Patterns Suggest Monster Sunday For Tom Brady

October 14th, 2022
Tom Brady

Passing explosion coming?

Well, how about that? Guess who is leading the NFC in passing yards?

That would be none other than Tom Brady, that’s who. He has 1,409 yards passing, third overall in the NFL and best in the NFC. And for those triggered by picks, Brady, despite having 207 pass attempts, has but one pick.

Yeah, despite being 45, Brady is the same ol’ Brady: Dominant. And since Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have returned to the field, Brady has been really warming up.

If you believe in patterns, the way the Steelers’ pass defense has been getting gouged and the way Brady has started to turn up the heat, you can see why some believe Brady is going to light up the Steelers on Sunday.

Noted handicapper turned fantasy guru Warren Sharp Twittered out interesting numbers on the yards-per-attempt against the Steelers pass defense in the past four games. It screams that Brady is going long early and often.

Mac Jones: 7.2 YPA
Jacoby Brissett: 7.1 YPA
Zach Wilson: 7.0 YPA
Josh Allen: 13.7 YPA

Yeah, with middling quarterbacks, the Steelers pass defense was just OK. When it faced an elite quarterback — boom!

And yes, Joe thinks it is fair to refer to Brady as elite (yet Joe is still nervous about referring to a Bucs quarterback as “elite” after being conditioned to horrid quarterback play for decades until 2015).

I recall horrible QB play after 2015, as well.

  2. Hail2dabucs Says:

Until 2019 …there , I fixed it for you joe

  3. Hail2dabucs Says:

    2020…darn phone

  4. Jeff Says:

No way. Pittsburgh lacks talent but has vastly superior coaching. It’s not even close. HOF coach and staff more than capable of out scheming simpleton Todd Bowles and clueless Leftwhich.

  5. Chris l Says:

Are we calling jameis elite? I think you meant *2019

  6. Parrishbucsfan Says:

    Definitely started in 2020.

  7. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

There you go Jeff. Demonize the intelligence of a man way smarter and more intelligent than you by calling him a simpleton even though he was instrumental in getting us a Super Bowl title. Never in a 1k lifetimes could you ever achieve the positions he’s coached. He’s stubborn but definitely no simpleton , simpleton. You should read a dictionary to read up on the meaning of such big words before using them.

  8. Kentucky Buc Says:

Nice little bit of Triggernometry throwing that 2015 in there.

  9. beano Says:

What if we had drafted Justin Fields instead of Kyle Trask in 2021, and this was the QB line in the last 2022 preseason game?

    RTG
    Justin Fields 99.6
    Blaine Gabbert 89.0
    Tom Brady 87.5

What would you all be saying? I know what you all would be saying. I also know you all lack the honesty to admit it.

  10. Dooley Says:

Idk Joe, I kinda liked Jeff Garcia back in ’07 lol

  11. RandsABucFan Says:

So this will be the game Lenny gets 200 yards

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Mike Glennon can go up to Pittsburgh & win….I think Tom will get the job done…..
And, Byron…..make sure you read this (I assume you can read)……and set your game plan accordingly.

  13. BucsfanFred Says:

When did you learn to sing, Joe?
That was music to my ears.
    Bucs 48 Steelers 3

  14. Patrickbucs Says:

Be so that was a really stupid email. Fields went way before we had our first round pick. He’s been awful, pretty much outside of some runs and deep passes. And that’s with a very good running game. I’ve yet to hear anyone say Fields is good so far.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jeff has a point, Tomlin has played against Brady many times, albeit Brady is 12-3 against Steelers so during Tomlins tenure he rarely figured Brady out and the Steelers have had some superior teams. Beano is a clown, ya draft Fields and Bucs play the 2020 thru 2022 season with him. Passer rating means squat, Brady throws more than Fields, more TD’s, passing yards, 1st in the league last year and apparently leading the NFC (same division as Fields) this season. All Fields does is LOOSE!!! He cried the entire game last night everytime he was hit. Fields is a bust just like Lance, neither will ever win anything.

  16. Mike C Says:

Beano, what are you talking about?

  17. 1#bucsfan Says:

Let’s go Bucs. When this team does and it will happen but when this team is firing on all cylinders not even the chiefs will beat us

  18. Mike C Says:

Oneilbuc says we should bench this trash 45 year old qb…… who leads the nfc in passing and only has ONE PICK! jaymiss would have had 8 by now, but would have 100 more passing yards so would obviously be the better qb. Yes this really is how the mind of Oneilbuc works.

  19. Bob in valrico Says:

I am ready for that. Running the offense through Fournette was not as successful as some think. We need to score more. If it wasn’t mIKE’S 40 yard reception that set up
a TD and Succups two field goals it could easily been an Atlanta win. We need to use all our weapons to make this offense really click.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oneilsuckyall is going to jump on the Beano wagon in about 10 minutes the length of time it will take for him to read it.

  21. 1sparkybuc Says:

    Check the franchise records

PASS patterns matter. Statistical patterns do not.

What if we had drafted Justin Fields instead of Kyle Trask in 2021?

We would have had to move up with draft capital and we would have been a worse team than we are now. We would have been paying him over 3 million last year, over 4 million this year and over 5 and 6 million the next two years for a guy that just does not look like he has it.

The better question would be in 2018, what if we had taken Josh Allen instead of Vita Vea, MJ Stewart, Carlton Davis, and Jordan Whitehead.

  24. Defense Rules Says:

Josh Allen threw deep A BUNCH while he was in there (5-for-12 deep) & racked up a ton of yards as a result. The other three? Dink & dunk & diddly. Brady SHOULD do the same thing to the Steelers’ Secondary. Bills didn’t run all that much (only 18 times in 54 plays … 33% run-pass), but they racked up 120 yards doing it (6.7 YPC). Hard to tell if the run set up the pass … or vice versa.

Pittsburgh dominated the TOP in that game (36 to 24) and the number of plays (72 to 54) but got trounced 38-3. Reason? Their defense isn’t the Steel Curtain of old (rank #30 in pass defense & #22 in run defense, surrendering 128 points … 25.6 PPG average … in the process. Good news for Bucs’ fans is that their offense has only scored 77 points total, ranking them #30 in the NFL. STILL … you don’t ever take any opponent lightly. On any given Sunday … yada yada.

  25. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Defenserules. We’re getting one of our deep threats back in Perriman. The Steelers secondary are banged up. If Fitzpatrick doesn’t play, that’s huge. They might play a Cover 2 shell to prevent big plays. That’s what teams have been playing against us. I would love to see some deep shots. The key is will our OL give him time. If that turnstile we have at LG can’t stop his man, we’re in trouble.

  26. CrackWise Says:

How many teams have scored more than 20 against the Bucs this year?

    EXACTLY!!!

If we continue to hold other teams to less than 20, we will win out!!!

  27. beano Says:

“Listnfrmafar Says: Beano is a clown, ya draft Fields and Bucs play the 2020 thru 2022 season with him.”

Fields was in the 2021 draft class with Trask, so he could not have “played the 2020 season” with the Bucs. What a clown.

Fields blows, throwing 11 TDs to 15 INTs over the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Bears, oh, and with 59 sacks. And you say “ya draft Fields and Bucs play the 2020 thru 2022 season with him”? What a clown.

    LMAO

  28. The Beer Whisperer Says:

Trask, has never lost an NFL game.
    Fields, not so much.

  29. geno711 Says:

I typed this over an hour ago and apparently the mods did not like it.

But Beano you have the wrong question. Instead of Fields, what if the Bucs drafted Josh Allen instead of Vita Vea?

  30. alton green Says:

as a career brady fan, i can’t wait to hear the reception he gets in Pitts. I’m gonna say not good hahaa. For his entire career he has been Pitt’s kryptonite. hahaha. Remember the Jesse James’ touchdown? woops, no TD hahahahha. Pitt fans still wet their pants even though the rules PLAINLY said otherwise. They even think Biden got 80 million votes

  31. alton green Says:

one more thing. after that ruf the passer call, our defense better pick up that rookie QB and carry him to the sidelines and sit him in a chair and ask him if he needs anything

  32. Goatfarmer Says:

The new QB sack is a hug. A standing hug. A big standing group hug. Big standing men, hugging. Oneilsuky’all would love being in the middle of a big man hug. With JaMiss.

  33. Allen Lofton Says:

I’m excited about seeing the Bucs play – Hurricane Ian put me and Cape Coral Florida out of action the past couple of weeks

  34. Listnfrmafar Says:

Beanblo@ if your point was Fields over Brady or he is the answer to the Bucs dreams then you are the idiot. If you meant he would have been a better pick than Trask, I agree yet the Bucs would have had to give up some valuable picks to move up. Don’t really care what year they were drafted they are both 3rd tier QB’s at best. Getting sacked 59 times means he holds on to the ball too long.

  35. Bucobill99 Says:

    Jeffs source is wrong again

What is the difference between saying “cover 2” and “cover 2 shell?” Could somebody explain this to me?

    Well how that go joe😂
