Tom Brady Explains His Rule Of 400

November 24th, 2022

Math time, Julio.

Joe loves when Tom Brady starts fast-talking.

As a rule, that’s when he’s being more transparent and candid.

Yes, Joe is three years into a bachelor’s degree in Bradyspeak.

Brady upped his chatter tempo big-time yesterday when asked about Julio Jones stepping up healthy and in a No. 3 receiver role.

It’s extraordinarily critical, per Brady, and it’s all about math.

“That third-receiver position, [whoever is] in there has to be productive, and the tight end position made some plays too, which helps the production. The run game helps the production. So, you know, you always look at 400 yards of offense as kind of a baseline number. Well, how do you get there?” Brady said.

“You throw for 250, you gotta rush for 150. You throw for 300, you gotta rush for 100. So if you rush for 150, you know, and you throw for 300 you’ve had a hell of day. And you’ve still to throw that 350 to somebody and they’ve got to catch for 350, too. If Chris and Mike go for 90 each you’ve still got to come up with 170, so it’s the third receiver, it’s tight ends, running backs. Everyone’s got to figure out how to produce and add to that kind of yardage total.

“And then ultimately it comes down to third down [Brady begins banging on the podium] scoring points in the red area, and that’s where you see numbers pick up. And turnovers – you can’t score if you turn the ball over. That’s why it’s a team game. It’s the ultimate team game. The better you run it, you know, the less pressure it puts on the pass game. If you’re not running it, then you’ve got to throw for 400. Well, that’s hard to do; it’s hard to throw for 400.”

Brady went on to talk about how difficult it will be to hit the magic 400 number in what’s expected to be bad weather Sunday in Cleveland against a physical Browns team.

Regardless, Brady is 100 percent correct on the math. Production can’t be faked. Somebody must step up. Todd Bowles said it well in the preseason. Julio needs to make up a good chunk of the 55 catches, 802 yards and 6 touchdowns Gronk delivered last season in just 12 games.

And THIS is what we haven’t had all season. If Goedookie plays we’ll go back to run stuffs on 3rd&1 and Brady throwing balls in the dirt

  2. Todd Says:

When the movie 400 comes out, will the warriors sport a 12-pack or a pre-season Lombardi Lenny one-pack?

    Checks out

Bucs are averaging 340.5 ypg. I think they can get that up to 400+, if the recievers stay healthy, and the running game improves. I’m not as concerned with yards, as I am points. Maybe they go hand in hand. Like Brady said, red area production and third down is where you win. Bottom line, they’re going to need to score points to have any chance, if they make the playoffs. The defense can’t hold water forever. I hope the goat is enjoying his tofurkey.

Like he said it’s a team game. The defense needs to fill up the stat sheet too. We need turnovers which we haven’t been getting. Once we begin to get 1 or 2 turnovers per game that will increase our points and yardage. It’s hard to score points when your offense is on the sideline. That is unless your defense is making house calls.

  6. SB Says:

It is a concept he is trying to instill.

  7. B Says:

400? That’s is just 200 runs off the left guard. Boom. Done.

Only 3 more days and we’ll have another game!!!! LFG!!

  9. Rod Munch Says:

If Julio could just stay healthy, he could easily match Gronks numbers by the end of the season. Julio was, not that long ago, the best WR in football, and even Julio at 65% of what he was, is still a great player. Not if he’s only 50% of the 65% because he’s not healthy, then that’s an issue.

  10. Beej Says:

I’m hopeful that Brady has decided Otton is capable of 50-75 of those yards

Don’t think for second Brady wasn’t choosing his words carefully Joe.
He did tell it like it is though.

  12. Bucschamp Says:

Brady will rush 150 next game

  13. Lini Says:

Let’s not forget you can’t continue to shoot yourself in the foot through stupid and undisciplined penalties that are nothing but drive killers or gifts to the opposing offense! You just can’t have an undisciplined team and expect to win! Tampa to a large degree has been an undisciplined team this year. Let’s hope that changes!

  14. JD Says:

Lets get one thing straight Joe. Todd Bowles doesnt say “ANYTHING”” well!

“expected to be bad weather Sunday” – Joe

Is there any chance it will snow?
