Accountability Move: Bucs Fire Running Backs And Receivers Coaches

January 19th, 2023

Bruce Arians men get the boot.

It’s a no-brainer that the Bucs have canned some of fired and failed offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich’s assistant coaches.

Per TampaBay.com, running backs coach Todd McNair, a longtime Bucco Bruce Arians guy, has been let go along with receivers coach Kevin Garver.

The McNair move feels self-explanatory. The Bucs had the worst running game in the NFL by any major metric this season. Leonard “Playoff Lenny” Fournette regressed, Ke’Shawn Vaughn was buried on the bench and the jury is out on promising rookie Rachaad White. Joe couldn’t give McNair a good grade for the 2022 season. So why keep him?

As for Garver, Scotty Miller regressed along with ousted Jaelon Darden, Breshad Perriman and Tyler Johnson, and Joe has to think Mike Evans and Chris Godwin could be refreshed by a new voice after four years of Garver.

Garver, 35, never played college or NFL football and joined Arians’ staff in Arizona back in 2013. He previously was an assistant coach at the University of Alabama.

    Keep going!

  2. Krutch Says:

I’m not sure what OC would want this job right now with Bowles on the hot seat next season. Are we rebuilding around a bridge QB and high draft pick next year? What is expected of Bowles next year to keep his job and ensure that this OC is not a 1 and done? Questions I’d be asking of the Bucs and of my agents/mentors around the league.

That being said, wouldn’t it be great to bring Keenan McCardell back to the Bucs? Maybe I’m just after the nostalgia. Edge hot!

  3. Jeff Says:

    Fire Clueless Todd!

  4. Allbuccedup Says:

Fire Todd before all the good coaches are hired.

  5. David Says:

No brainer because of Todd Monken or Bill O’Brien get hired they’re going to want to bring in their own people.

  6. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Special teams coah needs to go and crappy OL coach

  7. sasquatch Says:

Todd isn’t going anywhere. You people still calling for his head are wasting your time. Gonna have to suck it up and hope the staff changes he makes do a better job… or keep b!tching I guess.

  8. Go Bucs Says:

They aren’t going to fire Bowles

  9. Steven007 Says:

What Sasquatch said. Todd would have been the first one out the door if that was the owner’s intention. Clearly they’re giving him a chance to hire his own staff much like Joe has tried to pound in the heads of the thick headed posters. And yes, that also means Sean Peyton is not coming here. Another bit of ridiculous wish-making by fans who must only be casuals.

  10. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Can Bowles fire himself?

  11. Jack Sparrow Says:

We are in a roll !!!! that’s what I’m talking about….. i hope next article will be “Bowles Is Gone… “.

  12. Dewey Selmon Says:

Even though Harold Goodwin was our run game coordinator he will be retained due to being an OL coach first and foremost. Keith Armstrong need to contact U-Haul, just a matter of time. I can see no circumstance where he should stay employed

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Can Armskrong stat!

  14. beano Says:

    What a dumpster fire!

  15. SB~LV Says:

I saw NOTHING from Bowels ability to shift gears and adapt. He seems to just read the script.
You do understand that his second year will not be enough for a whole list of reasons, so he will get a 3rd year
If they have ANY doubts Todd should go so the players and community can have a fresh start. Todd is doomed with second guessing next year if he is back.

Is BA handing out the pink slips? LOL.

I wonder what BA’s reaction to all this is.

    You’re probably right
And we are headed for an extended stay in the new and improved “Den of Depression”.
    Happy?

Bowles ain’t going anywhere. The Glazers will let him select his own coaching staff and bring to the Bucs what he brought to the Jets. Oh … wait …

  21. matthew a veal Says:

the hot seat means we might get a hot shot!
id feel worse, but super bowl resumes usually get hired.

surprised the special teams coach survived

  22. Chris Says:

Joe, stop with the “failed offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich” stuff. Your nicknames like “lousy Lovie Smith”, “Slimy Saints” etc make you sound like a Trump supporting loser.

Joe didn’t get to where he is today by being lame, typing in AP Style and boring readers to death.

  24. LoveMeSomeBucs Says:

So it’s probably correct that the bagel boys aren’t going to fire Bowles because he keeps them in good standing with the woke mob at NFL HQ….but how anyone can say that Bowles had to work with the staff he was given is idiotic…was he so desperate to be a head coach that he dropped to his knees and sang mammy ?? I mean Bowles was Arians guy and Arians somehow got the Glazer duo Cream Cheese and Lox to fall for his charade. As a lifelong Buc fan I am used to the crap show that goes on with the Bucs….like John McKay said when asked what he thought about the Bucs execution after another beatdown…McKay replied…I’m all for it…

  25. Redeemer Says:

Agree that Bowles isn’t going anywhere. My goodness though, two straight miserable defensive playoff loses. It’s supposed to be his wheelhouse. Being out coached by Mcvay is one thing, but Mike freaking McCarthy? Everyone and their momma knew Dak was gonna try to use his legs. All night long, Bowles vaunted defense failed to set the edge. One of the most basic principles of defensive football. It happened all year too and not just the lineman, LBs also.

Of course Joe is a hateful Trump supporter, he lives in Florida

  27. Jack Sparrow Says:

When is Arians going to leave one bucs place with his golf cart. He is an overrated coach who rode the Tom Brady phenomena. Now thinks he is a genius…. gimme a break !

  28. Bucs56 Says:

I bet the understanding is Bowles is to focus on defense and an OC with freedom to bring in his own staff is coming. Bowles gets fired OC to head coach and he has a hand picked coordinator on staff. Points to Bill Obrien. You wouldn’t do this for monken.

  29. Buc4evr Says:

Don’t think that is going to help much. Can’t blame these position coaches too much w/o an O line that can block and a stubborn OC.

  30. ClwJB Says:

The last OC that came in Under a toast coach ended up as the next HC…

Might not be a bad spot for Monken a la Dirk K

  31. NEfan Says:

Joe good stuff don’t let the woke crowd neuter you like Bowles did Brady. Sounds awful familiar like his time at the Jets. He starts to fail and heads roll. Assistant coaches won’t fix this because he has no intention of listening to them.

Chris & Jackoff, at least Trump was coherent.

  32. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

The Bucs will not be successful with Bowles. I would have cleaned house starting at the top with Licht all the way down.

  33. Pewter Power Says:

That’s it for BA, he had his time but he can’t give any input on an offense coming in that’s not his. It’s time to stop hanging on anyway

    Coherent, but literally insane. 🤣🤣🤣

I wouldn’t say one’s mental capacities can be accurately assessed when the only adjectives they know are great, tremendous, fantastic, corrupt, sad, and bigly. He might be a little low in the IQ department. #StableGenius

Hahaha, people in Boston are just as hateful to anyone who they think is different than them just like any other redneck Trump supporter because it’s in their nature ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  37. Bucsfan714 Says:

Clean house….. why keep a failed head coach that can not / will not change. Not even sure he can game plan.

  38. sasquatch Says:

^^ Give it up. It’s not happening.

  39. Goatfarmer Says:

I remember when Clyde said all the offense needed to do was generate some 2 yard runs. Maybe he had a bigger voice into Leftwurst than we knew.

  40. Goatfarmer Says:

*Clyde said that in 2001 I believe.!

  41. NEfan Says:

sasquash, agreed insane but I’ll take his policies over the current administration any day.

  42. sasquatch Says:

    nope

  43. Bucsfan13 Says:

What about the OL coaches? Wasn’t Harold Goodwin the run game coordinator? Anyone who had a hand in the historically bad run game should go

  44. Infomeplease Says:

Bowles is a loser!!! No changes can possibly fix that!!! He had the GOAT as his qb. And still coached to a losing season and embarrassing post season!!! The fix starts with his removal!!! He couldn’t even coach up his defense to play against Dallas!!! He’s got to go!!!!!!

  45. BashingBucs2520 Says:

A lot of firsts for Brady this year. First year with a losing record, first loss to Dallas, first year an entire offensive coaching staff has been fired in the offseason.

  46. NEfan Says:

sasquash I guess I debating with someone who enjoys free checks from the hard working tax payers. Enjoy your FREE cellphone. I’ll bet you can’t work due to your anxiety.

  47. HC Grover Says:

Bowles will infect any and all relacement coach and playeer with his losing game plans.

  48. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … I see the word ‘fired’ being used a lot today, but I thought all of the assistant coaches contracts were only for 2 years. IF that’s correct (and I’m not sure that it is), most of those let go would’ve been at the end of their contract anyways right now. Simple matter for the Bucs to say ‘Your contract won’t be renewed because we want to go in a new direction after this past season’s debacle which we hold you responsible for’. Tactfully of course.

Personally I’d assume that a new OC would be allowed to select his own staff.

  49. Destinjohnny Says:

Who is responsibility for giving us the worst o-line talent in the nfl??
    That’s who should be fired.

And this kind of bullsh!t response is a reflection of why we have unhinged lunatics supporting a criminal insurrectionist. Nice job. #patriot

Redeemer, D-Rok — you gents make me laugh. Thank you. Some posters think this is a doctoral candidates site for statistical regressions and analysis, Human Resources, sports psychology, and phallus length measurement.

I came here for the chicks. Since there are none, I stayed because of the beer. And posters like you lads.

  52. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

All is not lost. This team can always bring back the lawn chairs, as I surely saw defensive signs of this against the cowboys monday. Don’t wanna rough up the pantyhose you know.
Can we all say 2-15 next year? I surely can, especially if the goat goes wherever goats go:)

  53. Bucfan Says:

All these coaches are busts? Just proves that BOWLES is the problem!!

  54. NEfan Says:

So sasquash, I’m curious, what exactly has the current administration done to help this country except send out free monies driving the unemployment rate through the roof, raise the debt ceiling, lose total control of immagration at our borders, LIE about student loan relief to secure votes, etc; etc.

I’m also curious why classified documents found in BIDEN’S private abode LAST NOVEMBER is just now being publicized? I have nothing bad to say about Harris, simply because I have NO idea what she has done or is doing. Enlighten me please.
