“It Shouldn’t Be Anything Serious For Training Camp”

May 25th, 2022

Injuries mean little in May, but sometimes they end up meaning a lot.

Newcomer free agent receiver Russell Gage is injured, head coach Todd Bowles revealed at One Buc Palace today. Gage got a three-year, $30 million deal from the Bucs in March to bolster their receiving corps with Chris Godwin recovering from major knee surgery (ACL).

Gage didn’t practice today and apparently hasn’t in the first four OTA practices of the spring.

Bowles said Gage is sore but did not reveal his injury. “It shouldn’t be anything serious for training camp,” Bowles said.

Joe would sleep better tonight if Bowles had said something like, “It’s just day-to-day or week-to-week thing. No big deal.”

Hard to know the extent of the injury when the Gage is broken.

  2. GOB Says:

Gage was signed, at least in part, as an early season replacement for Godwin. Put him on a shelf until training camp. Still plenty of time to develop chemistry with Brady. I think they are very thin at reciever this year, as opposed to the past two. I can’t understand why they didn’t go get Jarvis Landry. As the bucs found out last year, you can never have enough talented pass catchers.

  3. Biff Barker Says:

Thin at receiver yes, bloat roster no.

Perriman anf Johnston are keepers. Miller is a maybe. UDFA’s unknown.

I’m sure Licht is all over the waiver wire. DL, LB and WR are positions to watch.

  4. Oxycodoms Says:

Fragile wr group outside of evans

  5. Buczilla Says:

No worries, Breshad, Scotty, or Tyler will just step right in and we’ll barely notice the difference…Lol, right, since that worked so well in the playoffs last year. Please Mr. Licht, bring in a receiver or two that is actually good. This looks like the opposite of “all in” to me and a hard lesson should have been remembered from last year. Brady is still amazing, but if he has got to throw to chumps then we are going nowhere.

  6. K2 Says:

Gage is better that Jarvis…just didn’t get as much press. Gage will be fine…relax

    Gage targets 94 receptions 66 catch% 70.2. TDs 4. Longest catch 49 yards

    Landry targets 87. receptions 52 catch% 59.8 TDs 2 Longest catch 38 yards

Also remember at time Gage had to play against the best coverage because he was at times the number one receiver. Landry was usually the 3rd receiver playing against weaker coverage.

  7. firethecannons Says:

good to know about this now so our team can sign additional recievers–jerreth sterns come to mind

  8. GOB Says:

Why couldn’t they have signed both? Don’t give GOB any phoney bologna cap crap either. Too many here are assuming Godwin will be the old Godwin once he returns. That’s unrealistic. Landry has always been a beast inside. Also, remember the bum he had throwing to him last year. I think Gage is a fine player, but you can never have enough

  9. PSL Bob Says:

Rut roh! Gage was the stop gap until Godwin’s return. We need him full strength from Day 1 of training camp. He’s got to learn the system and develop chemistry with Brady before the season starts. If he can’t do that, those first 4 games look a lot more formidable than they already are.

  10. Defense Rules Says:

PassingThru … LMAO. That was nice of Joe to tee it up like that.

  11. Goatfarmer Says:

Errg. Cmon injury bug, go visit the Saints.

  12. Eddie Marz Says:

Miller? Johnson? Have no faith in either of them. Hoping Grayson is for real and Perriman steps up. Those last two guys made BIG plays for Tampa last year. Miller and Johnson are two years away from doing anything significant. GOBUCS’

I’d pick up OBJ who should be recovered from his ACL surgery around the same time as Godwin. with both of them after thanksgiving–we’d have a shot at running the table in DEc & JAN into the playoffs…..

  14. Realisticnohype Says:

OBJ is a bum. Never did anything outside of one catch. Sure, he can be made to look alright when he’s the #3. Get outta here with the BS
