Bucs To Interview Giants Quarterbacks Coach Shea Tierney

January 27th, 2023

Giants QB coach Shea Tierney.

If you think Giants head coach Brian Daboll is a good coach and Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is a good at his job, then this next Bucs move should really grab your attention.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Bucs plan to interview Shea Tierney for the opening at offensive coordinator. He’s the Giants’ quarterbacks coach.

Now on the slim chance that the Bucs would have moved on from Bucs coach Todd Bowles — possibly irresponsible given that he won a division his first season with the Bucs — Joe had his eye on Kafka, the former Bucs backup quarterback.

Given Kafka’s ties to Andy Reid and how Kafka rescued the careers of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, that tells Joe that Giants coaches know what the hell they are doing.

(If you want to argue that even a corpse was an upgrade over Joe Judge, alright, fair point.)

Well, Tierney is part of that group. And Tierney’s football résumé is impressive. He also worked alongside Daboll in Buffalo since 2018. That just happened to coincide with the rise of Josh Allen.

Before that, Tierney was on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama.

Joe thinks it is safe to suggest Tierney might know a little about football.

This would be a helluva hire just based on Tierney’s résumé, and if Tierney learned a lot from Daboll and Kafka.

I would be ok with this

  2. #99 the Big fella Says:

    Hire him now!

  3. HC Grover Says:

    Poor fellow. Trask and Gabbert.

  4. Breadwinnerbob Says:

He’s the best we’ve interviewed yet his body of work is solid

  5. adambomb418 Says:

    Maybe he can fix Gabbert??

  6. sasquatch Says:

I like the sound of it.

  7. zzbuc Says:

    A big gamble…..I would take that risk….

  8. Goatfarmer Says:

Ok I was about to complain.

    Not now.

  9. mark2001 Says:

Pretty much a rebuild…but for the HC. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind hiring the guy, if he was a part of a bigger rebuild. As it is, if the guy takes the job, he is a gambler, hoping Bowles can show us something he didn’t last year. But sometimes gamblers beat the odds.

  10. D-Rok Says:

Sounds like he has a good pedigree.

  11. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

So far I like Tierney & Kubiak.

  12. SB~LV Says:

Yeah… but can he work for Bowles ?

  13. EEK Says:

    Upgrade of course

  14. Iamabuc Says:

I’m not too optimistic about next year. It doesn’t matter who they hire. Bowles will find a way to screw it all up.

  15. RickyBobby10 Says:

YEAH. I am totally fine with this as well. Finally some GOOD news.

    The setup for #Collaspe4Caleb continues.

My prediction: Tierney is hired, Bowles is fired early next season, he becomes interim HC, later HC and grooms Caleb into the next big star.

2 years from now, Bucs are back in the SB!

  16. Todd Says:

He doesn’t wear a stupid flat brim hat that makes him look stupidly stupid like ALL flat brim hat wearers look, so WHAT AN ADVANTAGE!

Note to anyone out there wearing flat brim hats…they make you look STUPID!

    PSA

    You’re welcome.

  17. Goatfarmer Says:

Does he have to talk to Toad? He gets one listen to the demoralizing talks-through-his-teeth imposter and he’ll be back to Big Blue quicker than a neutrino at CERN.

  18. BucsFan81 Says:

As long as he doesn’t want to run the ball up the middle on first down to start every game we are good lol

  19. Kgh4life Says:

Worked alongside some really good coaches. Hopefully, he learned a lot from them.

  20. BucNut4ever Says:

But how good is he at fantasy football????

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Anyone miss Byron yet?

  22. Goatfarmer Says:

I miss By’Mron. Now Toad is Head Imbecile.

  23. Curse of Gruden Says:

    I don’t be missin’ Bryon.

  24. Marine Buc Says:

    Oh thank goodness…

Until I say the picture I thought this was going to be another female affirmative action hire.

Let’s hope the Bucs get back to respectability with coaching hires – now that BA is gone…

    Get real people.

  25. D-Rok Says:

Clyde Christensen revealed why Brady missed 11 days of camp. Not a planned nor pre-approved absence, apparently. Can’t wait for Joe’s to reveal this…

  26. Richard Says:

Again, we must keep in mind that we will have to gamble and settle for the coach to fill this position. Why? Because the owners and the GM have no balls to make the decision that should have been made….send Bowles packing!!!! Whether it is a politically correct decision, a kiss BA ass decision or plain apathetic decision it is the wrong decision for the entire organization. The fans should be in an uproar…maybe that would get their attention although highly unlikely….

  27. Rayjay1122 Says:

At least his name is not Cooter…

  28. SB~LV Says:

In one of the few times here on JBF I have no opinion on the guy. 😉

  29. Bucs56 Says:

The silence in the interview room after each candidate asks….so what happens if Bowles is fired next year?

  30. MarkV Says:

    Agreed Richard

  31. SB~LV Says:

    Ufunny 56 !

  32. Buccaneric Says:

    Just quit the #collapseforcaleb nonsense.

I don’t care how bad you think Bowles is, he’s not going to lose enough games to pick first overall. (And he didn’t win my confidence this year, but I don’t think his defense will quit.)

  33. ClwJB Says:

The parade of position coaches just screams that no real candidates want anything to do with this job

    1) Bowles fires all his OC after no more than 2 years
    2) His 70’s philosophy and atrocious in game decisions are common knowledge that handicaps anyone trying to call plays

BTW, why is Keith Armstrong employed in the NFL?

And if we pick one of the kids, who are they going to get at the other 6 open spots?
Probably the coffee fetchers, film breakdown kids, and unpaid assistants they have been spending their time with.

How do first time coordinators fill out an entire staff with experienced coaches with Bowles history with assistants?

This is not going to end well….

  34. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs interviewed the Bengals QB Coach Dan Pitcher too. I’d take him or Tierney as the two front runners for the position with McCardell as my third choice.

  35. Richard Says:

Exactly ClwJB…..it’s beyond belief that management has let the organization down this path….disgraceful!!!!

  36. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, The Rednecks at the local sports Bar wanted Jim Bob Cooter, but wanted to know if his wife is his sister, or a first cousin.
Seriously, I have no opinion on Tierney, other than can he work with Bowles ?

Why do I keep getting hit with the duplicate content filter nearly every time I post ?

  40. #99 the Big fella Says:

I agree Bowles should of been let go, but enough of the crying and complaining..let’s all see what Bowles can do with his handpicked coaches before you jump off the skyway bridge..

  41. Cho Says:

I think the Bucs are also interviewing the Bengals QB coach. I like this trend of young coaches that have already had success in the league and are up and coming. I agree with the last few posts Joe. Maybe we need to look at the next OC as, possibly, the HC of the future as well.

  42. TombsEN Says:

Some of you just complain to complain and you don’t know what you’re talking about. What team is going to let their OC go interview for another job??? The guys that are available are available for a reason clowns. Every OC job that has been filled has been filled by someone who was fired!!!! People haven’t turned down the chance to be interviewed by the Bucs so clearly they know something you clowns do not….

  43. sasquatch Says:

Collapse talk is for losers, whiners, and complainers.

Also, I finally watched video of Caleb. Incredible specimen, great tools, all that stuff. Still doesn’t guarantee NFL success. It looks like he plays a bit out of control. That works better in college than the pros.

So, would I collapse for Caleb? Hell no.

  44. Crickett Baker Says:

I seen what Leftwitch do and what he should of done and I don’t miss him, yet.

  45. Goatfarmer Says:

Tombs – who are you talking to? I don’t see many who could be a target of your superiority take, there. Simmer down.

  46. sasquatch Says:

    *should have not “of”

    should’ve

  47. David Says:

I don’t know anything about him so I won’t comment on him, but I am pretty sure Daniel Jones newfound success is not from him.
HC DABOLL is the reason Daniel Jones suddenly did great this year and Josh Allen, the team he left, became a turnover machine

  48. SB Says:

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  49. stpetebucfan Says:

    “The setup for #Collaspe4Caleb continues.”

Why does this horrid idea keep rearing it’s UGLY head? Was the collapse for Fameis Jameis not enough? There is a 40% failure rate for 1st round QB picks over the past 25 years. The QB failure rate in the first round is 15% higher than the next most busted position. IT’S A FREAKING CRAPSHOOT.

Again our two SB winning QB…Brad Johnson 9th round…they don’t even go that far anymore so in reality Brad Johnson would have been a freaking Free Agent!
    Brady in the 6th.

Bottom line for me is if I detect the Bucs are tanking for a draft position I’m DONE as a Bucs fan. Sean Payton accused the Bucs of tanking their final game to get loser Jameis. But Payton is a dick so while I accept that ONE game perhaps the coaches didn’t put out their best effort at least there’s a little wiggle room and it was on game!

People here are taking solace in their belief that the one bright side of Bowles sucking next year is that hey we’ll get the #1 pick!

I cannot root for any team that gives up for ANY freaking reason!!! And for an entire season. R U kidding me?

  50. B_Tierney Says:

    Good Irish name.

  51. steele Says:

This guy has good qualifications. Does any hire matter as long as Bowles is HC, and everything, including the playbook, will be “his”?

The main problem is HC. Not just OC.

  52. TombsEN Says:

Well considering you just spew nonsense Goatfarmer im talking to you and fanatics like you who have nothing of substance to add

  53. sasquatch Says:

I don’t know why everyone is so in love with this one. Yeah, Daboll is a good offensive coach and you hope this guy learned something. I don’t see how he’s got better qualifications than several other candidates though. I have no objection to Tierney if they decide he’s the best guy, I just don’t know how everyone is such a fan based on limited information. We have more indication of Kubiak and Cooter’s qualifications and experience — they’ve actually called plays with some success.

  54. Crickett Baker Says:

SasQ –I was talking like Byron do. 🙂
You saw “should of” but missed “I seen”? LOLOL. I would NEVER use a preposition in place of a helping verb..
