“I’m A Guy That Believes In Scoring A Bunch Of Points”

December 16th, 2022

Rare sense of frustration.

Intentionally or unintentionally, Bucs failing offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich comes across at his weekly press conferences as a guy happy to be where he is and doing his best to make sure the Bucs max out their talent.

This season has been an unmitigated disaster for Leftwich. The Bucs are averaging fewer points a game with Tom Brady, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans than the Bucs did in 2014 when the offense was crafted by ill-suited Marcus Arroyo and quarterbacked by Stewart McClown and Mike Glennon.

So yesterday, Leftwich was asked if his love of wide receiver screen passes is what he is looking for in his putrid offense. Leftwich finally seemed to hint that he’s frustrated, or at least not overly happy.

“I don’t know if anything has been effective enough to my liking,” Leftwich said. “I’m a guy that believes in scoring a bunch of points and we haven’t been able to do that.

“We’ve made a living off having big plays, explosive, scoring points – we just [haven’t] gotten that done this year.”

Then Leftwich returned to The Land of Make Believe and said the offense still has games left to turn things around. Oh really? You mean like Week 5 wasn’t the time to uncork the offense? Or Week 10? Or hell, even last week on the left coast to up their record to 7-6?

Call Joe cynical, but unless or until Leftwich (or Todd Bowles?) takes the handcuffs off the offense and allows Brady to run play-actions and hurry-up offenses, what we’ve seen this year will continue through the remaining four game.

Joe wants to be wrong, but why should any of us expect something different?

If Leftwich (Bowles?) didn’t want the offense bottled up, he would have released the hounds by now.

What are they waiting on, the Bucs to be 6-9?

LOL, I’m cynical as a mofo after watching both Bowles and Leftwich bumble around while pi$$ing what should have been a good season away.

  2. SB Says:

Sorry Joes. I didn’t read the article. I laughed and coughed myself into Hysteria just reading the title.

  3. D-Rok Says:

I about fell outta my chair earlier today when he said “It’s a blessing” regarding being 6-7.

“I’m A Guy That Believes In Scoring A Bunch Of Points” – just wow lol. PROMOTE THIS MAN!!!

The dude must realize he is at the epicenter of an epic fail of all times. The losses to Pittsburgh and Cleveland are the 2 that stand out to me as well as scoring 3 in Carolina. It seems like he is blatantly sabotaging the Bucs offense by not going play action and/or no huddle until the Bucs are getting boat raced. I am surprised Byron has not thrown Bowles under the bus yet as a plausible defense for him would be that he is handcuffed by his head coach just as Byron has handcuffed the ****ing offense. 7-10 seems like a likely record and sadly they will probably lose a tie breaker to Carolina who will probably beat them for the sweep and division in 3 weeks and if the Bucs beat the ATL, it will be meaningless, just hurts their draft position and gives them a tougher schedule next year for the new QB and coaching staff. Simple logic, bet against the Bucs and make coin, it is that simple.

  6. Vlad The Impaler Says:

I think a psychological evaluation is in order

  7. Vlad The Impaler Says:

The goal of a psychological evaluationt is to better understand a person’s strengths and weaknesses, identify potential problems with cognition, emotional reactivity, and make recommendations for treatment/remediation.

  8. FortMyersDave Says:

I concur Vlad. A narcissistic personality disorder would certainly explain the stubbornness of Byron and Toilet Bowels as well as Lovie Smith as all 3 display irrational decision making processes and a total lack of empathy toward fans and those who pay their ****ing salaries.

  9. Tye Says:

To bad his action does NOT match his words….

  10. adam from ny Says:

well, this is the week to air it out…risk it for that big ole biscuit…

because joe burrow and his gang are coming here to score some points…

    21 ain’t gonna git err dunn…

we are going to to need about 27 points or more…

the absolute least would be 24 points

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

    Dead boob drooling.

  12. Proudbucsfan Says:

He does not care about this team. He’s jealous Todd Bowles was given the head job and he’s destroying the season. He’s acclimated to losing, look at his record. He just doesn’t care. 2019,2020 and 2021 were his best years as a player and coach.

  13. steele Says:

Headline is a gut buster. Haven’t had such a good laugh in a long time. “We’ve made a living off having big plays, explosive, scoring points”? Okay…

Meanwhile, in SF…Brock the “Glock” Purdy has now won 3 in a row. He still hasn’t faced a great defense, but the more that continues, the dimmer the faint glimmer that Brady would even be considered for a 49ers job.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

It’s quite obvious that Lefty has become Joe’s favorite piñata, but there shouldn’t be any surprises here. BL is who we thought he was. He had ONE year of being an OC before BA brought him here, and that was a disastrous year for the Cardinals in 2018 … without BA. Prior to that his experience consisted on 1 year as an intern (2016) & 1 year as a QB coach (2017) . His 1st year here (2019), under BA’s wing, resulted in a losing season but with a lot of yards & an NFL record for INTs. Once getting The GOAT to play with, an awesome OLine & some renowned ‘weapons’, he did great, under BA’s wing still, for 2 years. Once he left the nest & was left on his own though when BA retired, turned out the bird couldn’t fly after all. Surprise surprise? Not really.

Why they haven’t turned the reins over to someone else like Harold Goodwin we’ll never know I guess. Apparently the 2018 Cardinals (3-13) under HC Steve Wilks also believed that BL could turn around a disastrous season. They were wrong.

  15. Hodad Says:

Leftwich believes in scoring a lot of points. He just doesn’t know how to do it.

  16. SufferingSince76 Says:

The Bucs will again make their mark in history by totally wasting Tom Brady’s last year with the team. Make the Glazers pay the price at the box office.

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

    Thanks for the chuckle Joe!

This guy is unbelievable! I’d be red-faced PO’d if I had the names on this roster and my offense went from top of the league to the bottom.
“Effective enough to my liking”?! Are you kidding?!
Sorry, but it is time to move on from this guy even if we do make it to the playoffs.

  18. Show Me the TDs Says:

Does he also still believe in Santa Claus, because that ain’t real either!

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

He very believe what he’s saying the only problem is he has a quarterback that can’t throw the ball down field. He can barely throw it 5 yards. He has a washed up quarterback and now he’s become the scapegoat because of old washed up Tom Brady. But the one thing about it is it wouldn’t have matter who the coach is they would have been the scapegoat as well . But it’s even easier when the coach is a black man. We all know how it goes down in the NFL when comes to the head coaching position .

  20. NEfan Says:

Totally impressed with the 9ers O, Shanahan doesn’t let Purdy throw over 15-20yds, the play action and motion is the reason all their receivers look wide open not to me tion the deceitful running game.

  21. Kyler Murray’s XBox Says:

We are going to get stomped this weekend. Sad.

Hopefully we can at least make the playoffs but I wouldn’t bet on it with this fraudulent squad.

    Stay Classy Byron. Phuckin moron.

  22. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

It’s both their faults. Bowles is handicapping Lefty and Lefty is either too inexperienced to just not good enough to overcome Bowles’ handicapping him by demanding a Lovie like offensive philosophy.

  23. Stormy Says:

    It’s Bowles.

    It’s always been Bowles.

The guy is an utter moron and a worthless head coach. Like Lovie, he’d rather lose his way, then win someone else’s. The only reason the Glazers don’t can this moron is if they’re tanking next year for Caleb Williams. He’s perfect for that, but not much else.

  24. Captain Oblivious Says:

So, Leftwich likes to score a lot of points and I like to sleep with supermodels but neither has happened yet. Unfortunately we’re both just going to have to settle for less because of our respective shortcomings.

  25. Infomeplease Says:

Play has always worked well for this team and most teams!! This offense refuses to go there more then say 3 times a game!!!! Very sad!!!

  26. Infomeplease Says:

    Play action (sorry)

  27. alton d green Says:

    Biden got 80 million votes

  28. Bucamania Says:

    The Bowles No Biscuit offense.

  29. CChead Says:

    Ken Dorsey Head Coach 2023

  30. BOAT Says:

There are numerous reports that Bowles doesn’t want the offense to take chances, that he does not want to throw the ball down field, that he does not want to run a hurry up offense, that he does not want to open up the play book and play calling, that he wants to play grind it out games, with scores like 17-14.

It’s the same thing he did with the Jets. He also seems to be extremely stubborn and unwilling to make any changes of adjustments, even when his teams keep losing. He had 4 straight losing seasons with the Jets and never changed his philosophy.

And yet, we recently got a report that Bowles is job is likely safe, even for next season…

    Is that you Kyle?

  32. NEfan Says:

True oneilsuckyall, that’s exactly why he won’t be fired! That’s exactly how it goes down.

  33. Tom G Says:

    1) I think the Coaches are trying to make the players fit into their game plan. It should be the other way around, taking advantage of what each player can do best. 2) I don’t think I have seen a game this year where adjustments were made to counter or take advantage of what the opposing team is showing. Like everyone else that reads this blog, I am fed up.

  34. Oneilbuc Says:

NEfan. Why you care if BL get fired or not you are only here for Brady your not a bucs fan your Brady fan. You not even a Patriots fan so really how you feel about the bucs or what happens to the bucs don’t matter to me your comments on here shouldn’t even matter to bucs fans. But I know some of them entertain your love for Brady and how it’s every one else fault because he’s old and washed up.

Anyone that is advocating for the Bucs to get rid of Tom Brady and make Kyle Trask their starting quarterback is not a Bucs fan. There is a zero percent chance anyone saying that is an actual Bucs fan.

  36. Oneilbuc Says:

Boat . I have never seen you on this site before Brady came. When you’re master leave I know you’re going with him and I can’t wait to get rid of you fake Patriots fans and fake bucs fans. And by the way if anyone don’t want to hold Brady accountable for his bad play is definitely not a bucs fan.
