Yeah, Chris Godwin Is Back On The Field; No, He’s Not Ready To Practice Full-Speed.

August 6th, 2022

Cautiously optimistic.

It was heartening to see Bucs star receiver Chris Godwin back on the practice field yesterday for the first time since he blew out his knee in December against the slimy Saints.

But Godwin did not participate in any part of the practice that represented contact. Despite wearing his padded practice uniform, it was just drills and routes without defense for Godwin. Speaking after practice yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles believes it is still premature to expect Godwin to practice full-throttle.

“I saw him doing individual [drills],” Bowles said of what Godwin did at practice Thursday morning. “He’s running around. That’s a whole different thing than playing football.

“Running around is a whole different thing. So, we don’t have our hopes up – we’re just happy he’s making progress.”

To hear Bowles, Godwin getting on the practice field was just one step in his rehab progress. Bowles seemed to be suggesting to fans to tap the brakes on Godwin playing Week 1 at Dallas.

Still, it was great to see Godwin out there, especially after Booger McFarland, the BSPN analyst and former Buccaneer, claimed in April that Godwin would not return before Thanksgiving. Right now that prediction seems way, way offbase.

As Joe stated yesterday, if Godwin is 100 percent for Week 5, Joe’s good with it.

I’d also be happy with week 5……but I think he’ll be ready before then.

Great to see him at practice….

Take It easy, take it easy
Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
    Don’t even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand and take it easy

I dislike the Eagles aside from that song.

Booger seemed way off base back in April. Of course he seems off base in August!

Jackson Browne wrote 99 percent of “Take it Easy.” Glenn Frey added the Winslow, Arizona line and that was about it.
