Jimmy Garoppolo A Bad Fit For Bucco Bruce Arians

February 21st, 2022

Troubling numbers.

So the Bucs are sniffing around the NFL for a starting quarterback.

And one winning starter Joe thought might be a nice fit for both his resumé and winning ways is giving Joe second thoughts.

Jimmy Garoppolo is very likely available. The 49ers have an early-first-round pick investment in quarterback Trey Lance, and Jimmy GQ admitted after the 49ers lost to the Rams in the NFC title game that he likely is finished wearing the the cherry red jerseys and gold pants in San Francisco.

Jimmy GQ has started two NFC Championship games and no quarterback in the NFL has more rings than he does (it’s true!). So based on all of this, Joe was OK if the Bucs brought in the pride of the Princeton of the Midwest, Eastern Illinois University. That was, Joe was good until reading a Twitter from noted NFL handicapper and stathead Warren Sharp.

So yeah, it seems Jimmy GQ would be an awful fit in Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians’ no-risk-it-no-biscuit offense.

While it may sound cool to have Jimmy GQ lead the Bucs, unless Arians retools his offense, Jimmy GQ and Arians could be like oil and water.

And no, Joe doesn’t think Arians, 69, has any plans to retool his offense.

No sh**** and for Bucs fans

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t want Jimmy G….but I also wouldn’t want him going to Carolina or New Orleans…..

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

Jimmy G is a bad fit for actually playing a full season for anyone.
Basically and Injury waiting to happen, no thx.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Why would anyone want this choke artist? His record is good, but it’s like saying the Ravens wok the SB because of Trent Dilfer. Jimmy G is a game manager who chokes in big situations – he stinks. Winston is better, cheaper, knows the offense, can win now. Oh and as a note Stafford won the SB despite leading the league in interceptions. Turns out you win games by scoring more points than the other team – not by winning the TO column.

  5. HC Grover Says:

The Bucconeers coach likes Gabbert. Rizky Bizcutness.

  6. Hodad Says:

New rumor is Jimmy G. will go to Washington, where Riverboat likes to win with defense, and have his QB throw 20 times a game, not 50. This makes more sense than the Bucs.

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Jimmy G is a bad fit, even for himself! I think all the QB talk is a big smokescreen, designed to keep season ticket holders happy.
I think Gabbert will be our starting QB next year

  8. adam from ny Says:

yeah jimmy gary-pollo (pronounced gary-poiyo) might really be bad fit…

always beware of a man with 2 first names…

and a last name like a latin rotisserie chicken

  9. SB Says:

Trask would beat JimmyG out. Give the kid a chance.

  10. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Jimmy G on Pitt or Browns will win the division and have a playoff run. 49ers already committed to trading him to a winning team outside the NFC.

He is going to the AFC and going to a team that isn’t horrible like Houston.

  11. adam from ny Says:

we really need a gunslinger type who can sling the ball all over with a cannon…

we need to find a jameis…

    just not actually……………….jameis

  12. Buczilla Says:

I’ll support the guy if we get him, kinda like how I’ll support whomever we elect as president even though I despise both parties, but we can do better than this dude. Unless we are trading for Watson (and he’s cleared) I think that Trask should get his shot. Any buzz on Trask at all?

  13. Rayjay1122 Says:

    Gabbert/Trask/Johnny Utah

  14. Bobby M. Says:

A lot of attention is going to JG…..but look at Carr’s stats compared to Stafford over their careers. They are very similar players, I wouldn’t mind Carr and he would fit a bit better in this offense than JG.

  15. SB Says:

    Really admin?

  16. Jonny Says:

Garoppolo to his credit is good for some very clutch 3rd down completions in traffic as long as the throw is within 10 yards. He has survived this long because of a genius offensive coach. I would take Winston, Cousins, Goff ahead of Jimmy G.

  17. adam from ny Says:

if brady’s on his way to san fran…

jimmy pollo is coming here, no doubt about it…

one doesn’t happen without the other…

brady and jimmy pollo are somehow mysteriously attached at the hip since forever

  18. Niles Says:

Joe: “The 49ers have an early-first-round pick investment in quarterback Trey Lance.”

And no less than Joe Montana said last week: “I don’t think Trey’s ready to play yet, myself, and after talking to some of the players.”

Montana can see beyond the “early-first-round pick” – Joe can’t.

  19. Beeej Says:

There REALLY isn’t a better (available) option out there than Gabbert/Trask

  20. Tbbucs3 Says:

“Trask would beat JimmyG out. Give the kid a chance.”

Not even close. People love to hate on Jimmy G but dont reliaze there was a huge dropoff between him and when Trey Lance played this season.

But sure, lets write off a career above average QB who already has a Superbowl and NFC championship game apperance.

  21. Tbbucs3 Says:

And Beeej…..there absolutely is….I can name about 10 available QBs better than Trask and Gabbert

  22. WalkdaPlank Says:

“But sure, lets write off a career above average QB who already has a Superbowl and NFC championship game apperance”

If you see Jimmy Garbage as an above average QB you need to seek professional help. Stop looking at cherry picked stars and use your eyes to actually watch him play. Anybody can cherry pick stats to make someone look good. Watch this:

Blaine Gabbert won a Super Bowl last year.
Mark Sanchez “led” the Jets to two straight AFC Championships.
Jimmy G has the most Super Bowl rings out of any active QB (none as a starter though)

  23. Tbbucs3 Says:

Jimmy G career win %= 71%. Career TD to INT 71 TD 38 INT.

If you don’t think that’s at least above average I really can’t help you figure it out.

  24. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Tbbucs3

Still cherry picking I see. Alright then.

Now show me his career playoff stats! Then get back to me about how above average Jimmy Garbage is

  25. Jordan Says:

    Great points here Joe

Arians is definitely pretty stubborn as you alluded to. I think this next year will be his last year.

Hopefully Goodwin or Leftwich can do well for us as next head coaches cause I like what the Bucs have built, but Arians might be a little too stubborn in his old age to win another Super Bowl.

We didn’t evolve last year, we just brought everyone back. It was never going to be enough.

  26. SB Says:

Why in the HECK was my comment deleted Joe?
    Nothing offensive in it.

  27. CChead Says:

For everybody that would be ok with Gabbert. Have you lost your freakin minds?

  28. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Waldka

Show me Gabbert/Task career playoff stats? My guess would be 0.

  29. Tbbucs3 Says:

And showing the win % and TD INT ratio isnt “cherry picking” lol its the 2 most important stats for QBs to have.

  30. unbelievable Says:

    Yup.

I wanted Jimmy until I started to dig into his play more. Terrible fit. He needs that super creative Shanahan run game to benefit his play action. And even then, he still doesn’t do well on deep shots.

    No thanks to Jimmy GQ

  31. Tim McHern Says:

Once more, the TB “fan base” shows JG what he’d be in for in addition to 110 degree weather. JG was in a strict offense composed of quick, short to medium passes. But look at his throws with the Patriots and in college, and you’ll see his arm is nothing to sneeze at. That all said, as a Steeper fan I hope he’s in Pittsburgh, but – now that I mentioned it, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Bill get him back to Boston. Either way, trashing a winning QB as you all do here, best you wait to see who you actually end up with under center.

  32. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Nice deflection Tb

I never mentioned Gabbert or Trask, we’re talking about Jimmy Garbage’s playoff ineptitude. Here I’ll provide the numbers for you.

Jimmy Garbage has started 6 playoff games. He’s thrown only 4 TD’s to 6 INT’s (your precious ratio you hold so dear falters for Jimmy when it matters most), and averages less 170 yards a game.

Win % is not one of the most important stats. You can throw 4 picks and win, or throw 4 TD’s and lose. TD/INT is important but of course Jimmy Garbage is going to have a decent ratio because he is a game manager that doesn’t take shots down the field, as evidenced by this article.

Again, Jimmy Garbage doesn’t pass the eye test, does No put his team on his back and carry them to wins, rather he gets carried. That’s not “above average” and if you think it is you need to pass the J.

Not to mention he isn’t cheap by any stretch of the means.

  33. steele Says:

Yes, his issues with long passes is just one impediment. The far more important problems, which don’t seem to faze enough Jittery G hopers, is that he is a brittle, panicky little disaster the moment the pass rush starts coming, and he does Three Stooges when in the grasp.

No good NFL starting QB has ever spun around and flung Steph Curry set shots into the air, or backwards blind duck balls into the waiting arms of opposing quarterbacks.

Jittery G also thinks he’s better than Tom Brady. Actually dared say it.

Other than all that, sure, he’s a great fit and a great QB.

  34. EEK Says:

Jimmy G is a playoff qb
    He is good
He will fit into BA’s offense with the great skill players we have
He will win a lot of games for us
    Yes please

  35. Swampbuc Says:

Garrapolo ist einer furchtbarer spieler. Stimmt. Buccaneers braucht ihn wie ein Toter etwas zu essen mochtet. Danke, Jimmy, aber nein.

Vielleicht der Mann der Pferdegesichter konnte es tun.
