“This Is A Completely Different Team, Potentially”

August 19th, 2022

Things could get ugly.

Is it too early to grab a bottle?

So last night Joe was watching a video from “Prime Time Action” seen exclusively on VSiN. The show was talkin’ Bucs with NBC Sports Edge handicapper Drew Dinsick as a guest. To hear Disnick speak, he really, really does not like the vibes coming out of Bucs folks these days.

If fact, Disnick, who confessed he was trying to not overreact, seemed to wonder if the Bucs were on the verge of circling the drain and falling backward into the abyss previously known as the “Lost Decade.”

Here is a rundown from Disnick of the items that has him hitting the Bucs brakes as of Aug. 19.

* Mike Evans is hurt.
* Chris Godwin may not be back by Week 1.
* Russell Gage is hurt.
* Tristan Wirfs is hurt.
* Ryan Jensen is hurt.
* Ali Marpet has yet to be replaced.
* Tom Brady is MIA and who knows when or if he will be back?

So of the 11 projected offensive starters, six are sidelined and a seventh is a wild card unknown.

Disnick believes with all of these injuries and questions, the Bucs could be on the verge of disaster.

“This is a completely different team, potentially,” Disnick said.

And Disnick added the following which doesn’t help the blood pressure of Bucs fans: The Bucs have a really tough first four games. Disnick said if the Bucs were perfectly healthy and Brady was practicing, he would call those four games a “coinflip” for the Bucs.

Disnick said the season could get away from the Bucs really fast if they aren’t careful. And facing a good pass-rushing team like Dallas with a makeshift offensive line and an old man of a quarterback (if he shows up) is not an ideal situation.

If Brady really cared, he would be back already.

  6. Casual Observer Says:

Is that picture of our new OL backup? Good signing. Scary.

  7. Drebucsfan Says:

@ZZBUC bra you preaching today! Say it louder for the people in the back lol everything will be fine. Remember the goal is to get to the dance(playoffs) i would love a nice record but with a healthy team clicking on all cylinders come playoffs we may be the most battled tested scariest team in the league…everyone will be back soon and Tom will save the day..if we have any worries it should be the secondary and center…those guys are getting crushed in Tennessee

  8. allen Lofton Says:

why is it that sports writers look for the worst-case scenario – are they too lazy to write something that takes effort – people are sick of all the negativity from them – get off your ass and look for something to write about and set yourself apartfrom all the nay Sayers.

  9. Anonymous Says:

Tell us something we don’t know

  10. Joe Says:

why is it that sports writers look for the worst-case scenario

Because sportswriters generally live in reality. If you look at things from the best-case scenario, that is hope and hope is an evil, empty word.

Best-case scenario also means perfection. How often do you see perfection not on Instagram?

    are they too lazy

The laziest thing is to bury your head in the sand and ignore the obvioius.

  11. Greg G Says:

Drew Dis…who? VSi…what? It’s cute that they think they are pretending to be relevant enough to qualify for having a “Prime Time Action” segment.

Alarmism for the sake of it. ME hurt? Really? CG not playing week 1? REALLY? A month ago we were citing Booger’s post Thanksgiving prognosis (chucklehead). Gage Hurt? Really?

Still, Joe, thanks for sharing. You guys always find those nuggets out there that most of us miss! This one seemed like a pretty deep dive. Lol.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Stop with the nonsense that Brady won’t come back…

Do you really think Brady would end his career by quitting on a team right before the season begins…….that would be a disaster for him going forward.
His entire career would be marred by how it ended…..

    Pure nonsense!!!

  13. Nutterbutter95 Says:

It is week 2 of preseason. We still have three weeks before the start of the season. All these players do not need these games and joint practices. If this was Dallas week and guys are still sidelined, then yes concern away!! But in week 2 of preseason, teams are using an abundance of caution with the high end assets. If this was the regular season, everyone minus Jensen and maybe Godwin would be practicing.

  14. Bird Says:

Why are you putting up scary halloween pics in August?

“Look at the size of that cranium. Its like sputnick. Its got its own weather system. “

  15. Bird Says:

But i thought the pass blocking oline was nothing to worry about 😂

  16. KoKiefer Says:

… and if the regular season was tomorrow. Most of these guys would be there. No denying the team is fighting injuries but most of the hold outs are from an abundance of caution. The team vied for a more physical training camp.. name another team that has had 2 joint practices with other teams. A couple guys will inevitably go down, but everyone else is getting better right now. I am not worried unless a headline reads “Brady Retires”, which i would bet money will not happen. Reeeeeeeeeelax.

  17. #99 Says:

Always Doom and gloom with the media.

  18. Smashsquatch Says:

Bucs were 7-5 at the break, with an immobile QB, and circling the drain in 2020. Three months later they almost tossed the Lombardi trophy into the Hillsborough River. It’s all about how you finish. I’ll start worrying about their chances if they look bad in Cleveland after Thanksgiving break. In the meantime, I’ll continue to soak in the bath of relevance Brady has poured for all of us.

  19. tampafishman Says:

We didn’t win the SB with Brady last season and we’re not winnning the SB with or without Brady this season. It’s time to move on and rebuild.

  20. James G Arntz Says:

Looking like a 10 game win season will be a reach.

  21. Beeej Says:

Bunch of nattering nabobs of negativism up in here

  22. ElioT Says:

I don’t think it’s time to panic but I will say this… This is NOT an ideal situation to be in for the Bucs.

    And…

**Don’t count your chickens before they hatch

  24. Ash Says:

It’s the second preseason game and I guess the season is over already lol so silly

  25. ModHairKen Says:

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

God Bless America, this team is going to be just fine.

Stop speculating about people. Stop working worst case scenarios. Stop fretting.

I’d hate to sit next to some of you on an airplane. Take a Xanax!

  26. Craig Says:

We are still in an awful division, so even Trask and the kids could probably get a division championship.

By the playoffs this be an again different team, they always are.

  27. PassingThru Says:

I just don’t understand why the front office isn’t moving on JC Tretter. He’s one of the best Centers in the league and available as a free agent. And spare me the “He’s from a zone blocking scheme.” I introduced that reservation to be balanced, as it was Hainsey’s sole advantage. Zone vs. Gap or Duo is meaningless if the Center is a turnstile.

  28. Kentucky Buc Says:

Full blown soap opera. As the Pot Stirreth.

  29. ZZBUC Says:

@Drebucsfan….you are the man bro!!!! Agree 100% with you!!!!

I just don’t understand why the front office isn’t moving on JC Tretter. He’s one of the best Centers in the league and available as a free agent.

Because maybe the Buc’s and the other teams do not value him as much as you do or PFF does. I got to say, out of all the positions, I never watch center play.

To your point, if the center is a turn style all the time, I would notice. I am trying to remember the last time (and as bad as the Bucs have been through the years) that I remember them having a center that was blown up all the time.

  36. Listnfrmafar Says:

What is with this training and conditioning staff. I got one world for you STRETCHING!!! Obviously the players aren’t doing it right. Flashback 2021.

  37. NCBucfan Says:

So there is a possibility of Josh wells playing RT and Gabbert being QB1 against Dallas. Perfect!!

  38. Alanbucsfan Says:

Just from a strictly business standpoint, and the fact that the Bucs v Cowboys game will be among the highest ratings of all time, barring a family emergency, there is No Way Brady misses the season opener.
Imagine this was LeBron James or Steph Curry missing 2 weeks of NBA exhibition games – would anyone care?
And furthermore, Evans, Cage and likely Wirfs will be in Dallas ready to go.

  39. Jeff Says:

And NO TOM BRADY! He’s done, folks! It’s over.

  40. mark2001 Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Shaq sounded yesterday like Suh couldn’t move much anymore, with his talk about now being able to run stunts and other games with Hicks now. He might make a fine Nose Tackle. But isn’t Vea pretty much the best in the league at that position already?

  41. RPK Says:

Nobody is pushing the TB12 is about to quit theory more than JoeBucsFan.

    Why?

Clicks or does Joe know something we don’t?

Based off JBF’s recent failed predictions, including the draft, I would side with clicks.

    I hope I’m right lol.

  42. PassingThru Says:

    @geno711

Even if you choose to ignore PFF grades, use your eyes, do some homework. JC Tretter has been almost considered by others to be one of the best Centers in the league. He has missed only one start the past 5 seasons. He gave up only 1 sack last season. Hainsey can’t even get through a practice without surrendering a sack.

  43. CrackWise Says:

    mark2001,
Your wrong, there, you have been corrected. Sorry, I didn’t read past that.

  44. DoooshLaRue Says:

Because sportswriters generally live in reality. –Joe

I guess you never read Larry Guest or Jerry Greene here in Orlando. Or Brian Schmitz (who was nearly unreadable) either.

  46. SKBucsFan Says:

Relax. We have a stable of receivers and TB12. All is good. Am more concerned that the Bucs make the playoffs with a healthy roster. The pre-season is too early to worry

  47. Jerry Says:

An 0-4 start is very conceivable. And at that point, the wheels will start coming off.

  48. DBS Says:

Jeff. When Brady comes back next week and makes a fool out of you? Hope you are done and disappear!

  49. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Is that the picture of the new Bucs nutritionist…… no wonder everybody is getting hurt.

  50. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Passingthru. Check out Mark Schofield’s film review article on Tretter. It goes into detail how Tretter is a good fit for the Bucs. Don’t buy all this he doesn’t fit the scheme BS that’s been pushed by the local media. Tretter is good in duo and zone. I wouldn’t mind if we did more zone blocking. Hainsey has it a lot easier than most centers. Brady handles all of the protection calls, so he doesn’t have that job on his plate. He might be smart and a hard worker, but the guy can’t block well consistently. The North Korea like propaganda being spewed about how he has all these good reps is sickening.

  51. Joe Says:

I guess you never read Larry Guest or Jerry Greene here in Orlando.

    Nope.

Only Jerry Green that Joe is aware of is a guy who covered the Lions for the Detroit Free Press for like 50 years. (Only sportswriter who has covered every Super Bowl.)

  52. Goatfarmer Says:

Doosh and Passing – you both owe me a Bloody Mary. I spewed while laughing at both comments. Thanks.

Seriously Joes – anyone but Rosie! I keep going back to it like a moth to a flame. Hey – can she play center?

  53. BucU Says:

Hey Brady? How bout putting this firestorm media frenzy to rest by simply texting your return date to Licht. That might take all of 20 seconds.
You have the Bucs front office looking like idiots here.

  54. Joe Says:

Hey Brady? How bout putting this firestorm media frenzy to rest by simply texting your return date to Licht.

All Brady has to do — or one of his social media flunkies — is type three words and hit “send” on either Twitter or Instagram.

    “I shall return.”

    or

    “I’ll be back.”

  55. DBS Says:

He doesn’t have to do anything. He answers to the owners of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Media can think what ever they want. They do not own the rights to Tom Brady.

  56. Alvafan Says:

“Disnick said the season could get away from the Bucs really fast if they aren’t careful. And facing a good pass-rushing team like Dallas with a makeshift offensive line and an old man of a quarterback (if he shows up) is not an ideal situation.”

With the brutal schedule we are facing this year, these early season questions better be answered quickly or Disnick will be right about the season going south early

  57. mark2001 Says:

DBS… agreed. We fans are antsy. But really, nothing is ever certain until the time runs out in the last game of the year. So though it is rightfully so, the number one question for us this off season, it really is the Glazer’s, Brady, and the upper echelon coaches that are on the “need to know” level.

  58. Red86 Says:

“Calm down Betty White. Have a Snicker!” commercial comes to mind.

    Everything will work out fine.

  59. Marine Buc Says:

    It’s always darkest before dawn…

Injuries happen. That is why it is important to draft well and build a complete roster from top to bottom.

    The Bucs will be fine.

  60. PassingThru Says:

    Thanks Bucsfan13, will do.

  61. Ed Says:

Worst case scenario is the Bucs don’t get their offensive line giving Brady the protection to go deep. His quick release is still there. Godwin and Gage can get open quickly, as well as White or Fournette out of the backfield.

So at worse BL changes the offense to more short stuff and chain moving plays to not expose the center/guard weakness. There is still plenty of firepower on this offense that even with a lesser center/guard you can still scheme into different sets to get the ball out quickly to playmakers.

Also a best case scenario is that the defense is better this season. No major injuries in the DB, more pass rush from Hall than JPP and better season from Devin White.

This is still a loaded team that just needs to play to its strengths and cover up its weaknesses.

  62. DoooshLaRue Says:

    GoatFarmer,

    Sorry bout that man.
    😀

Wouldn’t a Bloody Rosie be way more satisfying?

  63. HC Grover Says:

Outlook not so good. We could end up like the Bowles Jets.

  64. Buc1987 Says:

    PassingThru…why is Tretter still unemployed?

  65. BucU Says:

Could this start to the 2022 season be any worse for the Bucs? I don’t think so. It’s been one thing after another from day 2.

  66. Goatfarmer Says:

Doosh — the problem with the Bloody Rosie is it tastes like sardines, with hair in it.

  67. PassingThru Says:

    @Buc1987

It has been speculated that Tretter, as President of the NFLPA, is being blackballed by the owners for being outspoken on player safety.

  70. sasquatch Says:

Oh, the cult of agent orange still has a thing for Rosie. Classy.

  71. Aceofaerospace Says:

Brady will be back as soon as he finishes filming The Masked Singer. BTW, Joe, thanks for ruining my lunch with that picture.

  72. HC Grover Says:

Oh well we will find the truth soon in Dallas. Happy trails til then I guess.

  73. Buczilla Says:

Other than Brady f’ing off, doing only the gods know what, and our overrated corners getting nuked in the first four games by these killer qb’s, I love our chances at going 3-1 to start the season.

Rosie makes your normal, run of the mill whackjob look sane by comparison. Nice picture. 😜

  74. DoooshLaRue Says:

You don’t have to be a fan of the Mean Twitter to know that Rosie is as nasty as they come.

    Carry on SJWs!

  75. DoooshLaRue Says:

    *Tweeter!

  76. Joe Says:

It has been speculated that Tretter, as President of the NFLPA, is being blackballed by the owners for being outspoken on player safety.

The Steelers hired a DC who sued the league for discrimination. Browns are down two centers and JC Tretter is still out there. This isn’t difficult to figure out.

  77. Buccsfanchad Says:

Joe, at least share your favorite Rosie photo from your collection. The leather nighty pic from Exit to Eden! So hot!!!!!

  78. RPK Says:

Bucs HC Todd Bowles: ‘I know exactly when Tom (Brady) is coming back’

  79. Chris Tucker@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Speaking about Brady, I read that Brady may be on that show “The Masked Singer” and before everyone laughs, remember that Gronk was on that show.
This writer feels that Brady agreed before the season started to be on the show, and the Bucs are well aware of where he is.
Not saying I agree with this, just wanted to pass this on, in case some did not read it.

  80. Scooter Says:

Gazed at Rosie and my eyeglass lens cracked.

  81. jb Says:

  83. Oddball Says:

That’s it man, game over man, game over! What the f@&$ are we gonna do now?!

  84. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe

If Mike Tomlin needed JC Tretter, the Rooney family would get it done. In the case of Flo getting hired, the Rooney family has also been the most outspoken and progressive in terms of giving minorities better representation in coaching positions. Those factors are not hard to figure out.

  85. Joe Says:

    Passing:

You are saying Tretter is blackballed by the league because of his union stances. Once again, Brian Flores has sued the league and is currently in litigation with the league. If Tretter is blackballed by the league for being outspoken, a guy who is suing the league for millions s a far greater sin to the league. If Tretter is truly blackballed, so too would Flores. (The Rooneys still have to answer to Goodell.)

  86. Goatfarmer Says:

Yeah, well, all that said — and with Buc injuries piling up like dead fish on the beach after a red tide — sign Tretter now.

  87. Goatfarmer Says:

I just watched the Rams. If Stafford goes down, they are beyond dead. Their two backup stiffs make our crew of backup bozos look like Marino and Montana. And Stafford is older, not on the Brady regimen and nursing an elbow injury. Not great for a QB who slings it deep for his bread.

  88. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe

Not all blackballing has to be formalized, and in fact that is what got Peter Ueberroth and MLB into trouble. Even in the case of Flo, it appears that the only evidence to throw games was generated as memos confirming conversations, which in turn were likely greeted with silence. In a league-wide blackballing, I would surmise that the old proverb, “a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse” applies. Player safety at time present is both unsolvable and threatening to revenue streams. While it would not invite repercussions if Tretter or Flo were signed, it is simply understood that it is an undesirable step, one that could isolate the offending owner.

  89. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Joe, my dear late MIL (huge Bucs fan) and I would beat Jerry Greene a lot in the weekly football picks. That Slantinel bunch always badmouthed the Bucs. Sure, thems was the TB Culverhouse Dark Ages, but, c’mon, man! Believe me, you didn’t miss anything.

  90. George Says:

After Brady not returning,The biggest issue this team has is the weak offensive line. Need to step up and sign JC Tretter , then rotate Hainsey , Leverett and Stinnie at left guard .

If they can get the offensive line fixed, the team can still possibly win the divisible with Gabbert.
