round of the 2018 playoffs. They also said the same thing about the Bucs going into the playoffs in 2020 that they weren’t for real. Anyone doubting Brady in the playoffs hasn’t been watching or it’s just a troll. Either way he’s beating the Cowboys at a minimum

  26. SlyPirate Says:

    HUGE EXCEPTION

I don’t like the Bucs in the post-season, either … BUT have you looked at the NFC?

    1. Do you like the Eagles, Cowboys, Vikings, or Giants more? No way.
    2. SFO: Rookie QBs never win in the playoffs.
    3. GB: Always blows it.

  27. Joe Says:

Joe this offensive line has been average to below average all year.

Joe is convinced that folks decided from July that because Jensen went down unless the Bucs replaced him with a name they recognized (“I don’t know if the guy is worth a sh!t but I heard his name before so I know he’s better than Robert Hainsey!”) the Bucs were going to be horrible and nothing was going to change their minds. So they stuck with “the Bucs offensive line is the worst” lazy narrative and refused to listen or watch unless someone reinforced these prefabricated beliefs.

Folks that think the Bucs offensive line is so bad either didn’t watch the Bucs play a few years ago and/or never watch other NFL games. Bucs front line is at worst serviceable. Joe has seen teams make the Super Bowl with lesser lines. Did anyone witness Cincinnati play last year? Yet they made it to the Super Bowl.

  28. sasquatch Says:

He’s not wrong. This team sucks. Beating CAR doesn’t change that. Wait until they face a real team. They’re done.

  29. Brandon Says:

The offensive line is fine… and other than when Goedeke was on the field, they’ve been fine all season. This biggest issue has been playcalling. Predesigned pass plays that are all, one step and throw is not a way to get secondaries to loosen up. A huge majority of the throws this year have been five yards or less from the line of scrimmage. Teams are now bunching and being super aggressive on short routes. The only way to get them to stop, throw deep. Teams are also playing lots of two high safety because we can’t run. So they’re playing aggressive short and usually have two safeties guarding deep… we can’t run the ball effectively enough to get the safeties closer to the line of scrimmage. Again, the solution is to take your chances in the intermediate and deep zones. Two guys can’t cover 53 yards across 10 yards back and deeper. You have to be aggressive so the short passing game will work and DBs don’t jump routes like they have been doing all season.

  30. Ed Says:

The Bucs offensive line isn’t that bad at pass blocking but they are very weak blocking for the backs. Hainsey has improved at run blocking as he moved his man enough for Brady to make his sneaks. He also threw a nice block on Fournette’s near touchdown run.

I think after this last game the Bucs have to abandon the run on first down and spread things out. As long as they can give Brady 3-3.5 seconds when Godwin, Gage, Evans and Otton are on the field someone will get open.

  31. Mike Says:

Bucs are still a work in progress, but the needle is pointing up. Let’s go Bucs!

  32. sasquatch Says:

The O-line is okay at pass blocking, but the run blocking… Ugh. I don’t think the running game is the fault of the running backs. That’s either poorly designed blocking schemes, poor playcalling that makes our runs far too predictable, or poor blocking… and probably a combination.

  33. Capt.Tim Says:

Posters who complain constantly about the OL, aren’t knowledgeable when it comes to football. Clueless. But they know that you have to be knowledgeable to call them out, so they can complain constantly, without their stupidity being obvious.
That said, the linemen played well, but suffered as a unit.
I said they would. Said the team would be either 8-9, or 9-8.
    Prophet.

Now, the line has started to really jell.
And I think Brady will be outstanding in the Playoffs.
While I knew they would struggle all season, things have swung our way now.
    Bucs win round 1

  34. matthew a veal Says:

they are in. i didn’t think they would be after the preseason. so bowles gets the credit. and leftwich, although frustrating, has to be respected for getting the result needed.

in Licht we trust is a winning strategy.

as far as the playoffs, defense wins championships, particularly if you have a decent qb, which we do! i like us to win a couple, maybe more.

If joe disagrees, well he’s probably right.

  35. C2asante Says:

    Bingo!

Hey Joe, fans want to make excuses and say the oline is bad, because they wanna have more excuses when tom brady doesn’t let plays develop down the field and plays checkdown charlie…. “Simple as that”

  36. Infomeplease Says:

Let’s face it. Coaching cost this team at least 3 W s this season!! Are they changing their game plans? Injuries perhaps another 1 or 2 or were those on the bad coaching too? I don’t know!! The team is getting healthier!!! Will the coaching improve ???

IMO, The talent is in place!!! Can the coaches do their jobs better??? Use what works, discard what doesn’t. Better coaching from here on CAN PRODUCE GREAT THINGS!! Will this happen?? Does this team need to be losing by 14 points before they use more no huddle O (for instance)?? Can the coaches use more of the things that work like play action, heavy formations, ans qb sneaksI don’t know!!!

  37. Tucker Says:

Fans are not the only ones saying it former coaches who are now talking heads are saying it former players even ones that have played oline in the NFL are saying it they know more than all of us here so if everyone around you is saying the same thing who is the crazy one?

  38. Canabuc Says:

I disagree with Joe I would say that the Buccaneers offensive line has been terrible.
The thing is that line poor play is masked by the goat. He avoids because he gets the ball out very early. His time to throw is among the shortest in the nfl. This is one of the reasons why the offensive lines that have played for Tom Brady throughout his career I’ve always looked very good and why those same players when traded to other teams were mediocre at best. He elevates their play because they don’t have to pass block for as long..

However, despite this he hasn’t had enough time to throw to set up the deep plays that were always so successful in the past prior to this most recent game. Hopefully with Ryan Jensen coming back and perhaps playing at an easier position like guard while he gets himself back into better shape our offensive line might be a better more cohesive unit which would be the perfect timing for a playoff run.

  39. Buc king Says:

I notice Jensen moving nicely on the side line and I notice on a lot plays they used white essentially as a down lineman as I been calling them to do but I prefer they have him attack the edge where Shaq was at and send Winfield on corner blitz n David on gap a blitzing

  40. Sucatkane Says:

Joe your followers are the same toxic crap also who cares about the regular season we are in the playoffs with allot of teams thinking the same way about us as that loser thinks well if it was my team I would not want to play the bucs as they haven’t played to thier potential and playoffs makes players better we have tb12 and Evans we also could finally have a oline and we literally have given the rest of the NFL film on us as losers who can’t go I say we win out go bucs
