A Spark From The Secondary

November 4th, 2022

UPDATED: Great news at One Buc Palace.

It sure seems like No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis will play Sunday against the Rams, and backup corner Sean Murphy-Bunting, the last man wearing pewter and red to force a turnover, also will return.

It’s hard to get too excited about anything Bucs this week with the team on its first three-game losing streak since 2019. But Joe can get excited about seeing more Davis and SMB and less Dee Delaney and Zyon McCollum.

Pro Bowl safety Antoine Winfield also could return from his concussion (he missed last week’s game) but that’s unclear. (UPDATE: Winfield is out.) Todd Bowles shared a lot of love for safety Keanu Neal on the Buccaneers Radio Network this week; Neal played every snap against Baltimore in Winfield’s absence.

Every NFL team should get a positive jolt from the return of its No. 1 corner. Davis injured his hip against the Steelers and missed the last two games. He’s been full-go at practice this week.

Something/someone has to snap the Bucs out of their horrible funk.

Davis missing time is nothing new. He’s missed at least two games injured in each of his five Bucs seasons.

Happy for the Defense getting more healthy….

But…..we need our offense to crank it up Sunday….we need 30 points out of them in the worst way….and there is really no reason for them not to deliver.

    We’ve got Brady…..3 top healthy receivers….

    And, we’ve got Brandon/Byron…

    Let’s go Byron!!!

  2. D-Rok Says:

Go get you a pick-six, Davis! Your team needs a huge spark.

And that Zyon kid showed a nice flash with that pass defensed in the end zone – that was a nice play and took 6 off the board.

I thought u annouced that they fire Leftwitch, damn what a let down.

  4. DG060 Says:

This coaching staff have changed nothing and just HOPE the team starts playing better? They got one decision right by accident. Geodeke has the foot injury so they had to start Nick. Low and behold things improved on the line.
The confidence level I have for this entire coaching staff is miniscule. If we do win on SUnday it’ll probably be in spite of the coaching staff.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

D-Rok … McCollum will more than likely be fine for the future, but he’s not ready to be starting right now. Saw too many plays in these last games where the opposition picked on him mercilessly. He’s fast, but he’s playing tentatively it looks like. Maybe afraid of making a mistake? That’s the best way to guarantee you’ll make a mistake. Have to play fearless.

  6. Mike Says:

Yeah, McCollum has a lot to learn and was getting beat every which way to Sunday, in both the run and pass game. Would be nice to have some reliable play from the secondary.

  7. D-Rok Says:

    DR and Mike,

Agreed on McCollum – he’s a rookie and is playing like it. I pointed out his one bright spot because it was good technique and was an important play at the time.
So, there’s hope for this young man, most likely, starting next year after he gets his NFL legs under him. I hope there’s hope for him!!

Hey Glazers. Last I heard the bucs game is not sold out Sunday. What does that tell you? Fans are really effin fed up with this crap. sorta feel sorry for the fans that threw away hard earned cash to watch these BUMS. And since Bowles & Leftwitch are doing such a bang up job why don’t you go ahead & give them a raise. Poor Glazers are so clueless.

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ho hum, NO coaching change NO change in results. The definition of insanity!

  10. Eric b Says:

Agreed fire these coaches, we have the talent and were wasting it…

  11. gbobucsfan Says:

Winfield ruled OUT. along with brate, Luke G and Gage.

  12. captivajim Says:

The secondary has not been THE problem. the Bucs ,in general, seem out-of-shape ,,and out -of-heart….

  13. DisenheartenedBucsFan Says:

The coaching staff will change nothing and merely hopes everything will get better…. Hmmm…. Ok. I guess we’re about to drop another deuce.

  14. Goatfarmer Says:

Toad will explore every avenue to scheme up creative blitz packages and coverages that none of his guys have a prayer of comprehending. Result? Rames 31+, and since Braindead Leftboob is still the most offensive Uncoordinator, bucs -3.

    Nightmare.

Jason – how do you pull us out of this?
