No Play, All Work For Lavonte David

July 27th, 2022

Rough offseason for Lavonte David, who was all smiles today.

Joe absolutely was fired up to see No. 54 literally flying around the practice field today.

What a sight to behold after watching Lavonte David struggle with injuries last season, and through this offseason.

David stunned Joe when he said back in April that he hoped his bad foot would be ready for training camp. That was the same linebacker who returned for the playoffs in January. Three months and David felt he still might need another 3 1/2 months to be ready for training camp? Scary talk.

But today was the proof. David was quick, and as Joe noted in the practice notes (see home page), David didn’t falter. He had great coverage in the final series of practice on shifty new receiver Russell Gage.

Those who listen to the Ira Kaufman Podcast weeks ago learned that David tweaked his training approach a bit this offseason via an assist from Buccaneers legend Derrick Brooks. And Joe can’t wait to see how that pays off in 2022.

Speaking to media today, David explained that his foot repair was a long road that required sacrifice.

“That’s all I worked on [this offseason], is just physical therapy on my foot. Couldn’t really take no trips, no vacations,” David explained. “I had to focus on my foot so I could be able to get back here and be with my guys.”

Sage Ira asked David to put a number on his foot health. With authority, he replied “100” and later said. “I’m 100 percent, man, ready to go.”

Man that would be sweet to have David back to his old self. Such an animal. Def wasn’t himself last year.

Gotta love David man. Had a bunch of time to do whatever he wanted older dude already has a ring. My man just stays getting his body right !
This team is full of selfless guys.

A great player for this team. Totally underappreciated league-wide. Hope he has a great year. Would be great for him to be a Buc for Life and stay in the community after he retires.

  4. Thomas Edrington Says:

Would love to see this team stay healthy this season, came oh so close with so so many injuries last season…..most important thing is to keep No. 12 upright!

I firmly believe the fate of this team relies on the defense, and the fate of the defense relies on the two ILB’s.

I bought 3 of the new jerseys all authentic. I bought Brooks, Nickerson( personal favorite changed team attitude) and David. I just realized they are all linebackers 😆 I had to personalize the Nickerson hopefully we don’t
    Have to anymore

  15. PassingThru Says:

This is easily the best news from Day 1.

  16. Dooley Says:

    @DrunkInYbor

Nice, I followed Hardy Nickerson to the Bucs after he left Pittsburgh. Nickerson & Levon Kirkland were my favorite on those Steelers defenses, Greg Lloyd too

    Yeah, I agree.

Though I’m hoping the starters won’t be in for long in the first preseason game. Of course, with Brady…you never know.

    Plus Byron as HC.

  18. Goatfarmer Says:

This is farging HUGE. LVD at 100% can enable DW to beast out more. But, the two are backed by Jiminy and Cricket. Don’t get injured, lads.

Slow and steady LD54…long season! Glad you’re back … just stay healthy 🙂
