“Chris Has Been Working Like Crazy”

July 27th, 2022

Getting closer.

It’s not about “if” when it comes to Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin, it’s about “when.” And that’s fantastic news for a guy less than seven months removed from major knee surgery.

The Bucs didn’t put Godwin on the “physically unable to perform” list to start training camp, which would have given the club an extra roster spot to study a young player. But they passed on that, which is a tipoff that Godwin’s return is near. Teams covet those summer roster spots, so not shelving Godwin (even for a few days) is significant.

Todd Bowles was asked about Godwin today and referenced the “when” with authority despite not giving a date for Godwin’s return.

“Chris has been working like crazy,” Bowles said. “He’s getting better every day. We don’t have timetable yet, but when he comes out, we’ll be happy to have him.”

Bowles went on to day the Bucs are “pleased” with where Godwin is.in his recovery. Joe talked today to a Bucs official off the record about Godwin and it sounds like everything is great behind the scenes with a goal of having Godwn ready for Week 1, but the Bucs won’t push or overwork him under any circumstances.

    Good for him!
I hope he has a successful recovery, modern medicine is absolutely amazing!

  2. MadMax Says:

Go slow on him Bucs, please!

1-3, maybe 2-4 these first 4 games….lets figure everything out, then we’ll start clicking and firing on all cylinders. Tough competition at first makes it easier to handle the mediocre stuff later….we work into our groove, we’re on our roll…Superbowl!

I wouldn’t expect to much too soon from Godwin. If they can get him to 80-85% by late November, that’s about all you can hope for. He’ll need time to get accustomed to that clunky brace also. It’s almost always into year two post surgery, before you get anywhere near full range of motion. Hopefully they take it slow, no matter the record.

I sure hope they don’t push him to play Too Soon –as arians did with Gronk when he put him in the 1st game against slimys last season…

  6. Brandon Says:

All these certified physicians and their free medical opinions chiming in here. We’re so lucky.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

Yeah, but what does Dr. Booger have to say?

  8. Dean Giusti Says:

CG is invaluable to the success of this team. Period.

  9. Maniac Buc Says:

80-85% by November??? He wouldn’t be cleared if he wasn’t already above 80-85%

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Sounds like a good win for the team.

  11. ATLBuc Says:

Godwin has probably been working with Tom Brady’s trainer, Alex Gurerra. Julio too

Coming back too soon just reminds me of Cadillac Williams and that terrible second ACL tear . He was playing so great and then that game against the Panthers he runs almost for the TD on a long run and his knee just blew out when he was cutting up the sideline. I think I shed a tear for him when it happened. That’s all I can think about with Godwin coming back too soon. But I guess “Modern Medicine” has come a long way since then. We will see. Go Bucs and Chris Godwin !
