Russell Gage Talks About How Tom Brady Sold Him On Bucs

March 18th, 2022

Tom Brady is the Billy Mays of the NFL.

Damn, Tom Brady ought to be doing infomercials. You know, the guys that talk loud on TV at 3 a.m. about products you can’t buy in stores and then holler, “But wait, there’s more!”

Joe swears this Brady could sell air conditioners to Eskimos.

New Bucs receiver Russell Gage spoke via a teleconference today just minutes after signing his new contract with the Bucs. The former Dixie Chicks receiver basically said Brady had him at “Hello.”

“I had conversations with teams, offers and whatnot,” Gage said. “But [a sales pitch by Brady to come to Tampa] was completely different. This was like no other.

“I was three-years old when Tom Brady got into the NFL. For me to hear from someone like that, just seeing the other day that he unretired and then he’s reaching out to me? I mean, it was unreal.”

Gage added that at first he thought he was being punked by Brady. Roughly midway through the conversation, Ryan realized Brady was quite serious and that he really wanted Gage with the Bucs to make a Super Bowl run.

“I could kind of tell in the delivery that, OK, this is real,” Gage said. If it was a prank, Gage figured, Brady wouldn’t have been as detailed.

So now the Bucs have a strong receiver as insurance in case Chris Godwin’s rehab is delayed or he struggles to return to form. And a receiver that Brady liked enough to recruit.

Good enough for Tommy? Good enough for Joe.

This Brady is the next Bill Mays, man.

This is like waking up from a dream of Rachael Watson to pee, bumbed out the dream is over and you have to get out of the warm Great White Sammich, then fall asleep again and pick up the dream exactly where you left off…

  2. #8 Says:

Let’s hope TB12 doesn’t also enjoy the nose-candy as much as Billy did. RIP Billy!

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Time for TB12 to reel in Gronk. Feeling any nibbles Tom. C’mon set the hook already!

  4. SPARKY Says:

All these guys Tom’s trying to bring in, is he going to have money left for himself? And Gronk. Is Tom going to work for that 20 million on the cap hit?

  5. Dooley Says:

Russell Gage plays like Troy Brown used to play in New England. Line him up inside, outside, top of the bunch, in motion, in the backfield doesn’t matter, if you lose him after the snap he’ll either be past the sticks or in the endzone

  6. Dooley Says:

    Deion Branch too

  7. JGhotier Says:

“Mean” Gene retired :/ Bucs RoH bound bayyyy beeee 🙏

  8. Goldenbuc Says:

He’s a poor man’s Godwin, perfect player to buy time for Chris

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

OKK Brady. How about selling an all out pass rusher to come here and..a lockdown corner.

  13. D-Rok Says:

Tom “Billy Mays-Hayes” Brady. It’s got a nice ring to it. 🙂

  14. KingLDavid54 Says:

    RIP, Billy, RIP

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Where are the coaches in these signings? Did they retire just before Rams game?

  16. Your Mom Says:

And if Evan retires suddenly like Marpet, you would still have 2 legitimate starting receivers.

  17. DaBux Says:

    My prediction:

    Gage: 10 TDs, 800+ yards.

    You know the rest.

  18. Brent M Clark Says:

Strange you would use Billy Mays you know he died of his injuries from the landing at TPA…

  19. FortMyersDave Says:

Brent M Clark, yeah dude got brained by a piece of carry on luggage. I believe his autopsy did find some cocaine in his system as well. I saw the dude one time at University Square Mall way back in the ’90s or early 2000s (Dungy was still coach) doing one of demos for Orange-Glo and Oxy-Clean. Anyhow, RIP Billy. Joe is right, Brady is the ultimate pitchman, definitely a notch above anyone else, he is the GOAT afterall.

  20. Steven M. Says:

I heard that Brady spoke with Julio Jones and he said “come to Tampa”
Joe what’s the latest on this ?
Why for the second time did the Bucs pass on Von Miller ?

  21. Steven M. Says:

TBrady said ” come to Tampa, let’s be great together to Julio Jones.

Skip Bayless claimms someone who knows Jones very well told him Brady was DMing jones to come to Tampa. (Remember, the Bucs and few player agents negotiate in public or broadcast their negotiations.).

Why for the second time did the Bucs pass on Von Miller ?

Think about it: The Bucs might not be able to afford to bring back JPP. You think they could land Von Miller?
