Todd Bowles Only Rules Out Tristan Wirfs

December 3rd, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

[UPDATE 3:15 p.m.:] Boy, this is good news.

With Vita Vea and Akiem Hicks having bum wheels, and with Antoine Winfield with a sprained ankle and defensive back Logan Ryan practicing for the first time since foot surgery, plus Mike Edwards nursing a sore hamstring and Sean Murphy-Bunting having a sore quad, it appeared the Bucs would be down several defensive starters Monday against the slimy Saints.

That may not be the case.

Today, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said the only player he would rule out for Monday is right tackle Tristan Wirfs.

“Everybody’s in play” to dress,” Bowles said.

Bowles seemed very upbeat about Ryan playing.

“He had no setbacks, hopefully,” Bowles said of the veteran defensive back. “He’s been working hard, doing a little more each day. We’ve just got to see how much he can do.”

Bowles seemed to indicate he may have a fair amount of gametime decisions come Monday evening.

[UPDATE 3:15 p.m.:] Mike Edwards, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Antoine Winfield officially are listed as doubtful for Monday night.

Doesn’t matter offense will score 10 pts

  2. Rod Munch Says:

These idiot coaches have built such badwill, I literally don’t believe anything they say. I assume most of the questionable guys will miss the game, but I hope I’m wrong.

Regardless I don’t trust these moron coaches to give the team much of a chance to win this even if the Bucs are dramatically more talented.

Oh! The season is still going?

Incoming the annual home shutout to New Orleans

  5. HC Grover Says:

Uh Oh…Bowlezo Game Time decisions…Danger Will Robinson.

  6. bucnut2 Says:

I think NO kills us. Cameron Jordan against Josh Wells is a nightmare for us. There won’t be a ton of sacks because Brady will just dump to a running back or kill it in the dirt. Tom doesn’t stand in this year because he doesn’t trust protection. Receivers don’t gain separation and we can’t run it. time to think about the draft.

  7. Robert Says:

Bowles should be on mentally injured reserve

  8. Bucswin Says:

This game is looming larger and larger. I hope they have some pride.

  9. Mark Says:

    @ Anonymous. Love the optimism!

  10. Sean Says:

Good news? Bowles and Leftwich are still coaching, aren’t they? They remind me of someone who owns a Lamborghini Murcielago but doesn’t know how to drive stick.

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

    Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy.

  12. D-Rok Says:

By all accounts, it will take a miracle for us to win this game. I hope and pray I’m wrong, but it all depends on whether the Panthers Bucs show up or the Munich Bucs show up. Have no clue, and no confidence, and it should not be this way.

The Bucs in 2022 should be competitive in each game, accounting for a bad game here or there, just like any team any year. With a 5-6 record, only 2 (TWO!) games have the Bucs been competitive. The Rams game was a fluke and it was an anomaly, and thankfully the O got it done at the very end.

The Browns game should have been won, could have been won, save for coaching malpractice, malfeasance, and handcuffing the best to ever do it.

  13. Gofortheface30 Says:

Sean Murphy Bunting being doubtful is great news actually. I hope he’s doubtful every week up until Tampa decides to not resign him

  14. Aceofaerospace Says:

Doesn’t matter who plays. Coaches will lose it for us.

  15. ClwJB Says:

    Dear Buc Fam,

Perhaps if we all start praying in unison from now until kickoff Monday the combined positive energy will overpower the lack of mental ability from our coaching staff for just long enough for us to score 21 points and the. We can watch Todd call a zero blitz with 8 seconds left and Jaboo walks off a victor after beating Carleton Davis this time…

22-21 Saints even with divine intervention

It’s is again a Bucs life we live

  16. Simeon97 Says:

Nobody wants to hear form this clown anymore

  17. D-Rok Says:

    ClwJB,

I’ve never prayed for a football team to do this or that, but in this case, only prayers can elevate this team.

GO BUCS!!! Please rise above and overcome the odds!!!! Like 2020…

  18. NEfan Says:

I just read the Patriots are calling out their coaches because the offense play calling is conservative and not putting them in the position to win. Sound familiar? Their play caller is Matt Patricia another ex DC minded HC for Detriot.

  19. David Says:

I am currently watching Georgia annihilate LSU. The playcalling between run and pass with Georgia has been brilliant.

Just thought I’d share since it’s been a while that most of us have seen good playcalling.

  20. Elita Vita Says:

I agree with you David, was just thinking if we could lure Georgia’s OC/QB’s coach (Monken) here to Tampa. Great offense minded coach would be welcomed here.

  21. Dewey Selmon Says:

David, the guy calling Georgia’s plays used to our OC under Dirk. Todd “we chose to suck” Monken.

  22. ClwJB Says:

Can we rule out the OC???

Will someone please unplug his headset and everyone just pretend they still hear him. Please?

  23. Donald Trump Says:

    Todd….
    You mismanaged this team.
Your game time decisions were awful.
You’ve become a liability to this cooperation.
    Todd…..Youre Fired!

  24. Kentucky Buc Says:

It is what it is. This is why teams aren’t hiring DCs as head coaches. This is who Bowles is. Hopefully he blows an ACL coming down the tunnel and they put him on the inactive list.

  25. MadMax Says:

    Um….na, im done, nevermind….

  26. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I had some setbacks this week, but I’ll be a go for watching the game from the couch. It will be a game-time decision, on who brings my beers to me.

I’ll play possum, and get my wife to bring em. She’s so gullible.

  27. sasquatch Says:

The season is over. It’s just a slog to get to the end with as few new injuries as possible, and hopefully they’ll continue to play so awful that it makes Bowles’ firing inevitable.

  28. Darin Says:

Rule out yourself and firewich and let’s win a game!

  29. steele Says:

They can win this game if the Saints lay an egg. Saints aren’t much. The following two games, however….

  30. Your Mom Says:

I start to get excited and then realize it’s still the same lousy coaching staff.

  31. SOEbuc Says:

Donovan Smith and Wells. Go to the worst run game. They need to mix in Vaughn. Maybe take away a bit of how ridiculously obvious a run is coming up.

  32. SOEbuc Says:

Dewey…lmao good call. Nick Saban was a .500 NFL HC. Can never be certain about a college coaches

  33. Woodenman Says:

Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy or Goatfarmer

  34. ModHairKen Says:

I trust what Bowles says about as much as I trust a heroin addict in a poppy field.

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

Can’t wait for us to Mon Night. so the Bowles haters CAN rest IT FOR A WEEK.

  36. DisenheartenedBucsFan Says:

It’s been amazing to watch the BUCS become the JETS. I can’t wait to see them have a perfect season next year! 0-17, here we come!!!

  37. Defense Rules Says:

SOEbuc … ‘Go to the worst run game. They need to mix in Vaughn. Maybe take away a bit of how ridiculously obvious a run is coming up.’

Good to see someone still thinking about how we might be able to win this next ballgame. Gets boring hearing commenter after commenter pee & moan about literally everything that’s wrong with the Bucs without offering a single solution.

In regards to winning Monday’s game, I agree with you. IF we can use our woeful running game to keep their defense off-balance, we can beat them. Sustaining drives against the Saints is hard as it is, but trying to do that by relying on just a passing game is next to impossible. But they are susceptible to the run this year. They currently rank #22 in run defense, giving up an average of 4.5 YPC.

Admittedly running the ball isn’t our strength (yes I know, an understatement when you rank dead last with a 3.3 YPC average), BUT … that’s how we beat them in Game 1 this year (well, that and great defense). Bucs ran the ball 30 times in 65 plays (46.2% runs) for a measly 72 yards … which is BAD … but our passing game was no better (18-for-34 with 1 sack is barely 50%). What saved us in that game is that the Saints committed FIVE turnovers, and we scored 17 of our 20 points on 3 of those (TD, FG, Pick 6).

Saints have made 21 giveaways in 12 games, but they’ve done better in recent games (they gave it away 16 times in their first 7 games). They’re obviously playing more conservative football lately (after benching Jameis), and it’s cost them in terms of points (only 50 points scored in their last 4 games). Turnovers have really hurt them (Saints have committed 2 or more turnovers in 7 of their 12 games this year … and lost 6 of those). THAT’S their Achilles Heel.

BTW, Vaughn may not be the ‘full package RB’ that Fournette & White provide, but he was quite CONSISTENT in the Cleveland game in terms of running the ball in limited action (4 carries of 4, 6, 1, 4 yards). And 3 of those were to the left no less. I’d like to see him get more carries just to see if he can help spark some CONSISTENCY that we’ve been lacking in our running game.

  38. kyle Says:

the bucs still play tackle football? Thank you to the us soccer team! Very proud of the boys!! They had a great run.. It was a nice diversion from this toilet bowl buccaneers season..

QUIET–it is the Civil WAR and General Bowles speaks.”Gentlemen, it looks like rain tomorrow so we will wait til noon to attack”.

  40. AmauryGuzman Says:

There’s no repercussions for these guys. They know they’re safe. A loss won’t mean anything.

  41. NEfan Says:

DR, agree 100% just can’t be predictable, the run 1st down 8 out of 10 times. The offense cannot win a game when they throw away a down every series. How is it possible these coaches can’t see they have to mix things up. Plus BA built this O to be a pass first O. Square peg in a round circle.

  42. NEfan Says:

    Hole.

  43. Reach87 Says:

    Run rats run. Go Bucs!

  44. Mike Says:

I’m almost at the point where I would rather just DVR the game and maybe watch it later if the Bucs surprisingly play well than waste hours of my day in anguish to watch them look like the Dilfer led Bucs of old.

  45. SOEbuc Says:

    DR

I’m always down for more Vaughn. He has the a much better ability getting through the middle and turning up the speed than White. one game where he gets over 100 yards and everyone thought he was ROY. He is very good pass catching RB. He needs to split out much more.

  46. unbelievable Says:

Edwards and Winfield both being out will hurt us badly.

  47. Goatfarmer Says:

Toad should rule himself and his idiot stooge out.

    Brian Flores or Eric Bienemy.
