“It’s The Worst”

August 1st, 2022

Carlton Davis talks Rams, Saints’ jibber-jabber, and getting picked on.

The forgotten first-half gaffe of the Bucs-Rams playoff game is one that Carlton Davis hasn’t forgotten, even if most Tampa Bay fans have.

The Bucs’ big-money cornerback was asked about the pain of the Rams loss on WDAE radio.

“It still hurts, you know. … That repeat was everything that we wanted. It was history in the making,” Davis said.

He also dove into how close the Bucs were in the game and noted that he still “has a chip on my shoulder” about the final-seconds loss.

As for the play most frustrating in that historic loss, Davis didn’t point to the infamous deep-shot completion to Cooper Kupp, who blew past Antoine Winfield, Jr. with seconds remaining. Instead, Davis went to the busted coverage in the first half, with Kupp wide open behind Davis on a 3rd-and-20 play.

That’s right — 3rd-and-20. (Here’s the link.)

“That just hurt us because it was uncalled for and unnecessary,” Davis said of the play. “But that’s neither here or there, it’s in the past. I’m just trying to get back to it.”

Confident as ever, Davis acknowledged that he feels great and loved how he was flying around at today’s practice. He also said “it’s the worst” how much he gets heckled by teammates and his position coach when it comes to all of the interceptions he didn’t catch last season.

Yes, Davis said he has the Rams circled on his proverbial calendar and he can’t wait to face the Cowboys because they like to the throw the ball.

As for all the trash-talking coming from New Orleans, Davis said that’s typical Saints. “That’s what they do. All that jibber-jabber.”

    Walk the walk. Don’t talk.
They will shut up once you are laying the wood.

  2. University of Seffner Says:

I can’t stand the Saints and their fans.

  3. GOB Says:

Davis passed off Cupp to Winfield. I think it’s a big reason he isn’t here anymore. Nobody got a freaking hand on the guy. They should feel like crap about it. That being said, the bucs shouldn’t have even had a chance at the end. If you’re using the final score as a barometer of where the bucs stand, you’re crazy. As for the chip on the shoulder thing, forget about it. The Rams Bucs rivalry is starting to look like the old cowboys 9ers in the 90s.

  4. University of Seffner Says:

As far as the Rams, didn’t have an issue with their fans for the Playoff Game in January.

  5. GOB Says:

For all you young pups, the cowboys kicked the 49ers collective asses, until Emmitt Smith’s hamstring gave out.

  6. GOB Says:

Rams fans? Do they even exist?

    Where are the practice notes?

Slant boy should be healthy for CD this season, it’ll be interesting to see that matchup again

The Secondary either steps up or NO Super Bowl Title in Feb 2023, simple as that.

Glad to see Carlton is being real, that’s the only way to get better.

Be honest and assess and apply and grow, and repeat daily.

Make no excuses, refreshing to hear from CD

2nd place is the first loser.

Average is the Enemy of Excellence.

    Make no excuses!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

Pass defensive coaching was the Achilles heel last season. Bucs have the players. No way Belichick is letting Kupp run down the field like that.

  13. Goatfarmer Says:

Todd runs non contact practices that are apparently contact, and now runs padded practice non contact.

    BA, we miss you man.

Forget the first half. The last quarter of the game is what needs to burn painfully for this defense, which squandered one of the greatest comebacks ever. Shameful performance.

  15. Ed Says:

Defense definitely has to get back to the level they had during the 2020 playoff/SB run. Pass rush and secondary coverage were both lacking last year. With the brutal schedule, they can’t expect to outscore the opponents every week.
