The Devil Was In The Film Details

September 12th, 2022

Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White.

Simply put, the Bucs smothered Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott last night.

Just look at his paltry numbers. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think it was Jared Goff or Daniel Jones or Sam Darnold.

Prescott was 140of-29 with 134 yards passing, no touchdowns and a pick.

The Bucs really took Prescott to the woodshed. He left the game late in the fourth quarter with an injured hand courtesy of Shaq Barrett and a dude elevated from the practice squad came in to relieve him.

Bucs linebacker Devin White said the key to stifling Prescott was research.

“I think it was just great preparation,” White said. “This time going into the game [the Bucs] already [had] film against them against us and knowing how they like to attack us. So I think we were able to put together a better game plan than last year.

“Last year we learned they really weren’t going to commit to the run game and the runs they did [try], they were going to try to get outside and not run into the interior.

“But most of the [passing] game was a quick game. A lot of curls, a lot of hitches, a lot of slants. We kind of knew that going in so we were able to attack it.”

Joe remembers last week asking Dean if he thought film of Dallas facing the Bucs in the 2021 season was more important than the Cowboys’ January film against the 49ers.

Dean told Joe he would rather study the Bucs tape because it shows how each Bucs player did or didn’t do against a specific Cowboys player — more apples-to-apples than watching the Cowboys play the 49ers.

It seems White agreed and the results spoke for themselves.

Holding the Cowboys, who led the league in scoring last year, to three points? A crazy strong defensive effort all around.

Great win. Defense did Alright, but some very questionable play
    Calling from Byron.

  2. UnderMeBucinHat Says:

So nice to have the first win. I can rest a little easy knowing the ‘Boys are 0-1 lol haha My Bucs are 1-0

  3. Buczilla Says:

I was seriously impressed with our defense and t was fun to watch.

  4. CrackWise Says:

    @Gmoney

Not questioning the play calling what so ever.

I told yall for a reason, expect a run heavy game plan early and often the first 4 games.

We have to win the TOP battle to keep our D fresh so that we can beat these team.

Expect more of the same this week!!!

  5. Mike C Says:

Gmoney “defense did alright “, holding last years number 1 offense to less than a point a quarter is “alright”? You have a very odd rating scale my friend.

  6. richbucsfan Says:

Hope the D does research vs. Saints. Smash mouth game coming up. 2seriously heavyweights. Go Bucs

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Very impressed with the D. As mentioned, Dallas led the league in scoring last year. I thought the pass rush would be better. But the DBs were excellent. Credit to them and their coaches. Keep it up!

  8. PSL Bob Says:

In addition to a great game plan, two things stood out to me. I thought the tackling was really good last night. I think I only saw one or two whiffs the whole night. The other thing was special teams. They covered punts and kicks really well.

    @Gomney

    “Defense did alright”

If you allow 3.8 yards per attempt both passing and running you win all of your games.

    Go Bucs! Get Live!

Certainly the players deserve a lot of credit but for me I think of Bowles.

His return to the HC position couldn’t have gone better. HIS D smothered the ‘Boys and BL and TB got the offense though opening game mistakes.

BTW did everybody see Father Dungy’s interview with Bowles before the game.
The man can sing! And he has a wry sense of humor and honest.

Rated himself as too slow but using athleticism and smarts to carve out a career which included an int against the Bucs in his playing days.

  12. Coburn Says:

It helped they were very depleted. I’m excited about the d as well, just hope they don’t expect it to be this easy next week

  13. Jeff Says:

I thought Byron called a magnificent game. Cowboys never knew what was coming. Very Patriots like game plan.

  14. Jerry R Jones Says:

BL needs to be more creative with his play calling. It’s pretty obvious.

  15. Ash Says:

    Defense did alright? Lol ok

  16. adam from ny Says:

yeah at one point in the second half, i was like:

“this team really isn’t even competing with the bucs”
