Predicted Landing Spots For Chris Godwin, Carlton Davis, Ryan Jensen and Rob Gronkowski (And Antonio Brown, Too)

February 24th, 2022

Free agent guessing.

The tribe has spoken.

You know the PFF tribe, the arbiters of the game. The final word. The guys who think they invented football. Dudes smarter than Bill Belicheat — and will confess as much.

So, you know, if they type it, it is football Gospel.

Arjun Menon decided to play a football version of spin-the-bottle determining where the tribe’s top-50 free agents will land. Here is a quick breakdown with one very surprising keeper for the Bucs.

Chris Godwin

No, Godwin is not a surprise keeper. Joe too thinks/hopes the Bucs keep him and that’s just what Menon believes.

Ryan Jensen

Menon thinks Jensen is gone but his destination is a bit odd. Menon believes the Bengals will sign Jensen. That’s not a bad move but the Bengals can beef up their offensive line by spending less money. For example, the Bucs have two right guards the Bengals could sign for a whole lot less. And there are other free agent centers available that won’t break Mike Brown’s safe.

Carlton Davis

Poor Davis, he’s literally going from the NFL penthouse to the outhouse. Menon has Davis getting signed by the jughead Jets. You mean to tell Joe that Davis is going to fully sell out his soul and get lost in New Jersey where careers go to die? Joe would not be surprised if Davis ups and leaves but would he really go to the NFL’s black hole? He got a taste of awful losing during the Lost Decade. Why would he want to return to that?

Antonio Brown

Everyone’s favorite furniture-winging, bicycle-tossing tantrum-throwing topless jumping jacks jock will find employment this offseason. And no, not in the USFL. Brown will end up with the Crows and his cousin, Hollywood Brown.

Rob Gronkowski

Surprise! Gronk stays in Tampa Bay. As in he plays another year for the Bucs. If Joe had to bet, Joe would lay cash Gronk goes elsewhere unless he retires. Who the Bucs plan to bring in for a quarterback will go a long way toward nudging Gronk one way or the other.

The way Joe looks at it, if the Bucs can bring back two of these four, then they are doing well. Three of these f9ur and it is a home run free agent season.

No, Playoff Lenny is not listed. These are only players from the tribe’s top-50 free agent list.

This doesn’t seem unreasonable….get ready for a CB to be drafted.

  2. Bucs Guy Says:

Agree to Gronk and Godwin. I would love to see Fournette return.
    I think the Bucs keep
Capa OR Jensen – one will be a cap casualty
Suh OR Gholston – one will be a cap casualty
    Gio Bernard, Pinter, Succop
No offer or retired: Davis III (too expensive), Rojo, OJ, JPP, McClendan, Minter departs during FA

  3. Ash Says:

I don’t think Davis or Godwin go anywhere everyone else I don’t see coming back

  4. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Interesting- they have bridgewater to Tampa. Can’t wait to see who we go after.

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Word at the Sports Bar is Jacksonville is going to be a serious player for Godwin. They have both the need, plus a ton of money.

  6. Marine Buc Says:

I also see C. Davis leaving. My guess is Jacksonville. The reason? A lot of money, warm weather and no income taxes…

Plus the Jags have a ton of cash to spend and the Bucs don’t.

Davis has nice gold teeth but he wants diamonds in those teeth.

  7. Que5 Says:

Keeping – Godwin, Jensen, Stinnie, Suh, Whitehead, RoJo

  8. Que5 Says:

Correction: Keeping Gio but not RoJo

  9. Biff Barker Says:

Chris 142 , Godwin is waiting on our QB situation. Godwin can pretty much pick his team. Don’t think he’ll go to Jax, more like a contender. We keep Gio and Lenny since it looks like we will need a short game this season.

  10. Caleb Says:

Davis is getting franchised so he isn’t going anywhere.

  11. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Caleb

Franchise tagging Davis is probably the only way the Bucs are able to keep him.

However – at $17.5 million franchise tagging Davis would cost us @ 35-40% of our available cap space.

That is a big price to pay given the fact the Bucs have 24 other holes to fill on its roster.

Godwin, Jenson, Whitehead, Cappa, Suh, Fournette, etc – will not be cheap either…

  12. Lokog Says:

I would rather they sign Chris and whitehead

  13. Defense Rules Says:

‘No, Playoff Lenny is not listed. These are only players from the tribe’s top-50 free agent list.’

I’m heartbroken; Playoff Lenny not listed in the Top-50? Oh wait, MAYBE that’s good; MIGHT actually give us a better chance to re-sign him. Bucs need him desperately IF we expect to beef up our running attack & short passing game (necessities IF Trask or Gabbert start). Also would like to see us re-sign Gio as a complementary piece to a Fournette re-signing. RoJo’s gone.

Re-signing Godwin is a no-brainer UNLESS he’s determined to break the bank (seriously doubt that’ll be the case). Also feel that we have to re-sign Whitehead, but still can’t see us re-signing Davis (despite the obvious need). He’ll surely be asking too much money for that level of performance & availability.

I’m still hopeful on re-signing Jensen though (he’s provided the leadership & ‘attitude’ that our OLine was seriously missing until he came. However, his contract demands have to be reasonable or Hainsey will be our new Center. In any event, Bucs must re-sign either Cappa or Stinnnie (both would be nice, but may not be feasible given our salary CAP issues).

We’ve got a LOT of other players who are UFAs & those represent HOLES in our offense & defense. We either re-sign them OR we’ll have to replace them with comparable talent to stay competitive … at comparable costs. Six of our HOLES will probably be filled via the draft, but that’ll still leave in the neighborhood of 18-20 HOLES that we have to plug. JL’s got his work cut our for him.

  14. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Gronk resigns would be huge sign Tom is coming back at some point on Tampa in 2022. I think Gronk sits on sidelines, and signs a deal middle of season with a contender whom will pay millions for a TE2, and a SB run. The guys body can’t handle 17 games.

  15. Billbuco99 Says:

Give it a rest, some of you live in fantasy land f bois

  16. SlyPirate Says:

I agree with none of those predictions. Miami has a mountain of loot, no income tax, and no free agents choose Miami.

Davis resigns. He’s got to be the #1 priority.
They’ll sign either Cappa or Stinnie.
Jensen loves Tampa and his fellow lineman. I could see him signing for a slight discount.
Godwin goes to Miami for a mountain for cash.

  17. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

I feel signing Fournette is more important than any of the above mentioned. My second most important choice would be Jenson. The hell with the rest. Save your money.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I can’t see the Ravens signing nutty AB to pair with a young QB – literally Tom Brady was probably the only QB who you’d risk pairing AB with. Even Rodgers isn’t a good fit as he’s a California cupcake who AB would run all over.

As for Gronk, I just don’t see him coming back unless he really was having a lot of fun like he claimed. Doesn’t his mom live here? The WWE training center is right down the road in Orlando. Maybe he sticks around, but I doubt it.
