Tom Brady Doesn’t Rule Out A Comeback

February 7th, 2022

The greatest quarterback in Buccaneers history was talking again tonight.

Tom Brady’s show on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio rolls on.

Tonight Brady was asked about returning to play in the NFL. Joe thought Brady would laugh it off and say to his host, “Jim, I just retired and now you’re asking me about coming back? How bout you wait six months first?”

Instead, Brady almost sounded melancholy.

Host Jim Gray: You always liked Michael Jordan and you had that poster on your wall, kind of your standard. He came back. Muhammad Ali came back. Mike Tyson came back. So inevitably some quarterback’s going to get hurt or not perform at the level and it’s gonna start in July in training camp. It’s gonna go again in September and probably again in October and November. How are you gonna entertain those thoughts? And would you ever consider that?

Tom Brady: You know, I’m just gonna take things as they come. You know, I think that’s the best way to put it. And I don’t think anything, you know, you never say never. You know at the same time I know that I’m very, I feel very good about my decision. I don’t know how I’ll feel six months from now … But I try to make the best possible decision I can in the moment, which I did this last week.  And, again, I think it’s not looking to reverse course; I’m definitely not looking to do that. But in the same time I think you have to be realistic that you never know what challenges there are gonna be in life.  Again, I loved playing. I’m looking forward to doing things other than playing. That’s as honest as I can be with you there, Jim.

As Brady said, “you never say never.” But some guys certainly do say never, Tommy.

Joe is not living in fantasyland, and the Bucs are desperate now for a quarterback. It’s not going to be Brady. But the Bucs do still retain his rights and the future is always an unpredictable thing.

He wanted outta here b/c this team was complacent

  2. Matt Says:

    False hope is still hope.

    LFG.

  3. D-Rok Says:

Interesting mind-set from Brady, only 1 week retired. I would have thought his answer would have been, “Naw, fam, I just retired. I’m not thinking about football right now.”

  4. Buc92’ Says:

It’s all marketing, more views for the podcast etc … Every move is calculated & thought out to get the maximum profit even from the smallest of things . Like this false hope lol

    20% chance

    GoBucs!

  5. MDFree Says:

Yeah, think it’s time to turn the page on Brady guys. Seems like he had no interest in playing for us again and if he did he wouldn’t have left. Holding out hope for this man only makes this franchise look desperate. We need to move on. We still have a good team and are only a qb away from being contenders.

Perhaps there is some smoke to that fire of Brady cooling off on Arians coaching style. Maybe he didn’t like how the Antonio Brown saga ended. Maybe he doesn’t have faith in roster building due to the cap situation. Whatever the case is, if he does come back, I don’t think it’s with us and we shouldn’t be waiting on him either. Good thing is we still hold his rights and will be able to receive compensation in the end.

  6. Howard Cosell Says:

    So you’re telling me there’s a CHANCE?

  7. sasquatch Says:

It’s just nonsense. I mean, what the hell is he doing? If you’re going to retire, at least be firm in that decision for a week. Jee Zuss!

  8. ModHairKen Says:

Don’t give up his rights. Don’t let him walk away from his contract. When he says he’s ready to come back, get what you can for him. He walked out on the Bucs and said he’s retiring, and less than a week later, he’s waffling?

    Disappointed.

  9. jvato24 Says:

The Bucs will get all dressed up for the prom, I’m betting on Trask, Gabbert and 1 other middle level vet, sign Jensen, Godwin, 4nette and bait him into coming back

  10. Adrnagy Says:

Like i said. Brady will come back august. Or week 2 of preseason.
It depends on licht. How licht plays the cap and our FA.

If licht doesnt sign godwin. Its a straight NO for brady. Gronk will signed around august. Once he does. Brady is back.

  11. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Maybe Todd Bowles broke him. Maybe the undisciplined play turned him off from the Bucs. Maybe he wants to play in San Fran.

  12. Buc50 Says:

If Brady wanted to walk away, he’s earned the right to do that. If he wanted to play for another team, he deserves that too. He gave us the best 2 years any Bucs QB has ever given us. Look elsewhere.

  13. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

I thought the same thing prepare the team as if he’s coming back. Bring in a vet who is a free agent to compete with Trask and these are our scenarios…1. Brady comes back and we are ready to LFG! 2. Brady doesn’t come back and Trask wins the battle and we have our future QB. 3. No Brady, Trask sucks, and I imagine vet sucks as well because that’s all we can afford and we end up with a top draft pick in 2023 to go try again at picking our future QB. Great QBs coming out in 2023. So in the end we go all in on the 2022 season. Please Brady come back! Go Bucs!

  14. Alanbucsfan Says:

So let’s imagine Brady comes back week 12- it would depend on health of Bucs’ roster, Bucs’ chances for playoffs and his family’s acceptance of him only playing 3 months including playoffs. It might also be contingent on how much say he had over game planning.
It’s certainly an interesting statement he made- and would be a unique way to protect his aging body from the NFL punishment.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

There’s nothing to what he said, he’s just saying that he’s 1-week into ‘retirement’ and doesn’t know how he’ll feel in 6-months.

It’s pretty obvious that he retired because of his nagging wife, so the best thing the Glazers could do is recruit a 22-year supermodel who loves Buccaneers football to start hanging out around the Brady compound.

But there’s nothing to this, it’s just Brady telling the truth.

Also the Bucs own his rights, so if he does come back, it will be as a Buccaneer, or the Bucs can hold another team hostage to get some picks. But I think that’s extremely unlikely.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Different note, did you read the story on Kamara, and the cops saying the video tape shows him attacking a guy, punching him repeatedly as his ‘pose’ stomp and punch the guy. What a thug. That’s not just getting suspended, that’s serving a jail sentence, and if they have the footage of it, the police need to be making an arrest soon.

  17. Beej Says:

I can see him coming back late in the season if some team like the Rams loses Stafford in week 10, for instance

  18. T REX Says:

Sounds like if he did comeback it’s not here unless he set up some requirements

Wow. Todd Bowels is enemy number 1 in Tampa.

That jackoff ran off Tom freaking Brady.

    FIRE BOWELS

  19. LakelandSteve Says:

If he returns after the season starts and goes to another team then I think we will all know there was a lot more going on in the locker room or on the field that Made Brady want to give up on the Bucs. I know the Bucs have his rights but what if say Las Vegas comes to us and says we will give you a second round pick for Brady you think the Bucs wouldn’t take it? They probably would, and that would give us the inclination that there was a lot more going on within this football team than we were lead to believe.

  20. David Says:

That is not news or a big deal to me. Brady has always been very measured with what he says.
I am sure he will “never say never” for just about any question ever

  21. Bqen green Says:

One thing is for sure, he ain’t playing for ole ammonia brain again. We should know about all the crap surrounding this team soon. Many here are going to look like abject fools for the continuing support of this staff. When the details do come out, Ben expects a vigorous defense from curly Joe and co. It’s only fitting that the worst franchise is NFL history drove away the greatest player the game has seen. After all, they almost drove Steve young into law practice.

  22. adam from ny Says:

he’s not coming back until he gets in the octagon with bowles…

    #HeMadAF

  23. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

If Brady didn’t like the Bucs or the coaches why would he have called every one of them out and said nice things about them during his retirement announcement? Unless like he said 90% of what he says is a lie? Hmm…Anywho I’m going to stay positive and say he comes back to the Bucs to play at some point. Go Bucs!

  24. adam from ny Says:

seems like he’s just done with the bucs…

he’s retiring with class here – for now – and knows we control his rights…

he is going to want the bucs to relinquish his rights at some point so he can bounce to another team…

    that’s what’s going on…my guesstimate…

he trying to do this amicably, because he knows in the end he controls the bucs and the bucs don’t control him…

he has the leverage for a friendly parting because we want him in the ring of honor, at an occasional superbowl celebration event, and to acknowledge his time with the bucs…etc etc…

so if we don’t fork over his rights he will fin out bad in the end with the bucs – and the glazers certainly don’t want that…

it seems tom is done with the bucs, just not football…

tom’s playing long game on the bucs…

this could turn a lot of bucs brady fans off and sour them on tommy terrific in the end…

sucks that i’m typing this, but it could actually happen…

also beware the team that gronk signs solo

  25. Swampbuc Says:

Six months of the horse-faced commandant and Brady may very well come back.

  26. steele Says:

In addition to all of the other things, I’m guessing that he’s looking around and not seeing his dedication and commitment matched by many individuals, much less an entire team or organization today. He’s one of the last of a breed. You could see it start to get to him all season. He misses playing—playing the right way with like-minded teammates.

And it is like Michael Jordan. Who made the mistake of trying to make a comeback with the Charlotte Hornets, when he was too far past his prime, and the culture overall had changed.

I hope TB12 stays away. He should have bowed one calendar year ago, during the trophy presentation, but going out now, after a vintage comeback and near-win for the ages isn’t bad.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

The guy is a week into his retirement and said he doesn’t know how he’s going to feel in 6-months. From that you have dummies talking about how he quit because of the coaching, how he wants to play for another team, etc.

    Give a rest, ladies.

  28. HC Grover Says:

    Enough.

That is a Classic post Rod, totally agree, Classic lololol

  31. Defense Rules Says:

I’m soooo impressed Joe; you’re becoming a master at stoking the fires. My guess is that at journalism school you wanted to write mystery novels based on unsolvable cases, then not solve them.

Brady was asked a simple question and said just about nothing. Apparently he gets paid for this so keeping the door open is either being honest or simply keeping his audience talking about, oh ya, HIM. Gee, no famous personality has ever done that before. Oh wait, yes they have; ALL of them. Stay relevant as long as you can by keeping your options open & keeping everyone guessing.

Or MAYBE there’s a little more to it. The Bucs at this point hold his 2022 rights, but I think it’ll cost us $16 mil to KEEP those rights (signing bonus?). Whether intentional or not (ya right), seems like TB12 just challenged the Bucs to make a decision.

  32. Bucabilly11 Says:

Sure is some deranged souls here

  33. lambeau Says:

Ben Green is right–he won’t play for Arians.

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Brady accomplished exactly what he wanted to with that statement….generated articles just like this.

The question is….how long do we own the rights?….Anybody know?

  35. Lesko_Brandon Says:

I think i have more chance of winning the lottery than the chance of Brady coming back to the Bucs. 🤣🤣🤣

  36. PassingThru Says:

Doesn’t this remind you of the end of the movie, Patton?

“The pure warrior… a magnificent anachronism. The absence of war will destroy him.”

  37. Buddhaboy19 Says:

6 months is July, right before the season kicks off. Lets go.

  38. Bucanero Says:

Let’s roll with Trask and hope for a comeback. Keep Godwin and Fournette please
