Drew Brees Mulling A Return?

February 14th, 2022

“Drew, I can’t help you with Jaelon Darden.”

Drew Brees sure threw gas on the fire of quarterback movement last week when he told Dull Patrick he would return if a good team needed him.

Brees, now of NBC, was on the “Dull Patrick Show,” seen on Peacock, and confessed Sean Payton, the slimy Saints coach, called him three times and begged him to return this past season. Brees said he came close to doing so.

Then, Brees said if a Super Bowl team need a quarterback and called him, he’d be back in an NFL team facility and suit up.

The way Brees talked, it didn’t sound as if he’s motivated to go through a full year of OTAs and minicamp and training camp and 17 games, but that he’s more interested in being a relief pitcher of sorts if a starting quarterback of a good team got hurt.

Still, this has Joe’s mind whirling. Gee, Drew, Joe knows of a Super Bowl team (one year removed) that needs a quarterback.

Brees also explains how Bucs defensive lineman Will Gholston may have cost him an NFL record or two. It’s all below in the Peacock video.

Look what Brett Favre started. Hall of Fame quarterbacks waffling on retirement is now a thing.

His arm was never great. At this point it is below average. His final year in the league he reminded me of Payton Manning during his final year.

Still has it upstairs but just can’t make all the throws anymore…

I wouldn’t mind having DB as our #2 QB especially if we go with Trask. DB could be a great mentor for a young QB.

  2. Chimichango Says:

Na Brady’s and Brees retirement are completely different. Brees was TOAST for his final game. He retired a year late IMO. Brady can come back today and lead a team to a Playoff run. Brees at qb is like Sherman at CB.

  3. Robert Says:

man it would be hard to root for him, but he’s the best of anyone mentioned yet.

His arm was always below average. In fact Brees had one of the weakest arms in the NFL. Didn’t stop him from winning and setting passing records, though. Arm strength is overrated.

  5. PassingThru Says:

Brees would play more like Alex Smith than “no risk it, no biscuit” football. He’s not coming to Tampa Bay.

  6. QB1 Says:

Joe wants Jamoist back under center. It would make a fun drinking game every time he throws an interception though. Back to irrelavence.

  7. Stone crab sam Says:

Na, Joe doesn’t fancy mr crab leg, Uber driving groper. I mean how could he?
    It makes no sense.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

    Brees is broken.

  9. Bucco Bruce Says:

At this point I’m still waiting for Vinny Testaverde to be mentioned as coming back out of retirement. JESUS.

  10. Marine Buc Says:

    @ niles

True. But lack of arm strength makes your offense very limited and you become a one trick pony…

  11. Bqen green Says:

Unless the good folk’s at Cyberdyne systems (a division of OCP) are willing to replace his wet noodle of an arm, it ain’t happening

  12. Bqen green Says:

I thought we agreed on total body prostheses, now loose the arm!

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Brees is most suited to a dink and dunk West Coast style offense.
He just does not have the arm anymore for our vertical passing game.

  14. Thadeus Says:

I bet Green Bay AND San Fran will make a HUGE offer to TB 12.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

I like Brees, but at the end he could barely throw the ball 15 yards downfield, it’s the only reason that Arians finally got a W vs the Saints.

Even Brees, with as great as he is, isn’t coming back if he can’t throw a ball as far as I can.

  16. SaintsFan59 Says:

Brees would never play for your clown show garbage team.

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

Who cares he has one SB with team that’s been stacked for years and one of the best HC’s in the business. It’s too bad their fans suck so bad.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

A short white Cam Newton without the fancy hats.

  19. Marine Buc Says:

    @ saintsfan

    LOL!!!

How bad did it hurt in 2020?

You guys beat us twice and chocked in the playoffs…

I would be upset if I were you.

We stole your last chance to win a Super Bowl.

Took it from you like candy from a baby…

    I feel your pain.

  20. unbelievable Says:

^ Sent Drew Brees into retirement.

    How satisfying was that!

  21. Marine Buc Says:

^It was one of the most satisfying wins of the past two decades…

I put it up there with beating Philly in Philly for the NFC Championship.

The last game at the vet…

    Sweet sweet tasty revenge.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Yup. Beating Brees, then Rodgers and then Mahomes was simply an amazing run…

(And yes, we obviously had some help from injuries and questionable play calls that helped us get there)

  23. lambchop Says:

Drew Brees is unsuited for this offense. His arm is shot.

  24. adam from ny Says:

his arm is made of ramen at this juncture…

he should get a job at an asian fusion joint

  25. CalBucsFan Says:

Watched Brees at Purdue, then here is CoCal with the Chargers. When they drafted Rivers I BEGGED for the Bucs to get Brees, and they sure the hell should of too.

But Drew, though the desire flame still burns, you’re in the right place now. Thanks for the memories!

  26. CalBucsFan Says:

Damn all this auto correcting software!!!

I typed above….”then here in SoCal with the Chargers….”

  27. Winny Testaverde Says:

Never like Brees…never will. He’s awfully cocky after stinky up the announcer’s booth while sport’n a fresh new hairpiece/product/procedure. He did put up numbers playing arena league type football with his buddy Payton…can’t deny that.

  28. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Saints troll, after our “clown show garbage team” defeated your perennial playoff choke-artists & played the Pack in the NFC championship game then, eventually defeated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, what television did you watch our victories on? Because, when the 10’s of millions of viewers watching from around the world looked, they couldn’t find any ‘Aints players, coaches, front office employees or drunk inbred fans anywhere near the BIG games!

Thanks for dropping by. Next time bring friends. We can get their vantage points on the Bucs’ SB win then, compare notes!

  29. sasquatch Says:

Brees’ arm was totally shot by the time he was done. Nobody should be imaging him suiting up for the Bucs.

  30. JimbobBucsFan Says:

I give you credit for having brass testicles, SaintsFan59! 😜 🤤 You are as welcome here as a couple of trolls who posed as Buc fans also here in the past couple of years.😗 🤣 I think they are gone now!

  31. AtlBuc Says:

We need a QB who can throw downfield more than 20 yards
