Winning Streak May Propel Bucs

January 18th, 2022

“Look what I have.”

Joe understands from social media and reading comments on this here corner of the interwebs that Bucs fans are downright nervous about this Sunday’s game against the Rams.

(Trivia: The last time the Bucs had two home playoff games in the same postseason, the Bucs began the playoffs with a home win over the Eagles and the next week failed to score a point in a 9-0 loss in the 1979 NFC Championship.)

Joe already wrote that the Bucs are on a franchise-best run of wins. The Bucs have won 22 of their past 26 games. Pretty special, right? Well, Kevin Seifert of BSPN wrote how there is another winning streak that may boost the Bucs this week.

Simply put, Bucs quarterback Tom Brady does not lose in the divisional round.

Why the Buccaneers will win: Tom Brady’s teams have won nine consecutive divisional-round games, the longest such streak by a quarterback in a single playoff round in NFL history. Brady has lost only twice in the divisional round in his career (2010 against the Jets and 2005 to the Broncos), and his teams overall are 14-2 in the divisional round. Oh, by the way, he is 5-0 in the playoffs as the Buccaneers’ starter. None of that history will directly impact the outcome of this game, of course. But it’s a longish way of illustrating the Buccaneers’ advantage whenever teams are so much as close to evenly matched in a playoff environment. A quarterback who knows how to win at this level can be the difference, as Brady has been on so many occasions before.

Boy, Joe hopes this magic continues. The Rams sure looked strong last night. Borderline scary.

Let’s hope the same Bucs defense that came out last Sunday so fired up and motivated to prove they are still the champs shows up with that same fire. The Bucs will need it.

I fully expect the Bucs to respond in full to the Rams shot across the bow last night… as it’s said, iron sharpens iron, and these Bucs are sharp from top to bottom.

  2. Nutterbutter95 Says:

This means nothing… But last nights game also means nothing. Cards have been an okay team at best without D-Hop. No pass rush on Stafford means he will light it up. Trust the coaching staff here, they havent let us down in the playoffs. Ill take TB12 over Stafford any day in these types of high pressure situations. There isnt much he hasnt been through over his career

  3. geno711 Says:

I am not certain the Bucs will win; But I am sure that Brady will not look like Kyle Murray.

  4. Hodad Says:

This game is riding on to bad ankles. Without Wirfs, and certainly if both can’t go we’re screwed. So to even have a chance in this ball game, our defense has to really get to, and rattle Stafford.

  5. #8 Says:

To win in the playoffs you must play your best ball on both sides.
If the Bucs play their best vs Ram’s best, I call it a toss up.
Hoping the Bucs can pull it off again.

  6. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

Rams looked very good last night. The Cards were shellshocked though…

  7. Bobby M. Says:

At this stage, all the teams are capable. Every team has things they are strong at however every team also has to execute. What is nice is regardless of our situation, with Brady out there we always seem to have a legit shot. When we had Winston, it seemed like we were always anticipating the wheels to come off at any given moment to lose the game….for obvious reasons. I think the thing helping us a bit is the Rams played Monday…..now must recover, prepare and then travel across the country for a Sunday game. Any little edge available helps. I think Bowles defense plays really well, more concerned with our offense and execution with possibly two linemen out.

  8. Lesko_Brandon Says:

“Football is always the same. You fill your gaps, you cover your man and it all comes down to execution of our gameplan ” – Todd Bowles Basically, he is right, we need our Defense, Offense and Special teams to be complimentary of each other to beat the Rams. We will need the Sea of Bucs jersey out there cheering wildly for the Bucs. GO BUCS!!

  9. Cobraboy Says:

I saw a really sorry, unmotivated, poorly coached, and poorly game-planned AZ team last night.

In fact, that entire club should be embarrassed.

Are the Rams that awesome, or were the Cardinals that terrible?

Hard to say, maybe some truth in the middle.

And Kyler Murray may be an exceptional athlete, but he’s a crap NFL quarterback.

  10. Mike C Says:

The Rams have one and a half days less of rest, have to fly cross country, we have the goat, and they have to come into our house…. I Like our chances.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

Stafford has a long history of throwing picks and fumbling when under pressure.

Therin lies the innards of the game.

Wheoever gets the most QB pressure will win this game.

The Bucs OL health will be critical to their success. If Wirfs, Jensen, and even Wells can’t go, the Bucs will not win this game…and will know how GB and KC felt last season when their OL went down in the playoffs.

  12. Coburn Says:

Always get nervous when streaks get brought up. You can generally only keep them going so long, but yes it does illustrate Brady and his teams always ready for playoff ball

  13. BT-Tampa Says:

Big difference between Tampa Bay and KC; KC had to spend all their money on Mahomes, so they didn’t have it for back up Oline. We have good back up.

  14. Bird Says:

Got to win in trenches on both sides

If brady has some time and can stay upright, we have a chance

Re-watched the eagles game and those 3 sacks in first half were jailbreaks and meeting at brady in middle. 2 were becAuse the right tackle buckled from their injuries

Will be a long day if that continues

And we got to get in staffords head. He can throw it for sure. But he has not been here before of a game of this magnitude. Hope he folds like a cheap suit.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Here’s another little tidbit that was in the Mercury News …

‘There are 14 quarterbacks in the playoffs. Brady has 34 playoff wins (and 11 losses). The other 13 combined have 38 wins (and 30 losses). That includes such luminaries Ben Roethlisberger (13 wins) and Rodgers (12 wins)’.

    I like our chances.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Those divisional wins were mostly in the AFC….easier matchups….but like it’s been said……give me Brady with a healthy Oline and we can win…..Oh wait!!!

  17. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

If wirfs and God forbid Jensen can’t go (doesn’t seem like Jensen had a problem the rest of the game) if both those guys can’t go just be ready for a loss y’all!! The way you beat Brady and this team is to hit him and not let those deep routes play out… The need wirfs to have a miraculous healing or this game will get really ugly!! The defense can win you a game and hell they may score two pick sixes…. But let’s be real… No wirfs against the Rams D-line …. C’mon, let’s be real!!

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Cobraboy … Won’t be at all surprised if Wirfs AND Wells can’t go Sunday. Anybody’s guess how our coaching staff will shuffle the line, but I’d expect that Stinnie & most likely Hainsey will both get the nod as replacements. Nick Leverett’s played some Guard, but I think Hainsey got trained at Center. It’ll be interesting.

  19. Ed Says:

Its about adjustments and coaching. You play to your strengths, you are down a Pro Bowl right tackle but you have a capable guard, Cappa, who can play tackle, put him in there, don’t depend on Wells. Run behind Cappa, he isn’t a bad run blocker. Put that guy Hainsey in at guard, he can also run block.

Tom Brady will have a lot of input into the play calling, he knows how the Rams have bullied the Bucs and he’ll have to do what he does best, find the open man.

The Ray Jay crowd is going to have to be as loud as possible when the Rams have the ball and Bowles is going to have his best game plan against McVea’s offense. They are a very good offense but playing on the road is a different animal than playing in SoFi inside where the crowd noise was deafening for opponents. Buc fans, lets make it tough on the Rams and be LOUD.

  20. AMI_Chris Says:

The Bucs are tough at home (my how times change!) but they’ve drawn the toughest of the three possible opponents, IMO. If the Bucs are short on the OL, the Rams will play press coverage and blitz the heck out of Brady.

  21. Craig Says:

The Rams looked strong because the Cards had no answer to the run game.

Stafford wasn’t that impressive. We stop the run and score some, we can win.

The momentum will be stronger when the 49ers roll over the Pack, and the Bucs will already know that.

  22. Alanbucsfan Says:

And Kyler Murray may be an exceptional athlete, but he’s a crap NFL quarterback.
    – you know better than to make silly comments like that.

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

@Cobraboy says” The Bucs OL health will be critical to their success. If Wirfs, Jensen, and even Wells can’t go, the Bucs will not win this game…and will know how GB and KC felt last season when their OL went down in the playoffs.”

I agree, w/o Wirfs and Jensen we are screwed, and will not win.

  24. David Says:

A lot of talk about the office because Wirfs most likely won’t play but I think the key is the D line. Shaq, JPP, a blitzing White, Tryon, Suh & Vea up the gut… They need to get pressure on Stafford. He will commit turnovers.

  25. Perimeter Blocker Says:

The Rams are also the team that were beat by the 49ers the previous week…

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

No winning streak is going to propel our Bucs. LA looks good. Stafford is playing his best ball in the playoffs. And the beast Donald and Vonn are hungry. We need Wirfs and Jensen at at least 85 to 90%. Jensen will be there. But Wirfs is a great concern. They won’t be able to run against us like they did the Cardinals. But still, they are good. I’m optimistic but realistic also. This game could go either way depending on how we come out. Now we shall truly see what we got. GO BUCS.

  27. SufferingSince76 Says:

There’s no comparison to the 1979 Bucs-Rams scenario. Doug Williams was no Tom Brady and Isaac Hagin was no Mike Evans.

  28. Jmarkbuc Says:

    76

You were allowed to play defense in those days.

  29. Jmarkbuc Says:

I think the Titans knock off the Chiefs, especially if King Henry plays.

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Oops.. that’s next week 👀

  31. Buctank Says:

Tom Brady with Bucs are 1-6 vs rams and saints and 28-3 vs everyone else. This like the saints defense the rams play man with 2 deep safety and rush 4/5 players and has just been a bad match up for Brady. Then add Wirfs and his backup along with missing Godwin and it’s going to be super difficult.

In fact Brady with pats struggled in super bowl against mcvay… but the Bucs can win this game but it’s going to start with a awesome defensive game and getting Stanford into mistakes

  32. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Nobody thought we could go on the road and win as a wild card team last year either !! Nobody thought we would beat the AINTS in N.O. last year !! Nobody thought we would beat the PACKERS IN GREEN BAY LAST YEAR !! AND NOBODY THOUGHT WE COULD DESTROY THE CHEIFS IN THE SUPER BOWL LAST YEAR !! I SAY BRING IT ON !! GO BUCS

  33. Iamabuc Says:

To tell you the truth guys, I was never sold on the Cardinals despite all their won games. Always thought they were pretenders. With that said, I’m not scared of the Rams. You see, the Bucs are not pretenders. The Bucs are the defending Champs. So bring on the Rams. Also, they have to come to our lair….😏…I’m telling you, it’s not going to be easy for them. Just Go Bucs and “forgetaboutit”…🤣🤣🤣

  34. Nprbuc Says:

Thank you Tampabay DJ !! Screw the doom and gloom. Did we expect we were going to draw Jesuit? It’s professional football. Let’s get it done. GO BUCS

  35. Anonymous Says:

We will need to blitz and pressure stafford all day long and make him throw ints. Watch 49ers on how they beat the rams 7-0 !!! LFGO TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY

  36. BucBeliever Says:

Am I nervous about our banged up O-line? Hell yes! However Stafford threw 17 picks this year and in the Cardinals game he had what less than 200 yards?. If we can stop the run like we did with the iggles, force them to throw we can probably get turnovers. Then use an extra lineman or TE to chip their pass rushers, play quick strikes and play action we will be in this game! Yes the Rams have had our number but so did the Aints last year and look how that turned out in the post season. It’s a new chapter. Go Bucs!

  37. Steven M. Says:

Yes Wirfs and Jensen are very important.

But the Bucss are a team with other great players.

    Let”s Go !!!

  38. Pete Says:

We’ll be alright! We have TB and the D Is going to rise to the occasion.

  39. 86_90 Says:

Playoff games are highly dependent upon turnovers. The home team also has an advantage. If the Home team commits fewer turnovers than the visiting team, they have a good chance to win. Get TB12 +2 turnovers and Bucs have great win probability.

  40. Dennis Apgar Says:

The Rams beat us, payback or the end of the season. Go Bucs!
