Elite Devin White

September 12th, 2022

Excellent game.

Yeah, Joe wrote about this last night, but it was so good to see it bears repeating: Devin White was fantastic against the Cowboys.

Joe has written more than once during the offseason that it would really help the Bucs defense if White, the fourth-year linebacker from LSU, returned to his 2020 postseason form when White was a true animal.

It was the best three-game stretch of his career and he played like a linebacker possessed. Joe isn’t sure the Bucs win the Super Bowl without White’s stellar play.

The way White was all over the field last night, did he not look like the same player from the 2020 postseason? It was impressive. White had two sacks, seven tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and a pass defended.

That’s a full night’s work!

One reason, one big reason, why the Bucs nearly choked out the Cowboys was White’s play at linebacker. If last night was a taste of what White will be this year, folks are not going to want to play the Bucs. That’s just how it works.

I was happy to see LD get a lot of love from the play by play crew also

  2. SB~LV Says:

    Keep it up DW

  3. SB Says:

I am confused Joe. Two articles say that he had two sacks but one article says he has no sacks.
“The official gamebook has Shaq with no sacks. Yeah, that stinks. However, Shaq had seven quarterback pressures, per Laine. That’s a whole bunch.

I like it. I love it. I want some more of it. The table has been set for you young stud. Feast DW45
    Go Bucs!

He was solid in coverage. Had a dropped pick 6, and another near pick early. I was overall a little disappointed in run d, they had holes most of the game.

    Devin White played controlled……played better.

I was particularly impressed with out discipline last night….only 5 penalties & all only 5 yards……..

Carlton Davis was an absolute beast…….played superb….

This article is about Devin White, not Shaq.

  8. Bucs Win Says:

Agreed Joe. He might even get to double digit sacks. If he just could have squeezed that ball he would have added a pick 6. Love D White and he will ball out this year.

They played well! I am a little concerned about run defense, but other than that it was a really great first game.

White was exceptional last night, but then again, I thought the whole D played great. A lot of passes defensed, an interception, and good tackling. That attention to good tackling technique during training camp must have payed off. Even the ST players were tackling machines.

Run defense will improve once Logan Hall learns how to use his speed to get into
the gaps. He has the tools. JTS was getting double teamed on some pass rushes. He is improved but still looks like he is playing too upright. Kid needs to get more bend when coming around the edge. He is pushing his blockers more than he did last year but still has a way to go.

Winfield, Davis and Dean were outstanding last night. Michael Thomas was roasting one on one’s later in the game but Dean and Davis are pretty physical corners. Thomas will get his catches but as long as Kamara is spotted by LVD coming out of the backfield and the Bucs frustrate Winston, I don’t think New Orleans defense will intimidate the Bucs. Hansey and Godeke may not be as good as pass blocking as Marpet and Jensen but they did a great job at run blocking. I think until the passing game gets on sync, running the ball will be a big part of the Bucs offense.

Brady was very amped up last night, he was putting too much zip on the ball and there were some really high throws that were uncatchable. Once he settles down those throws will be chunk throws.

  12. Browsing from DC Says:

He was awesome last night. Same could be said for many others on the D too! He was super-engaged and alert last night. Add that to his speed, instincts and natural athletic ability and it’s going to be a long year for opposing offenses. Being only the first game one can imagine how great this D will be by mid-season. LFG!!!

  13. TJ Says:

Dominant start! Our D exceeded my expectations. Hats off to everyone. It’s was a great start to the season but left a lil something still to build on. A little surprising that Zeke had some holes to run through but our D dominated and controlled every aspect of that game. It definitely had the vibe of the SB game and we can use that D holding down the fort while the Offense gets healthier.

And you guys where talking trash about white. Give the man time. Hes young

    C. Davis prove me wrong and safeties. Both played great with a minimal cowboys WR group.

  15. Buczilla Says:

White was a blast to watch last night. His only issue has been consistency and if he can get over that hurdle, then he’s on his way to the hall of fame.

  16. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Hats off to the Joes for recognizing DW’s performance last night (Lavonte as well). Some of us, myself included, have been critical of the shade thrown at Devin, particularly by LDK. But let it never be said when the player performs he will be praised with the same level of passion, as was used when being critical of them.

Could this raised level of play be due to the fact Devin isn’t having to cover for a sub-par JPP? Hard to have an opinion on the largest over-reaction Monday of the year.
