When Tom Brady Runs, It Pretty Much Means A First Down

July 16th, 2022

First down machine.

Bucs stud receiver Mike Evans is a chain-mover. So too is Chris Godwin.

And, you can add Tom Brady to the mix.

No, Brady is not a pretty runner. He sure isn’t fast. But when he runs, especially in short-yardage situations, he’s just about guaranteed a first down.

Now granted, the following is a bit of statistical hopscotch, but you get the idea. When Brady runs, a first down follows.

So in close games, 102 rushing attempts and 95 first downs? That is damn near as automatic as it gets.

And with Ryan Jensen and Shaq Mason and Tristan Wirfs on the right side moving bodies, Joe can understand why Brady might want to plunge ahead there on a quarterback sneak.

And watch all the butts pucker.

  2. SB Says:

When you can read defenses like he can, I understand why.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

    SB – Excellent point.

  4. Bird Says:

He runs like a baby giraffe

    Sb – good point

And he also says he relentless diet and workout regimen has helped his mobility/ athleticism as well. Alex prolly got his 40 time down a half second and vert up an inch or two. πŸ˜‚

Wait until Brady runs to Miami next year.

How many of them are QB’ s sneak!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Yea but it sure is scary sometimes……don’t mind the sneaks….but the runs….scary.

  10. Beeej Says:

There was one game last year where he led the team in rushing (lol, 11 yards)

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

No one expects him to run (minus the sneaks) so he has the element of surprise going for him.

  12. GOB Says:

Defenses have a tendency to bail on him. Especially if it’s man coverage. He didn’t do it so much the last couple years with the Patriots. I think the knee had a lot to do with it. Brady is one of the best QB sneakers of all time.

  13. Eddie Marz Says:

SB is correct. Brady picks his spots. Only when it’s to his advantage does he run. Smart player, that’s why he’s a winner. Always looking for that edge. GOBUCS!
