“Significant Interest” For Jimmy Garoppolo

March 2nd, 2022

Teams are calling.

You may have heard, but the Bucs need a quarterback. And Joe heard former NFL MVP quarterback Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio say as many as 20 teams need and are looking for one.

Moms: Force your kids to learn how to throw a football.

Well, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said yesterday on NFL Network that the Bucs called every team throughout February looking for quarterback options. So apparently the Bucs are one of many teams inquiring about 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

It seems, per the fingertips of Adam Schefter of BSPN, that Jimmy GQ is a wanted man.

Now Jimmy GQ’s surgery is to his non-throwing shoulder, his left shoulder. So no harm, no foul.

Joe confesses to waffling on Jimmy GQ. Mock him if will, but not many quarterbacks have led their teams to two NFC championship games. And his teammates love him.

No, Jimmy GQ doesn’t throw deep very well. But Joe has to think Arians is wise enough to adjust the offense to help his quarterback.

he can’t throw for 16 weeks after the surgery

  2. Joe in Michigan Says:

Joe: Maybe Philip Rivers out of retirement is a possibility, if he’s not down to 170 pounds (like Andrew Luck), or up to 330 pounds (like JaMarcus Russell or the “Hefty Lefty” Jared Lorenzen was).

  3. Bucs5066 Says:

I think an underrated option that most haven’t openly discussed could be exploring a trade for Gardner Minshew. I think he could be had for cheap, possibly a 4th or 5th rd. He could come in an at least push Trask/Gabbert for the starting job, if not take it outright. With the solid play he had on a terrible Jacksonville team, he could be better with a better team

  4. 1#bucsfan Says:

Yes n no. If he doesn’t do well with the deep ball then I say no but at the same time he could just throw it up to let ME13 go get it. Decision decisions. Let trask get his shot lol

  5. Niles Says:

Can’t throw deep and needs shoulder surgery. What could possibly go wrong?

  6. Niles Says:

Joe: “But Joe has to think Arians is wise enough to adjust the offense to help his quarterback.”

Joe: Doesn’t say that about other quarterbacks.

  7. Hodad Says:

So who plays QB until Jimmy is healthy? If he’s ever healthy. How does he learn the offense with his arm in a sling during OTA’s? Really what could go wrong? A very strong armed healthy QB who knows the system inside, out, Arain’s words, will be signed soon. His name is Blaine Gabbert, and he’ll be backed up by Kyle Trask. If some poor dumb team trades for Jimmy, it is why they are a poor, dumb team. Thought Joe would give up on this Jimmy nonsense when it was annouced he needed surgery.

  8. Beeej Says:

What I read is Jimmy will be ready to practice by mid summer

  9. Ash Says:

Hearing arians talk at the combine seems like they moved on from trying to trade for someone at QB from what he said it seems that the qbs they were interested in are not available for trade so Jimmy didn’t seem to be on their radar in the first place.

  10. BUCman Says:

The QB question has been decided: Trask & Gabbert. They have moved on to focus on the rest of the roster.

  11. TBChucky Says:

There’s cheaper younger options IMO. Tyler Huntley played good for the Ravens when Lamar Jackson went down. As Bucs5066 Gardener Minshew could possibly be had cheap. Please don’t trade for Jimmy G.. It’s not like he’ll come cheap. I’d rather roll with Gabbert or Trask..

  12. Bruce Blahak Says:

Save The Licht House…no trading of picks! sign our own…a QB will appear…

  13. ChiBuc Says:

Joe, I didn’t realize how funny you are…

“Moms: Force your kids to learn how to throw a football.” That’s a good one. There are no moms soaking in posts at this sausage party.

“Joe has to think Arians is wise enough to adjust the offense to help his quarterback.” BA has shown little adjustment here until Brady pouted, stomped his feet, and threw a tablet; and yet he still took his ball and went home. If it looks like a tomato, sounds like a sailor, and is flinging biscuits like a baboon, it’s Arians, not a duck.

  14. Marine Buc Says:

    Pass on Jimmy G.

Again I ask – Why waste the money on a mediocre QB during an off season like this one? We have 26 free agents to sign and our cap situation is not great.

Save the cap money. Sign our young free agents, draft well and get our cap situation under control so we can make a major move next season to grab a solid QB if Trask does not work out.

  15. SKBucsFan Says:

No. Again…we have a QB. I’d worry more about the OLine.

  16. Craig Says:

Garropolo needs a complete team around him. If we go for him we can not field that complete team.

Anyway, Trask has a higher potential because he is accurate deeper. He was very savvy as a college player, hopefully he will be in the NFL too.

  17. Costa Rica John Says:

I believe Brett Favre wants to return one more time. He can still throw it deep.

  18. RandsABucFan Says:

I believe our Bucs have the inside edge of getting GQ if they trade the rights of Brady to the 49ers. Whether Brady comes out of retirement or not at least the 49ers would own his contract.

  19. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Well, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said yesterday on NFL Network that the Bucs called every team throughout February looking for quarterback options.

Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst says the Packers have not heard from a single team about a potential Aaron Rodgers trade.

“Not at all,” Gutekunst said Tuesday. “Not at all. Not a single person.”

  20. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Why is everyone so concerned about the cap playing for a cheap QB etc, there really is only two options you have a rookie, or you pay a vet who can win the market rate is now 35-45m, and then you play around with other contracts to always remain under the cap Saints have done it for years, Green Bay is doing it now. Cap in NFL is a soft rule to allow owners to remain cheap when they make 700m/y and pay 190m/ fo key employees.

Green Bay has no cap space and can sign AR to 50/y and franchise Devante at 20m/y.

It’s only only willingness of owners to spend plus or minus 250m for a 200m cap, there is 25% wiggle room pushing contracts forward and trading away bad cap hits in future.

i hear josh freeman is coming back to town for a tryout with that rifle arm of his

    🙂

  22. adam from ny Says:

it’s funny…i don’t think anyone has brought his name up yet…not even once…

bruce can whisper sweet nothings in his ear like:

    “win or die…you muckracker”

  23. Steven007 Says:

Gardner minshew doesn’t have the pedigree but is otherwise a pretty good comp for Jimmy g if that’s your flavor of quarterback, and a ton cheaper. Both have average arms. Both have a bit of mobility, Minshew probably more than Jimmy g. Aside from the strength of the teams they’ve played on they are nearly the same quarterback. Of course that’s not saying I want them here, but if the brain trust is looking at Jimmy g they may as well look at the generic version for far less.

  24. adam from ny Says:

gardner minschew is like that 2nd string guy you need to come in and he catches fire and wins like 5 of 7…

he’s like a spark plug type and fun to watch at times…but not a true starter imho…

    sorta like a poor man’s baker mayfield…maybe…sorta

  25. Dapostman Says:

But Joe has to think Arians is wise enough to adjust the offense to help his quarterback.

    *********************************************************

I had to laugh when I read this line. Arians DID NOT adjust his offense his first year in Tampa. He had ZERO pass catching backs and did not use his tight ends. Only when Brady arrived and I’m guessing told Kangol hey I need guys who can catch the ball coming out of the backfield. If you think Barber, RoJo and Dare were you may need to check your vape pen. Only Brady and Gronk changed his offense. Wise is not a word I’d use to describe Kangol.

  26. Bucs Win Says:

No no and no. He can’t even participate in the off season, how the hell is he supposed to get acclimated to the playbook and develop chemistry with the receivers if he can’t even throw. There’s also the fact that he sucks.

  27. WalkdaPlank Says:

Still can’t believe the clamoring for Jimmy Garbage.

Imagine if Mike Glennon had gotten to play with Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, a good coach in Shanahan, and an amazing defense and people spun it like he “led” them to two NFC Championship Games, but in those playoff games leading up to and including those games he threw more INT’s than TD’s and averaged less than 175 yards a game. Then imagine people like Joe waffling for Mike Glennon with the only real justification being his W/L but no his actual skill.

Now change the name to Jimmy Garbage and that’s what we’ve got.

  28. sasquatch Says:

Wentz is more likely — he would be cheaper and probably equally likely to succeed in Tampa. If Indy let’s him go, I believe the Bucs will pounce.

  29. Anonymous Says:

Everyone has seen what a good quarterback can do for a team but remember you also have to have the receivers like we had in place for Brady

  30. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Bucs officials have already told Rick Stroud they don’t like Jimmy G. He’s not clutch, he sucks at the long ball, he’s dependent on a running game. They don’t want him and won’t trade for him. It’s a non-story.

  31. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Anyway, Trask has a higher potential because he is accurate deeper.”

How many career NFL pass attempts does Trask have? Donyou reliaze theres a difference bettween college and pros? Mason Rudolph was an accurate deep passer in college.

I get that theres a massive SEC bias just geez, we dont have a clue what Trask deep ball accuracy is in the NFL

  32. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Waldapalka

Quarterback in the NFL is absolutely not plug and play. You absolutely could not plug Mike Glennon into the 49ers and succeed with that. People really overhype how good the supporting cast of the 49ers is just to discredit Jimmy G. They have Deboo Samuels and Kittle on offense, thats about it.

Jimmy G can obviously play QB well or else he wouldnt have a career win % above 70%. Its not a video game folks.
