“A Great Changeup”

August 18th, 2022

Shaq Barrett talks moves.

The Titans ‘ three-time Pro Bowl left tackle was appreciative and exasperated at the same time after practice yesterday.

Taylor Lewan was on the subject of Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett in Tennessee.

Lewan was very happy to get work against Shaq in the joint practice session, but he didn’t like the results. Lewan said he lost to Shaq in 1-on-1 drills and called Shaq “a great changeup” as a pass rusher.

“Shaq is a stud,” Lewan said of Shaq’s array of moves.

Joe had a discussion with Shaq about his moves and he’s happy to open up the arsenal when he’s not working against Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs. Shaq said his “second-nature moves” don’t work against Wirfs and it’s forced him to work more on his “long-arm and power rushes” to become a more complete rusher.

But practicing against the Titans this week is a time for Shaq to open up the playbook — and hopefully flex afterwards.

“So I was able to pull out more moves today and be successful with them,” Shaq said.

Shaq talked to Joe about pass rusher camps like Von Miller’s (Shaq hasn’t attended in several years), and the Bucs sacks king noted it’s hard for him to consider himself a teacher because he thinks of himself as a young player still learning.

That’s a heck of an attitude for the two-time Pro Bowler who turns 30 in November.

But Shaq said he’s usually happy to teach players around the NFL. They often want the secrets to his bull rush set up off his two-arm move, Shaq said, “and my double swipe.”

If Hicks can stay healthy, say 75% of the year. Shaquille will get 15-20 sacks, book it!

This is what makes Shaq special. He doesn’t really look like an athlete. He’ doesn’t have blazing quickness or other world strength. But he’s got a helluva first step and has been working at the art of pass rush moves for many years. Love this guy’s approach to the game and so glad he’s a Buc.

    Suh.

    Shaq agrees.

Another nod to Wirfs. Some of Shaq’s moves don’t work on Wirfs but work on other tackles. Love Shaq. Love Wirfs even more.

8, at this point when I see you say Suh I’m assuming you are sneezing. And you sneeze a lot. Hope you recover.

I agree with @NCBucfan about Shaq.
If Hicks can stay healthy this year, Shaq will get a lot more sacks.
This is because of the inside pressure Hicks will provode.

That said, I just wanted to say thank you to Lee and Steve for providing all this news about the Bucs!
I also urge both of them if exploring that Nashville Fried Chicken, be careful, because that Chicken is Hot, and I mean really Hot!

Kind of waiting to see how the move back over LTs on the right side of our DL works for Barrett, some QBs won’t see him coming

    @christucker,

Lol at the Nashville Fried Chicken there. Delicious, but yes, can catch up to you in a hurry!

I’m just glad Barrett and White are talking about making improvements, and getting better. Last year they were both talking about being Dpoy. Just focus on improving and let the awards take care of themselves.

As a Bucs fan, I got to say we went from a being a highly skeptical fan base to a way too over the top positive one because of one Super Bowl win.

First of all Shaq Barrett is just simply not the player they paid for. They wasted their money on him when they could have paid a comparable player in free agency. And I knew that would happen in the bs excuse to keep the same exact team together. He had one great season and is a flash in the pan.

And second, this team is not winning a Super Bowl this season.

They simply are too banged up and have too many new players (not to mention a new head coach with an unproven record so far) who are not anywhere a good as Antonio Brown to be on the same page in time to make it work. The reason the Bucs won, was because they had a focused AB.

And BA let the team become distracted and the entire thing unraveled right in front of our faces when AB went back to being the old cray-cray AB. I was never a BA fan, and never will be. He is not a great NFL coach.

Never forget, this is the same organization led by pretty much the same people that never won anything before (from the owners, the GM, the coaches and on down to players such as Mike Evans and Lavonte David.) Tom Brady came here. And now that Tom Brady does not really even care enough to be with the team in preseason, to get ready for the season, to help mold these new and young players in time to be ready for the season, you can bet your bottom dollar that this bullsh*t they are doing right now will not work.
