Report: Logan Ryan Headed To Injured Reserve

October 18th, 2022

Surgery.

A key piece of the Bucs defense may be out for a while and the curse of the 2022 free agent class grows.

Now it is defensive back Logan Ryan who will miss time. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Ryan will have surgery on his injured foot.

Ryan joins other Bucs free agents who can’t stay on the field including Akiem Hicks, Julio Jones and Russell Gage, who while he can play seems to have been hurt since OTAs.

Ryan, 31, got injured early in the Week 4 game against Kansas City. The Bucs defense hasn’t been the same since. Ryan had an interception, 2 passes defensed and a forced fumble in his limited action.

  1. Leopold Stotch Says:

Ughhh clearly, his presence was desperately needed back there. Not good! Hope he recovers well.

  2. Bucsfan13 Says:

    Should’ve kept Jordan Whitehead

  3. Thomas Edrington Says:

And the hits just keep on coming — when things start going sideways, it’s almost like — Who’s Next on the injury parade??

  4. sasquatch Says:

Playoffs? You’re talking about playoffs? Playoffs?

I’ve already written this season off. Seen enough. Turnarounds are to be believed when seen. I’ll be waiting.

  5. D-Rok Says:

    Well, rats.

  6. SlyPirate Says:

“… plans to be back for the playoffs”

The only way is winning the NFC South. Falcons and Saints are getting better while the Bucs keep getting worse.

  7. Redeemer Says:

This is bad. Ryan was like having a good coach on the field. The secondary looked better when he was out there. Hope he can return.

  8. Goatfarmer Says:

This defense is done. Cooked. He is the only one who understand’s Toad’s Calculus 5 defensive scheme.

Even Winfield doesn’t know what he’s doing on critical plays.

Such morons we haven’t seen since the Smith Brothers.

  9. Rick Says:

The Bucs should still make the playoffs. We’ve seen this before, teams who get hot towards the end of the season carry that momentum into the playoffs. A returning Ryan Jensen hopefully helps us move Hainsey to guard (or vice versa) and the line solidifies. Maybe Gronk returns? There are multiple young players who will hopefully get better as the season goes on. Akeem Hicks returning takes some pressure off Vita Vea? Russel Gage gets healthier after the bye week? Julio gives us an element of separation and a deep threat that none of the other three can bring? There are a lot of reasons for optimism and the sky is not falling.

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

Cue the old Jim Mora Saints rant. “PLAYOFFS?????! Don’t talk about p-p-PLAYOFFS! I jus hope we can win a game.”

Quite applicable here. All this talent. Diva White worse than ever. Trade his ass, maybe you could get a number 1 and someone who isn’t just all about himself. I hated the pick when we drafted the cat and his $100 million crap.

  11. Casual Observer Says:

Agree with Rick. It is our turn to get healthy.

  12. Leopold Stotch Says:

Joe! Different topic, but I just saw on Outkick that Jensen may come back in time for the Rams game. Do you have any knowledge of this?

  13. PassingThru Says:

Jones fracture? That’s serious as little blood flows to that region. This will likely take Ryan out for most, if not all the season.

  14. BucU Says:

Doesn’t matter. This team is destined to go down in flames this season. The tea leaves have spoken.

  15. Lee Says:

Quit signing over the hill free agents Jason Licht. Time to blow this up and get a lot younger. Brady’s last year has been wasted because of bad management. Back to being the Yucks!!

  16. Christos Says:

Ryan was playing good and his experience will be missed in the secondary.
My question is about the team, front office, doctors and medical stuff.
Why he is out 2 weeks already, you wait this time to decide he needs surgery and he is not in IR before. Just like Hicks who was not put in IR (you must stay there at least 4 weeks) to free up a roster spot and he has missed 4 weeks anyway.

  17. Bucsfan13 Says:

Keanu Neal sucks. This is a big deal

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ryan out will hurt…..he is important to that secondary…….We’ll have to pick up our offense to take some pressure off the D…..

  19. Goatfarmer Says:

No moves to fortify the O-line. At. All.

The reason Bymoron isn’t passing is, Tom is afraid. It’s that simple. And Lenny is hesitant because he never knows what he’s going to see so running with zero confidence.

Enemas for all the coaches and for Licht if he stays put on his sieve.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Rick … ‘A returning Ryan Jensen hopefully helps us move Hainsey to guard (or vice versa) and the line solidifies.’

Might be just me, but in watching Hainsey Sunday, I was quite
unimpressed. I’d rather stick with Goedeke at LG at this point if Jensen really does return early.

Noticed that Leverett’s listed as a backup Guard. Wondering why he never got a shot at starting; at times in the past I thought he looked OK, for a backup.

  21. Rick Says:

hard to say… but Goedeke always seems to be getting blown up on run plays and giving up sacks. On Leverett my guess is that Tampa likes to get their linemen out in space and Luke G is the better athlete. Leverett I thought was pretty good vs colts last year…

  22. Pancake block Says:

    Playoffs? Playoffs!! (Jim mora jr)

  23. unbelievable Says:

That sucks. He was the only free agent who actually has contributed at a solid level.

  24. SB~LV Says:

4 weeks at least in a boot if it is bone.

  25. Defense Rules Says:

Hate to lose Ryan, but the guys we have starting in our Secondary (Winfield, Edwards, Davis, Dean, SMB … when he’s healthy) have been together for quite awhile (like 3-4 years). No excuses; they should be a definite strength for this defense. Same with LVD & White; no excuses. DLine has its issues (Hicks? poor leadership?) but they’ve also got a lot of good experience, so they just need to man-up. Of course it would help if Suh was back in there Jason (cough cough).

  26. steele Says:

Ryan was the key to the secondary and the entire defense. Losing him is as bad as losing Jensen, possibly even Brady. Another fork to stick into this season.

Without Ryan and the outside influence and glue that he brought, the same old secondary and Bowles will simply revert to what lost the playoff game vs. Rams. A bunch of guys running around, out of position, missing things, not coordinated.

More and more, it’s coming down to just Bowles, failing to get all the pieces working together properly. Better coaches can get more production of out lesser “talent” than many on this roster.

  27. Jmarkbuc Says:

    DR

It’s a shame that after 3/4 years together, they’re still not close to playing like day, the Eagles secondary.

The Eagles, as much as this makes me sick, look like the best in the NFC top to bottom and front to back.

  28. Your Mom Says:

Some pretty poor Licht decisions in hindsight. And what seemed like bad but are turning out good decisions by other teams, like Atlanta.

  29. OBVIOUS Says:

Yeah. Cough… Cough Jason Licht. YOU ARE ON THE HOT SEAT! As far as the owners go, you are in the cross hairs bud. Your LACK is costing them 10’s if not HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars this season ALONE…

And then VALUATION of this team could LITERALLY DROP BY 1,000,000,000 (BILLION) IN ONE SINGLE YEAR!!!
That is A LOT of ZEROS my man. And Licht, I ACTUALLY LIKE YOU! I don’t want you to lose this job. You FINALLY got it figured out what it takes to be one of the VERY BEST General Managers ON THE PLANET! You sir, HAVE BEEN AWESOME!

With that said I’ve just got to ask, WHAT IN THE SAM HELL ARE YOU DOING? Are you in the fetal position or are you POUNDING THE TABLE AND YOUR CHEST DEMANDING and kicking arse or Are you kissing 💋 everybody’s arse? ARE YOU IN CHARGE AND WILL MAKE THIS RIGHT?
Let’s look at those zeros one more time…. A 1,000,000,000 “BILLION” DOLLAR DEVALUATION!

If you lose this organization that much value in a single year, YOU WILL NEVER EVER BE A GM AGAIN! Well, there is the PEE WEE leagues that might give you a shot. Hey, maybe your old high-school will take pity. Well maybe. THEY ARE ON A BUDGET YOU KNOW!

MAN UP LICHT! DON’T LET THIS SLIP AWAY! DO NOT BE THE MAN THAT BLEW IT FOR NOT ONLY THE GLAZER FAMILY AND THE ENTIRE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS FAN BASE! AND, AND, AND DO NOT LET TOM BRADY’S EPIC CAREER GO OUT IN A WIMPER BECAUSE YOU WON’T GET HIM THE HELP OR MAKE THE HARD CHOICES THAT HE AND “ALL OF US” DESERVE! Buccaneer Fans have SUFFERED ENOUGH!
Mr. LICHT, please help Tom Brady go out like TARZAN! Not like Jane. Remember that in the end its up to you to be THAT HERO or zero….

    Make it RIGHT LICHT

    GO BUCS!

  30. theghost Says:

no guarantee this team can make the playoffs…

  31. macajubav Says:

gonna start selling my seats for this year. made $350 per seat for Atlanta, lol !

  32. Redeemer Says:

    Nope

  33. adam from ny Says:

atlanta is getting all frothy at the mouths right about now…

i bet they think they have a shot at the division

  34. Frank Pillow Says:

    To quote Jim Mora…
    “PLAYOFFS!?!?”

  35. Faspro Says:

    @Bucsfan13, yep…

  36. Defense Rules Says:

Jmarkbuc … When they played together CONSISTENTLY for the last half of the 2020 season, they seemed to do pretty good communicating. Last year was an abomination because of injuries, but this year seemed to be settling in OK until the last 2 games with Ryan & Edwards out. I haven’t given up hope (yet) for a 2nd half of the season surge.

  37. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Bucs should have everyone back and healthy when they’re 6-10.

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

Losing Ryan will seriously impede this secondary, he brought intelligence and experience.

    SMB is what he is.

  39. Buccos Says:

Logan Ryan was not on our Super Bowl team. He is a great asset but we won without him before. No excuses! I like watching all the RATS jump off the ship. There were many years when we would have been thrilled to start 3-3 and be in first place in our division. There are a lot of new players starting for us. They will find their way. We have the ultimate leader at QB. I love watching the real fans separate from the RATS. Swim away RATS… swim away.

  40. Eckwood Says:

@christos ………. Exactly !!! The dum jock disease strikes again !!!

  41. Goatfarmer Says:

We got us some plumb dumb idjuts running the cirus here now.

  42. D-Rok Says:

    We can do it!

    GO BUCS!!! DO IT.

  43. Whoolio? Says:

All the fans completely writing off the bucs should sell their tickets and turn on the bachelor. The season ain’t over and despite horrible play and play calling it only take small changes to make a big difference. Yes I’m down on the bucs, but if you’re writing them off your no true fan. If the redskins can make the playoffs with heinicke and Noone else, you don’t think Brady, Evans, and Godwin can turn things around?🤡🤡🤡

  44. Whoolio? Says:

Also those saying Ryan is the end all be all must have missed our superbowl season. We basically have our whole secondary from the season plus some great depth minus whitehead. Ryan is a loss but he’s not a make or break player. Guys need to get their head in the game (White) and things will be OK as long as the dline can get a little pressure and push.

  45. Tvan101 Says:

Whitehead and his affordable contract are greatly missed.

  46. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

After seeing what a good head coach did with a depleted defense, I never again want to hear from this guy that we are “limited in what we can do because Player X is hurt” Mike Tomlin showed Todd Bowles how a good football coach handles that situation.

  47. LakelandSteve Says:

Maybe the Bucs need to rethink there strategy. They are allegedly holding Julio Jones out so he is available for the playoffs. Desperate teams don’t do that, teams that believe they have a playoff spot locked in do. If the Bucs brain trust are sending messages that we are holding guys out for the playoffs then the rest of the players are going to believe they already have it in the bag. When the Bucs won the Super Bowl, they went on a run and never lost a game at the end of the year. Why? They played like a desperate team. There is no fire in this team, no desperation. I think we may not even make the playoffs this year. That’s how bad we are right now. The main reason, our guys are playing like they already have the playoffs locked up.

  48. Lg55 Says:

I just want to be entertained. Even if we don’t win at least give me some wow moments to get excited about.
