“No Hard Feelings Over There. Love The Coaches.”

March 18th, 2022

Departed Bucs safety Jordan Whitehead

Former Bucs bone-crushing safety Jordan Whitehead is now a member of the New York Jets, and he met the local media there yesterday.

Whitehead was very firm on the Zoom call; he got no offer from Tampa Bay to re-sign with the team.

But Whitehead also said he’s all good when it comes to the Bucs.

“Business is business. No hard feelings over there. Love the coaches,” Whitehead said. “I had a lot of great coaches that taught me a lot over there. Great organization. Great guys. Great players. I’m excited for this journey.”

Why the Jets?

Whitehead didn’t mention his two-year, $15 million contract. But he did say he trusted head coach Robert Saleh and said Saleh made me feel wanted. Whitehead added that Saleh told him what he wanted to hear — that he’ll be used in a very versatile manner, including blitzing and coverage.

Interestingly, Whitehead said he wants to be a Tom Brady presence. He said losing his first two years in Tampa was an experience followed by seeing how Brady could change a team, and change other players to better a team.

“It takes one guy, it takes one mindset to change a whole season,” Whitehead said. “That’s what I want to be, just one of those pieces to change things around.”

Whitehead added that seeing how well and hard the Jets played against the Bucs in January let him know the team is on the right track.

Wish him well, (but not to well) he was a warrior for this team.

    .

I love the guy. He’s going to be ‘the change’, not just wait on someone else.

He learned that from Brady, Suh and JPP.

  3. Tim Says:

Yep. That one comment will make him a favorite in the eyes of Jet fans.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We are used to seeing players leave the Bucs and excel with other teams….we are not used to seeing players excel with the Bucs and leave for another team…

    This wasn’t Whitehead’s choice……wish him the very best…he was a great 4th round pick…..we can’t keep them all.

Next year we will have SMB, Dean & Edwards up……we’ll probably lose one of them.

  5. August 1976 Buc Says:

Please Joe, when showing a pic of Whitehead, or other Bucs, maybe a Uni that is not a 2014 -19 uniform. lol It is a nasty eye sore, thank God those Unis are in the waste basket of history.
J Whitehead is a Good guy and player, hope he does well. He is set for life now, and good for him.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. DBS Says:

Wish him well where ever he goes. Thank you for what you gave for our team while you were here.

  7. MadMax Says:

I wish you well man….you did great for us. I dont know what happened. Perplexed!

  8. Dooley Says:

Living in the tri-state area ive been reassuring my Jets fans friends theyve got one of our best defenders for the cheap. Totally forgot Whitehead is ONLY 24yo so as long as he stays healthy and keps adding to his game, skies the limit. Best of luck to Jordan, until we’ve got to play him

  9. Alanbucsfan Says:

Whitehead was a tremendous upgrade from Conte- he brought a hard nosed toughness to secondary and he will be missed

  10. Goatfarmer Says:

Wish we could have kept him. I’d rather have him than the Pats/Giants dude.

  11. Stone crab sam Says:

Bucs certainly had a ding dong moment losing this guy. Hard hitting clutch safety’s are hard to come by imo.
    Water under the bridge now….

  12. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Crazy the Bucs didn’t even offer him a contract.

  13. Dean Giusti Says:

He only signed for 3Mil n change over 2 yrs.
That’s nothing for a young stud safety.
I keep asking WHY WAS NO OFFER MADE TO JW???

  14. Dean Giusti Says:

    *13M

  15. MadMax Says:

^ His injury history and couldnt afford him i guess….mightve rubbed someone high up the wrong way.

  16. Coburn Says:

Reminds me of when we lost that young safety to Seattle who was always pretty good

  17. SufferingSince76 Says:

Dean, Jason Licht will be calling you soon to explain himself.

  18. Goldenbuc Says:

Reminded me of Bob Sanders, a top safety in the league if healthy…

  19. RandsABucFan Says:

Plus the fact that his uncle played for the Jets for many years prolly had something to do with it.

  20. RandsABucFan Says:

I said uncle ..I meant cousin

  21. William Tierney Says:

Jets played well against the Bucs and Zack Wilson made some NFL throws, so maybe JW is on to something.

  22. Your Mom Says:

Yeah mindset and all that, but it helps to lift a team to victory when you are the best who has ever played the game (Brady).

Trent Dilfer had a great attitude too, but……

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

Who is this guy again? Can you say Logan Ryan. See ya.

  24. Delson Says:

    @coburn bradley macdougal

  25. Austin Says:

Really gunna miss him, but he’ll change the jets, and Mike should get a bunch of interceptions

  26. RIs_Buc Says:

Well that changes everything. We didn’t make him an offer?? Ok, whitehead, we like u in TB again.

  27. Chris Says:

They made him feel wanted. And the bucs didn’t even make an offer. Why not offer him something? Maybe he would have taken less to stay in Tampa, like others have done.

  28. FortMyersDave Says:

Best of luck. One if the Joes said something might have been bubbling under the surface. Perhaps there us a reason he was not tendered an offer. Strange.

  29. David Says:

    Wish him well!

Where are all the couch potatoes who said Bowels and BA suck?
Kind of contradicts their tremendously insightful vast knowledge when an ex player of the team, who didn’t even get an offer, says how much he “loves the coaches over there”

  30. TampabayDJ82 Says:

David – once again you took the words out of my mouth. Agree 💯.. LISTNFRMAFAR is one of those fakeass fans that said BA sucks and he was on this site a few days before Brady made his announcement to return , he was never going to retire in the first place, but LISTNFRMAFAR wanted BA to “Free Brady and let him play for the 49ers ” and “He hates BA and doesn’t want to play for the Bucs so free him” !! Douchebag !! Go Bucs
