Logan Hall’s Workload Just Increased

September 23rd, 2022

Bucs DL Logan Hall.

The Bucs seemed content bringing rookie second-round draft pick Logan Hall along methodically.

The defensive lineman played nearly a third of the snaps in Week 1 against the Cowboys and that bumped up to nearly half the snaps last week at New Orleans.

Of course, a big reason for that was defensive tackle Akiem Hicks went down with a foot injury Sunday and it looks like he will be out a month.

So, ready or not, the Bucs will be counting on more — faster — from the Houston product than previously planned. And the way co-defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers put it yesterday, even if Hicks was healthy, Hall was sort of earning more playing time.

“The thing with him is he just keeps growing,” Rodgers said. “The veterans keep commenting and we think it’s really getting close to starting to click for him.

“We can see his rep count going up and he’s really hungry, you know what I’m saying? Especially now with Akiem [Hicks] down, his jump has got to come faster.”

At least for this week, Hall’s biggest test will be stopping the run. The Packers have what appears to be a fearsome one-two punch at running back and given all the upheaval of the Packers’ receivers, combined with how drama queen Aaron Rodgers is getting older, it seems the Packers want to run the ball down teams’ throats.

Then again, the Bears are such a garbage team that Green Bay didn’t need to air it out last Sunday.

If the Bucs have a weakness on defense, it is the rush defense. So there is no reason to expect the Packers to go pass happy Sunday. Unless they are trailing, of course.

Way too early in the morning for Suh ….it’s like the sun has set on Suh! …see what I did there!

  14. lunchmeat Says:

No one is yet desperate enough to pay Suh’s price.
For example: NFL.com reports that JPP has signed with the Ravens for $5.5 M. Good for him, and I hope he makes it to the Super Bowl. But nobody was paying like that for him back in March.

I rewatched the Rams playoff game again last night.

You know who caused the fumble to even give us a shot in that game???

SUH, and it was a SPECTACULAR play on his part against the RUNNING BACK!

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

Crack, you’re right about that fumble causing play. Suh was the only defensive player who showed up for four quarters in that game.

  32. Dooley Says:

What I’ve like most about Logan Hall so far this season is that his hands are really violent and he’s done a good job splitting blockers. Could afford to make the most of his movement by not wasting any motion, but off the snap he’s not leaning on blockers or getting pushed around by 1 man. I expect to see more of he & Nacho with Hicks out, still rooting for the Nacho to come up with his first clean full sack too.

  33. OBVIOUS Says:

    “SUH!’

  34. #8 Says:

Nobody is saying Suh over Hall. Or Suh over Hicks (if and/or when dude’s foot heals). Or Suh over anyone.
Simply add Suh to the rotation.
    Suh.

  35. Knucknbuc Says:

Whats SUHHHH gonna do for you? Perfect time to sign him to get under aarrooonnss skin.

  36. David Says:

For the love of God will you people go back and look at last year‘s games. SUH was extremely ineffective. Two total games were he had a pass rush and progressively got worse against the run. Age caught up to him throughout the season. Plus he wants about 8 million a year and he is a back up worth maybe 2.

    EMBRACE THE ROOKIE!

  37. #8 Says:

I went back and watched the last Rams game.
Keep Suh fresh via rotation load management.
    Suh. Manifest it!

  38. CrackWise Says:

  42. BucBrady Says:

You know mods can see IP addresses and see when you create multiple screen names, right?

If Suh was worth anything right now he’d be employed. It’s not just the Bucs—NO ONE WANTS HIM.

  43. D-Rok Says:

We need to add Suh to our man-meat rotation. He can train the rookie, as a bonus.

  47. Defense Rules Says:

    David … ‘EMBRACE THE ROOKIE’.

We’ve had this discussion several times now David, but you keep misrepresenting Suh’s 2021 accomplishments every time you mention his name. Spreading the same falsehoods over-and-over again doesn’t make them true.

And as far as ‘Embracing the rookie Hall’ goes, I’m sure that Bucs’ fans will embrace him AS SOON AS he actually accomplishes something. Through his first 2 games, he’s been on the field for a total of 49 def snaps (37.7% of our opponents 130 plays). His accomplishments: 0 sacks, 0 QB hits, 0 QB Pressures, 1 TFL and 1 tackle. Now I’ll grant that 2 games is a small sampling, but stats like that don’t exactly scream ‘EMBRACE THE ROOKIE’ to most of us. Apparently to you it does though. Seems like it’d be beneficial for him to have someone like the VETERAN SUH to learn from. Suh sure did seem to help Vita Vea.

  48. Lakeland Steve Says:

    Ok I’m game, SUH!

  49. geno711 Says:

I see Logan Hall being more like Calais Campbell than Suh in the long run.

Unfortunately for us Bucs fans, Campbell did not do much in his rookie season.

  53. Crickett Baker Says:

There are at least three teams going after Suh. He will be our opponent soon and he knows how to avoid hamstring injuries. sigh

  54. BucG8R Says:

They’re not signing Suh. He only signs one year deals, and they already don’t have enough cap space to sign him, much less leave anything left over for future needs.

    That ship has sailed.

  55. Buccos Says:

We lost JPP already. Get Suh

  56. Sumosam Says:

Suh is wealthy, very wealthy. He isn’t going to play for anything but top dollar. That is why he’s not on a roster but he can still play. That’s for sure.

  57. #8 Says:

Someone send him a twit of this link. He’ll feel obligated to suit up for the last 6-7 games or so for a modest sum.
I’d do it, but I do not do the socials. LinkedIn only for me.
    Suh.

  61. steele Says:

I don’t trust Hall to play like a legit starter. Even if he does, they need depth especially with everyone going out with hammies and worse on a weekly basis.
Suh, Sheldon Richardson, or anyone willing to sign a one-year for a reasonable price.

Make some room, Licht. (Unless, of course, this is as non- all-in as I think it is.)

  62. Capt.Tim Says:

  63. Bucschamp Says:

Logan Hall is big but lacks technique. He got power but he’s still learning. Once he develops he will have more impact than JTS

  64. Browsing from DC Says:

I think Hall will do a great job.

As for Suh, as injuries are pulling up around the league, there are reportedly several teams showing some interest, the Bucs among them (if you believe NFL.com). I think the Bucs have an edge for several reasons:
Cap space, he knows the system, no state income taxes and almost guaranteed playoff money. 3 mil plus incentives? He already got to skip training camp and pre-season and I doubt he’ll get a better offer from a legit playoff team.

Suh will be playing somewhere in 2 weeks I’d bet
