“You Could Not Even Tell This Team Won A Super Bowl”

January 22nd, 2022

Bruce Arians

A Buccaneers legend helped make the case this week for Bucco Bruce Arians being the clear cut greatest head coach in franchise history.

Mr. Derrick Brooks was a guest on ESPN Radio this week and reminisced with co-host Keyshawn Johnson about how the 2003 Bucs were a little too stuck on feeling their Super Bowl glory of the 2002 season.

“We didn’t necessarily turn the page as quick as we should,” Brooks said, noting that he thought the team was talented enough to go deep in the playoffs but they didn’t make it.

More interesting was Brooks comparing what he saw from Arians’ 2021 team last summer.

“Man, from the time they came back this offseason, being at some of the practices where you could not even tell this team had just won a Super Bowl, the way that they were being coached,” Brooks said. “So [Arians] did a great job of turning the page and getting them focused on 2021.”

Amen, Mr. Brooks.

What a job Arians has done this season beating back any Super Bowl hangover and navigating through injuries.

BA has had a lot of help from Tom Brady & Jack Daniels, but yes, he’s gotten the job done.
If we can somehow win this game tomorrow…I think we can go all the way.

  2. Listnfrmafar Says:

Hang up your Walkman BA, after today you’re put out to pasture. I hate to say it but without that extra receiver Godwin or (thanks BA) AB, no way Bucs win this game Bucs DB’s stink. I’d love to see them win but it ain’t gonna happed. Stafford was sacked once last time, not good enough. Sorry gang it was a nice ride, enjoy the NFC South championship, the road ends here.

  3. Listnfrmafar Says:

Tomorrow, may as well be today.

  4. DBS Says:

And if they win List how about you disappear Listn. You are a Pats fan anyway.

  5. Biff Barker Says:

BA cant beat the Saints. If Brees shoulder/arm wasn’t dead, we would have lost last years playoff game too. Regular season he got swept again this year. He lost the last two seasond to the Rams too.
Call him great Joe, but he can be out coached IMO.

  6. Listnfrmafar Says:

DBS, you didn’t say I was wrong. McVay is going to emabarrass BA into retirement, stay away from him on the sidelines he may start swinging. Akers is key, he’s too fast. Who is the Bucs #2 receiver? Johnson, Miller? Both aren’t even good #3’s. Obviously everyone would love to have Godwin but at least AB would of given the Bucs a fighting chance. His situation should of.been handled differently instead of told to get the F out of here. Just saying.

  7. Youngbucs Says:

It’s amazing how many of you crown the saints lol. What have the done the last 12 years nothing. Y’all act like them beating the Bucs is the super bowl smh. I know the saints act like they’ve won Super Bowls when they beat the Bucs good for them. They’re so great that they’re home watching us again facts!!!!

  8. DarenGibo Says:

Biff, it is not just Arians when it comes to beating the Saints. Since 2012 Tampa is 5-15 against NO.

  9. Youngbucs Says:

Facts the saints had one of the worst offenses in the nfl before winston injury. What happened to Peyton great coaching ? And don’t give me injuries because the Bucs have those all year and still remain top 3 offense all season 🤔

  10. Swampbuc Says:

Stupid consonant boy knows more than half of famer and greatest player in Bucs history about NFL coaches.

Fortunately Listfkngdchbg, your opinion is worth the toilet paper you smeared it on.

    What an idiot.

  11. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I just heard Mason Dixon on Q105 say that if we do not win tomorrow, it may very well be the end of Tom Brady in Tampa.
Though I do not want this to happen, I can see it happening.
Think about it, why should Brady come back next year ?

  12. Lamarcus Says:

Tony Dungy is by far the Greatest Bucs coach. Tampa 2 > No risk, no biscuit.

  13. Jp09 Says:

Damn it feels good being the king, haters don’t hate on sh!t teams. Bucs silence the naysayers again 31-24! Go Bucs!!

  14. DungyDance Says:

Hosts on Gameday view seem to think we keep it close, but sadly I tend to agree with the “last game” comments here. We have a chance if game plan has TB12 getting rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds most of the time, but I’m afraid they will adjust to that. Off line is too dinged up to give Brady the protection he needs. And our D backs are not up to the task, which means they have to play zone coverage and then automatic 7 yrd completions as a result. It was a fun ride, but it ends here. Hey on a more optimistic note, it sounds like Frisco has a chance at knocking off GB tonight. I for one would absolutely LOVE to see whiney cry baby Rodgers have his last game as a Packer tonight. Waaaaah boo hoo they don’t let me have a say in draft picks. Here’s to hoping for a chance to seeing him pout about how nobody loves him in his post game presser.

  15. Anthony Thibodeau Says:

If no BA we never get Brady. So this is kind of a no Brainer. He’s the best coach bucs have ever had. He holds players accountable, brings that old school approach that is missing everywhere not just sports. He cares for his players and coaches like nobody else, (Don’t let the Brown stories fool you, the guy is dancing for his rap videos that ankle is just fine). Just too bad we got him in his late 60s, wish we got him in his 40s so he could coach for 20 years in Tampa……Tony Dungy was great but end of day he couldn’t get a ring and took him a while to get one (key word one…I belive) with Peyton Manning. Arians very well could get two with a 43 and 44 year old Tom Brady.

  16. Lamarcus Says:

BA gets credit for creating the first race of Bradyloins..Aka Bradites!!!

  17. stone crab sam Says:

Stop it man, you are killing me with that humor. I almost fell off my chair with that comment. Wifes pissed off cause I spit my coffee all over the puter.
damit man. Are you another unemployed comedian? So many of them you know…
Tony Dungy was gifted Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch, by the great sam wyche regime, and still couldn’t get over the top.
It took gruden to accomplish that.
People need to come to their senses and understand the facts as they are, not how they wish them to be.
Now with BA, he got some talent and ran with it to the top, and finished the deal, something dungy never could do with the bucs.
If tomorrow is bradys last game, it will be a sad day for tampa, and a sad day for the NFL.

  18. DBS Says:

So I guess that is a no. You will stay and troll if they win. Because you will be proven to be wrong. I will not predict for sure what will happen because I have no crystal ball. I am not in on the game plan. But I do have faith in my team they will get the job done. They made it through the first round unlike the Pats.

  19. stone crab sam Says:

above is a response to tony dungy was the greatest bucs coach…

  20. DBS Says:

Lamarcus you are here for 1 reason. Go back to the losing Saints sites.

  21. Lamarcus Says:

    DBS

When I comment….it’s to Joe. Not any fan here. Including you. Especially not any Bradites

  22. JGhotier Says:

Why no serious Coach of the Year consideration?

He’s more deserving than Green Bay’s Coach (who is getting a lot of consideration) and has the exact same record and has had more to deal with. Plus we’ve already proven we can out-Coach GB anyways under the tenures of Arians vs LaFleur (even if we haven’t played this year….YET!)

Same w/ the job Vrabel has done in Tennessee this year and he’s not getting the consideration like Green Bay’s Coach is.

  23. ChiBuc Says:

Swamp. Why are you so intimidated by another man’s opinion? Annoyed, yes. Rebukable, definitely. Is this a forum for debate/discussion, or does everyone need to line up, face the same direction and feed from the sychophant trough on command?

Personally, I’m on the fence that BA is the best buc coach of all times. If your only litmus is superbowl, then yes he is. But he was no QB whisperer with Jameis and was quite mediocre prior to Brady. He has the best GM, a proven DC, and deep pocket owners at his disposal. He’s a great delegator and mouthpiece, but greatest “coach?” Dungy built chucky’s SB team through the draft, creating (imo & the hof’s) the best buc d of all time, has a legacy of coaches throughout the league, and built a sb champ in indy. McKay ground through expansion with spit and glue to get us to a nfc championship game with the tightest owner (Culverhouse) in league history. You can say BA kept this team focused and quickly overcame their SB hangover or you can look at the guy who has done such for 20+ yrs, Tom Brady, and realize that BA’s relative greatness may be overstated.

  24. Mike Says:

The greatest attribute a team can have is being able to play their best football in the playoffs. They had a good start against Philly. Let’s see if it can continue against the Rams this week. I believe Brady and the coaches will have these guys locked in and laser focused and they will do to the Rams what they did to the Saints in the playoffs last year.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

ChiBuc…it’s because Listnfrmafar is NOT a Bucs fan but always spews is garbage all over our site like he is one,

    It’s as simple as that.

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Mike, tough to be laser focused when the OC & DC are on interviews Friday & today before the biggest Bucs game of the season. Laser focus maybe a stretch. How about lack of focus.

  27. Buddha Says:

Rams beat one playoff team all year. They have a lot to prove.

  28. ARealSonOfABeach Says:

LS, The game on Sunday will speak for all to hear!!!!! The best team will WIN!!! Go Bucs!!!!!!!

  29. ChiBuc Says:

@Mike “I believe Brady and the coaches will have these guys locked in and laser focused”

Brings up a good point in the argument of BA’s greatness… is BA so great without Brady? Idk, but a couple more wins would definitely set sail in that direction for me.

  30. Swampbuc Says:

Chi – thanks for chiming in. You already disqualified yourself by bringing up the “Gruden won with Dungy’s team” narrative. Even if that were true (which it’s not, see Gruden bringing in 5 new starters on offense and a couple free agent super subs – more than half the offense) – well guess what? Dungy couldn’t win with Dungy’s team, so chew on that.

Your comment about BA and Jameis is also nonsense. The only one who can fix Jameis is Jameis. No one can make his decisions for him, and the humble pie he’s been eating since his release has hopefully for his sake matured him. But if he were so great why didn’t Sean Peyton have him starting earlier? Winston looked positively Mike Glennonesque in the Aints offense.

I don’t get the resentment towards BA. Maybe there are too many softies that are intimidated by his confidence and candor.

I’m with Joe big time. BA is easily the best head coach the Bucs have ever had and will be in the Hall of Fame.

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

Buc1987, you are wrong, I am a huge Bucs fan and for the record the Pat’s are now a boring team the Bucs are not. I just believe the coaching staff is substandard. I can be converted rebut my reasons below:
    1. Lack of discipline and constantly not prepared.

    2. Cannot get off the field on 3rd downs.

    3. Darden the returner choice on ST.

    4. Consistently playing injured players. Gronk, LVD, Shaq, Wirfs. Putting them back in the game may have made the injuries more worst.

    5. 3rd & 1 or 2 or 4 &1 or 2 risk it no biscuit deep ball.

    6. Last game 3rd and 2 to close out the game, sweep to injured Wells side.

    7. Striking a player on national TV.

    8. The handling of AB.

    9. Poor in game time management

    10. Lack of accountability, throwing players under the bus.

    11. Lackluster offensive plays.

Now I’m boring myself the list is endless. To those that believe Brady came to Tampa because of BA are wrong, it wasn’t his first choice, he came because he saw talent like Evan’s, Godwin, the oline being wasted and also knew if he could get Gronk & AB to buy in the team was stacked.

  32. Jmarkbuc Says:

    ChiBuc

    Sure, everybody has an opinion.

Hearing the same $hit post after post about BA sucks and coaches shouldn’t interview is just tiresome. Then again, what do you expect from a self admitted troll.

But alas far, far better trolls than he have been run from this site. He’s a rank amateur in comparison.

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jmarkbutt, why do you take my posts so personal? Are you a relative of Ba or one of his cronies? Half the fans on this site aren’t even in Tampa, are you? My consistent comment are based off Joe’s topic or addressing a comment made by another Bucs fan like myself. Take a Valium and relax you don’t have to read my comments but I do believe you look at my posts like a car accident, you just can’t resist reading them.

  34. Izod Says:

No, outside of about 3 games this year, I agree: on the field, this team has NOT looked like one that ever won a Superbowl.

  35. Swampbuc Says:

Liszt – no one takes your posts personally. They’re way too off the mark, misguided, flawed, and just plain wrong for that.

But you’re dumbazzery makes you a fun target to bag on. If you don’t like it, don’t post your driveling nonsense.

  36. Steven007 Says:

List, likening reading your comments to being unable to look away from a car accident is the most self-aware thing you’ve ever written on this blog.

  37. SPARKY Says:

You know after a team wins the Super bowl, the next year every team you play, is amped up like it’s a playoff game. The Saints, Washington, Jets, and Rams, remember how the Rams were jumping around like idiots when they beat us? And when you have Brady they want to beat you more yet
Now that it’s the playoffs, we will match that intensity.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

    Listnfrmafar says :

” The good old days when Plunket was the QB, John Hannah & Russ Francis. Then Grogan came in as QB and was beaten like a house pet.”

Dude post shyte like this all the time…and then comes on here and says he’s huge Bucs fan. He knows NOTHING about our history.

Has also stated in the past that he would never follow this loser franchise if Brady and Gronk weren’t here.

He’s a Pats fan that’s bored of the Pats….so why does his opinion matter here?

  39. Steven007 Says:

1987, it doesn’t, but most of the regulars know that the trolls just love nothing more than to see their post online and people reacting to it. It’s a special kind of warm feeling they get. Emphasis on special.

  40. J Says:

Budda. They beat two playoff teams. Cardinals twice now and Bucs once. But point taken they’ve lost to SF twice, Titans, GB.. not a great look overall.

I think they match up well with our Bucs, especially given injuries.. if we win this it’ll be the defense causing Stafford to make mistakes and our ability to run well enough to keep their pass rush honest.

  41. BillyBucco Says:

    @List

Are you seriously that ticked of about your sucky Patriots getting embarrassed that you spew as much BS from your mouth that you can think of?

I know, a troller once ticked you off on a Patriots site and you thought, that’s what I want to do to Tampa because they stole my QB and I’m a child.

  42. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Like I’ve said before

Lstnfrmafar is the T Max of N dog’s

I might post some off the wall stuff every now and again, that comes from being here quite a while…. But…

I was in Tampa Stadium when we won our first home game.

I’ve done the Dave Pear fist salute ✊, at the same time Dave Pear was doing it on the field.

I had the honor to prepare dinner for Lee Roy Selmon and his wife Claybra on multiple occasions.

I’ve been in end zone seats to see TDs by more than I can remember.. Giles ,Eckwood, Wilder, Dawsey, Carrier all the way to todays players.

I bought my PSL to what was then called “The new Tampa Stadium” during that drive to keep the Bucs in Tampa.

So some wannabe troll who does not give a damn about the Bucs is really only an annoyance , a grain of sand in an hour glass. He’ll move on. Bucs fans will remain.

  43. Listnfrmafar Says:

Buc 1987, very good, Mini Mac Heron, Mosi Tatupu, Hayes, Roger Craig, Steve Nelson, Bruce Armstrong, Sam Adam’s, Darrel Stingley, Stanly Morgan, Tony put my tail between my legs Eason, Doug Flutie ( him and Joe Morris from the Giants I played against).

Dunn, Johnson, Keyshawn, Cadillac, Alstott, Brooks, Sapp, Joe Juv, FAMOUS JAMAIS.

    What’s your point?

  44. Listnfrmafar Says:

The only one that posted anything relevant is ArealSonofaBeach.

  45. Listnfrmafar Says:

Jmark, that explains your love for BA, you’re from the same era, when players had leather helmets with no face masks. You also posted your grand mother used to hit you upside the head, that also explains the reasoning of most of your posts.

  46. Posey99 Says:

People posting lists of negativity for arguably the greatest Bucs team in the history of the team, makes no sense. This could also be one of the greatest teams in NFL history if they can repeat. Slap full of HOF’ers. I’d be curious if 10-15 years from now how many gold jackets our current players will be wearing. Relax people, enjoy the ride.

Tom Brady: greatest QB of all time
Rob Gronkowski: arguably the greatest TE of all time
Tristian wirfs: all pro will have a gold jacket one day
    Vita Eva: same as above
JPP: could have a gold jacket one day
Shaq: could have a gold jacket one day
Mike Evan will have a gold jacket one day
    You can speculate others

  47. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Lstn

Clearly your Grandmother didn’t, snowflake. Flattered that you recall the minutiae of my posts.

Actually I’m a Dungy fan.. but I’ve been around for all off them . As I’m sure you recall, I have said more than once that I don’t agree with all of BAs style.

Your conspiracy theories and constant harangues of him or his staff are simply not valid, no matter how many times you repeat them. Like Parcells said.. you are what your record says you are. He’s a SB winning coach who has his team at 14-4 the next year. That’s it.

    Bucs win Big Sunday 31-13

  48. SPARKY Says:

C’mon boys, it’s playoff time. I’m with Posey, how can you enjoy the games thinking negative stuff. I’m from So. Dakota, Viking territory. Now you want to see some fans that have a reason to bitch. But they ain’t near as bad as some of you guys, and your team is the only one that is super bowl champs.

  49. Crickett Baker Says:

Listn..If you are going to write derogatory stuff it should at least be intelligent and educated. There is NO English where “should OF” (of being a preposition and not a helping verb) or “would of”. It is “would HAVE” (the helping verb) or the contraction “would’ve”. I rarely finish reading a post where there are errors like that.

  50. Swampbuc Says:

    Steven007 — bravo! I love this take!

  51. Listnfrmafar Says:

Swamparse, Steven007( Mr. Bond, James Bond), Sadly I do find some humor in that many on this site get so bent out of shape if I post MY opinion of this coaching staff. I also find humor in that the same fans are the ones on the game day thread that trash the coaching staff when things don’t go Bucs way. Constant bitching about the defense yet in their next breath they defend Bowles. Like Brady about 90% of what I write is exaggerated and reading the defensive posts some of you write are hilarious. GO BUCS! Cricket, please review and send me back the final version so I can revise. If you have that much time on your hands go see Oneilbucs posts, those should keep you busy.

  52. Snoman4 Says:

List is trolling. Brady was always coming to Tampa. There was no other team that was ready made to win from an offensive stand point other than San Diego. Brady was not going to the West Coast due to his son Jack being in NY. I won a lot of money on Brady coming to my second favorite team in Tampa. Everyone thought San Fran, San Diego, or Chicago so I won saying Tampa. I have always been a die hard Patriots fan because I was born in Western Mass but Tampa was my second favorite team because I was raised in Florida. Florida had Miami and Tampa and there was no way I could root for Miami being in the division with New England. I was a New England and Tampa fan when both were the laughingstock and dormats of the NFL. Go Gators, Bucs, and Patriots!

  53. Snoman4 Says:

List cant be much of a Patriots fan seeing as he forgot one of the greatest Patriots ever in Andre Tippett.

  54. Listnfrmafar Says:

Also forgot Slade, Ted Johnson, Vincent, Troy Brown, too many to list.

  55. Buczilla Says:

Arian’s record speaks for itself and he’s already clearly the best coach in our history. I love both Dungy and Gruden for what they accomplished here, but Arians has easily surpassed them. Having three wonderful coaches in our history and maybe a fourth if ya want to throw in McKay, almost makes the years with all of those sorry a$$ coaches that we had seem not so horrible. Good time to be a Buc fan.

  56. orlbucfan Says:

I’m a long time, long suffering Bucs fan of 43 years. I didn’t even know central FL had an actual NFL team until 1979. I attended all the ’79 playoff games at Tampa Stadium. I also was at the inaugural home game at RJS. Bucs played da Bears and beat them. This Bucs team is the best one the franchise ever fielded. By that, I mean both offense and defense.

  57. SCMark Says:

I’ve followed the Bucs since the first preseason game. All I can say is it’s nice to be excited about a Bucs team at this time of year. Loyal followers have suffered through too many seasons where in November we’re looking forward to the draft. Go Bucs!

  58. bucsfanfromNE Says:

    Can’t we all just get along,,go BUCS,,31-30

  59. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Lamarcus please, as much as I like coach Dungy and respect what he did for this franchise he is not the greatest because he was TOO stubborn and conservative to put a winning offense together. He focused only on the defense and neglected his offense. He could never win a championship because of that that’s why Gruden had to come in and win with his offense. BA came into a team with some pieces in place and Jason Licht got everything else needed Brady, Gronk, AB, Lenny and that OL the rest. BA has us in consecutive playoffs, won the Superbowl and may be on the verge of going to another if we win today

  60. Steven M. Says:

In today’s game against most the Rams don’t you think Bowled

would have an the Rams b Rd st receiver double covered ???
