Todd Bowles Talks Ke’Shawn Vaughn

November 9th, 2022

RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn

Buried no more is Bucs running back Ke’Shawn “Sneak” Vaughn.

He got three snaps on offense Sunday and it was his first real action since last season. Vaughn led the Bucs in rushing against the Eagles in the playoffs.

Why the change, Coach Bowles?

Todd Bowles sort of explained on the Buccaneers Radio Network yesterday.

“We wanted to get Ke’Shawn in the game. He’s been running hard all week; he’s been running hard all year in practice. So we wanted to give them a different change of pace back other than Lenny and other than Rachaad [White],” Bowles said. “We know those guys can run the ball. Lenny is more power. Rachaad’s got a little more shiftiness and Ke’Shawn has a little of both, and he’s a tough runner and one guy won’t bring him down. So we tried to give him a little of that early.”

Vaughn had three snaps and saw action on all of them — two carries for four yards and he was on the end of an off-target Tom Brady pass. Vaughn had a five-yard carry that featured him breaking a tackle and making something out of nothing. On the other carry, he lost a yard.

The Bucs have the worst rushing attack in the NFL. Giving “Sneak” a real shot feels overdue.

No matter who we run they average 3 yards

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    Tbbf….that’s just crazy.

  3. Daryl Green Says:

Play him more and you will definitely see a difference in our running game.

  4. Kentucky Buc Says:

Barry Sanders would struggle in this offense.

  5. Craig Says:

He should get more snaps now. Between him and White, the Bucs have a chance to get a breakout run that will create a little respect for our run game.

Watching Lenny miss holes would be laughable if not for the damage it might be doing to Brady’s final season.

  6. CChead Says:

If Todd Balless would insist on spreading out the offense with 3 and 4 wr sets and mix the run in then we would be more effective running the ball. And maybe pass out of the 2 and 3 te sets, like the td to Otton. Not rocket science. But no imagination coming from this group of clowns.

  7. AbucAway Says:

I’m still a Rachaad guy. And Vaughn deserves some snaps as well. Kenny, man he isn’t getting it done. It was cringe worthy when he got the hand off and didn’t hit the los hard or fast on most plays. It was obvious, even to an old fart like me. He isn’t the answer this year. Give it to White and Vaughn for a couple of games and see what happens

  8. Coburn Says:

Tbbf I actually saw a lot of longer runs from white on first down. It only needed up 3 ypc because there was like 3 times where we ran the exact same up the gut two plays in a row. First one was good yardage and second was obviously a. Stuff. And small sample size. That’s more than I’ve seen from Lenny in weeks

  9. AbucAway Says:

    Lenny*

  10. Ash Says:

Doesn’t matter who they give the ball to formations and sequences are too predictable to be effective.

  11. ClwJB Says:

We saw a lead blocker finally on a pretty regular basis last week, stick to that PLEASE!

The single back under center 32 dive DOES NOT WORK!!!

The other thing is we are always switching up between zone and power blocking – pick an identity and expand on it

We are just to vanilla in either package and everyone knows what’s coming by formation

  12. Goatfarmer Says:

Bowelswich keeping him on the bench all season was par for the boob course these morons are on. He had a really good playoff game against the Eagles last season.

    Bowelswich.

  13. SB~LV Says:

    Blah blah blah
Coaching decisions through his rearview mirror

  14. Dooley Says:

    @ClwJB

It can’t be a “32 dive” if there’s only 1 RB in the backfield. We’re not a zone or power run blocking team, our run scheme is based on duo/dbl blocking schemes and asks our OL to get as many doubles on first level defenders on the way to their assignments. It can also be boom/bust if you have OLmen and/or a TE that can/can’t win his matchups consistently, and what others deem as “runs up the gut” appear that way because most base duo runs calls for the RB to read the playside G. It can look like power, but w/o consistenly having to pull the off guard and we actually have run plays that are in effect when we can succesfully establish our bread and butter run play. BA said back in 2019 the duo run is usually always the first install every offseason.

  15. Kentucky Buc Says:

The game is not that complicated. When the D knows it’s a run everybody’s coming downhill. LBs, safeties everyone. Have to change it up. 5-6 aren’t blocking 8 when they know it’s coming.

  16. sasquatch Says:

I think Lenny should be #3 behind Ra White and Keshawn, but 7 million says he’s gonna get the heavier workload. It’s a shame his contract is guaranteed next year cuz he’s not worth 7 million. Now we’re gonna have to eat it.

  17. 941bucsfan Says:

Its simple defenses arent stacking the box… they know they can stop the run, attacking hainsley and the left guard by only rushing 4 people. Therefore dropping 7 in coverage…. that would never fly with marpet and jensen… Lets stop pretending like 2 3rd string lineman are even close to the level as marpet and jensen… All offseason everyone was considered with our offensive line!! Well here we are, we all seen it coming, you just didnt wanna believe it.

First fans were saying the arians and brady rift was false, saying that no way bruce arians was using a red pen changing leftwich and bradys plays..

Now arians is gone, now all of sudden its just leftwich plays and brady has nothing to do with it.

Now you want arians back, but I thought he wasnt involved in the first place.

Its simple: Brady has the freedom to change plays, which he does, and they dont work either… Idgaf how many superbowls he has, his plays aren’t working either. The bucs are a slow, beat up football team, and you can blame licht for that.

  18. SB Says:

I know a guy who is the RB for one of the worst teams in the NFL who is still 5th in the NFL in rushing yards and 2nd in the NFL in Yards After Contact that we should have drafted.

    Dameon Peirce!

  19. Buccos Says:

Watch his college highlights. He is a threat to take it to the house. That was his specialty in the SEC

  20. BillyBucco Says:

This team won’t realize what they have until Lenny is hurt a game.

  21. WiseOne Says:

Rachad white should get more carry, he is getting more yards than Lenny, he run hard and fast through the middle, he doesn’t hesitate or run sideways.
