Saints Go Bold; Trade Up For WR Chris Olave

April 28th, 2022

The reincarnation of the Weapons for Winston movement got interesting tonight.

Jameis Winston is only five months removed from major knee surgery (ACL), but his Saints team is banking on him knowing how to take advantage of one of the most dangerous receivers in college football.

The Saints traded up to No. 11 overall in the draft with Washington tonight to grab Ohio State receiver Chris Olave.

Olave is a rare, rare talent, one the Bucs had a workout or a visit with in Tampa. He’s a true deep threat who has a fielded a load of deep targets with his sub-4.4-seconds speed in the 40 yard dash.

Carlton Davis, come on down!

Joe loves seeing how desperate the Saints are to keep pace with the mighty Bucs. New Orleans coughed up the No. 16 overall pick, plus a late third-rounder and a fourth-rounder this year.

Carolina drafted left tackle Ickey Ekwonu at No. 6 overall, and Atlanta scored receiver Drake London at No. 8 overall, so Marcus Mariota can make him look bad. The Saints made offensive tackle Trevor Penning their No. 19 overall selection.

    Who? What?

The ATM had Hall of Famer Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in Tampa. Still a bust.

I know some Bucs fan had buried the Saints. Some have confidently anointed us division champs. They almost made the playoffs with Taysom Hill at QB. Their D is still very good, and they’ve added a speed option to complement Thomas.Winston was also playing well before he was injured. Not to mention, they’ve owned us. And our struggles with them predate Brady. They’re my sleeper pick. They absolutely don’t respect us. They also see an easy path through the division…including us! This is real talk

Saints coaches have done a great job flummoxing the Bucs on both sides of the ball. This just adds to it. Bucs absolutely must upgrade their D and OL, but especially their coaching.

@steele. You mean having the same exact offensive plan against the Saints hasn’t worked? Remember, our struggles with them predate Brady.

Haha just enough speed to under/overthrow him. It’s like a punt on second down!!!

As the husband of an OSU grad and who has seen A LOT of OSU football the last 7 years….this guy could be a problem for us. He may not be a huge name but man he’s really good. Sadly a perfect compliment to Thomas. This was a pick I dreaded and it came to be 😒

Bucs win line of scrimmage against most teams. Not the Saints.

This pick is not that concerning to me, but we will see. Chris Olave is just 6 foot and has a smaller wingspan than any other highly rated wide receiver. I don’t see him a great fit for Winston’s back shoulder type of throws.

Better yet to move up spots, the Saints gave up their 3rd and 4th round picks. Again, we will see but that feels like a bad move to me!

  9. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

I think we will see how much Sean Payton meant to the Saints this year. I don’t think they make .500 this season. Go Bucs! Time to bury the Saints!

  10. WVBuc Says:

Those asking for DT still have Wyatt and Jones sitting there….

“watch Jason Gump draft Malik Willis

    Lol”

Jets got us. JJ was going to be a steal. Nothing else Licht should have done. Jermaine fell heard and I can’t help but play sour grapes and think there had to be something to scare several teams away. Trading down was smart after Jets picked JJ in front of us.

  13. D-Rok Says:

We just traded out of the first round. Details to follow…

  14. Tye Says:

YEAH, I hope the Saints stay delusional about JW….
Andy Dalton may actual keep the Saints relevant with those weapons!

  15. David Says:

Payton is not there. No more dink & dunk handcuffs on Winston.
Time to rack up the interceptions

  16. Jersey buc Says:

Y’all hyping up the saints still?! Payton is gone can’t stand him but he is a fantastic coach. Allen will not be as good as a coach as Payton not even close. Winston will go back to his old pick ways without Payton reeling him in
