Tristan Wirfs Named All-Pro; Only Buc Chosen

January 14th, 2022

Tristan Wirfs

Wow!

What an honor for second-year right tackle Tristan Wirfs, and it was no surprise. Joe’s got the vote totals.

The esteemed 50-person AP All-Pro panel got its votes in Wednesday and the winners were announced today. It’s for more exclusive to be All-Pro than a Pro Bowler.

Wirfs won easily at right tackle — best in the NFL. He got 37 votes, 27 ahead of the Eagles’ Lane Johnson.

Ali Marpet got two votes at left guard. Ryan Jensen got 5 votes at center. Tom Brady finished second in the quarterback voting to Aaron Rodgers, losing 34 to 16. #BS

Vita Vea got 2 votes at defensive tackle, the eighth-most votes at his position. Lavonte David pulled in three votes at linebacker while Bucs savior linebacker Devin White got one.

And Antoine Winfield, Jr, scored one vote at safety, the only guy among Bucs defensive backs to get a nod.

When’s the last time the Bucs had an All-Pro offensive lineman?? Davin Joseph and Donald Penn made Pro Bowls, but Joe can’t think of anyone getting the highest honor.

That 2020 NFL Draft was known for its Big-4 tackles. The Bucs traded up to pick the last of the bunch and found the best.

    Brady too – no?

  2. Colonel Angus Says:

Paul Gruber 2 times in 91’ and 92’. Ahhhh, back in ancient times.–Joe

Wow…..All Pro in year 2……what an accomplishment!!!

  4. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Rogers my a$$…

    Congrats to Tristan

  5. Buc1987 Says:

    Wow!

  6. a-bomb Says:

I don’t understand the media’s love affair with that nut Rogers. Leading the league in yards and TD’s isn’t enough to be an all-pro QB? Come on. I guess we will just have to settle this on the field (again).

  7. David Says:

    Well deserved!

  8. Nutterbuccer Says:

Didn’t he make second team last year ?

  9. Timbucs2 Says:

Lolz @ Rogers getting it over Brady. Probably means he’s getting MVP too.

Way to go Wirfs! What a stud.

  10. BA4President Says:

Paul Gruber was never an AP First Team All Pro. Wikipedia is incorrect. He received no AP All Pro designation in 1991 and I’m not sure if 1992 was Second Team or none at all, but it definitely wasn’t AP First Team All Pro

  11. 40Forever Says:

Brady made second team, not first.

  12. Swampbuc Says:

Too bad the organization is so bad at building an offensive line through the draft.

  13. Infomeplease Says:

TB12 Deserves the QB#1 spot Not Rogers!!! Did anyone check the stats???? Brady blows Rogers away in almost every stat!!!!! Come on now!!!!

  14. MadMax Says:

I knew it when i was pushing hard for us to draft him…clearly the best of the top 4 who went.

  15. Dan Says:

Anyone else remember when fans were freaking out that we had to give up a 4th for this guy?

  16. WillieG Says:

Brady vs Rodgers for all the individual awards and accolades. I say BS when Rodgers gets recognition instead of Brady, but am I being a homer?

It’s my contention that Brady has had to overcome so much more as far as injuries to his top offensive players, and he has done so while leading the league in all the important categories.

But I don’t know much about Green Bay’s’ injury situation. Did AR have to overcome as many injuries to his skill position played as Brady? If so, he’s in the discussion for MVP. If not, those who give him all the accolades have serious credibility issues.

  17. Pickgrin Says:

Yea – Paul Gruber popped into my head while reading.

Congrats to Wirfs – well deserved.

That IS some BS for Rodgers to beat out Brady for All Pro….

Brady was #1 in every important statistical QB category this year. Rodgers wasn’t even close to #1 in some of those categories.

Hopefully it plays out differently for the MVP voting which Brady should win without question – especially considering he’s doing all this at 44 years old.

  18. Winny Testaverde Says:

Paul Gruber came to mind as well…researched it…All Pro in 1991 & 1992…on some awful teams. I remember he was almost traded straight up for Tim Brown as well.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

In 92, Gruber was 2nd team AP All-Pro and 1st team Newspaper Enterprise Association. This triggered my memory, and yeah, back then there were the 2 All-Pro teams, and by memory, the NEA one was the bigger deal since it was considered to be more influenced by coaches and players as opposed to the AP which are a bunch of nerds fake news reporters who never played a day of football in their lives. BUT, I could have that wrong, I’m doing it solely by memory.

Also Brady is the 2nd team AP, that’s how the teams work, you get 1st team and 2nd team.

Weird thing, however, there’s no second team RB, it just says vacant. I’d have at least given it to Patterson, the guy did amazing work on a bad team with no run blocking, I think he was easily the best RB we saw all year, even if he was actually a WR.

  20. SPARKY Says:

Do you guys know how many cities Brady has beaten out of playoffs and super bowl wins? These old AP sportswriters have great memories. Jealousy and envy are powerful. Larry Bird won 3 mbps in a row. The next year he had his best year yet and finished third in MVP voting. They are writers, need something new to write about.

  21. Devinwhiteshorse3 Says:

Good job tristan!!! Congrats my guy!

  22. kaimaru Says:

    @Colonel Angus

That’s not true Paul Gruber was selected as 2nd team those years. Not first team like Wirfs this year.

  23. Chris K Says:

Actually Wirfs was our only 1st team All-Pro. We had others voted ALL-Pro, just weren’t 1st teamers

  24. Colonel Angus Says:

Gruber was 1st team in 92’ and 2nd team in 91’. Calm down Karens.

  25. D-Rome Says:

Do you think this All-Pro vote is a precursor to the MVP vote?

  26. BucEmUp Says:

Hes going to be hard to afford in a couple years

  27. SlyPirate Says:

    Great job, Wirfs! Well deserved.

    Regarding Rodgers and TB12
Even if TB12 was still on NE … Hell, even if TB12 played for the Saints (whom I loathe), I’d still give him MVP and All-Pro accolades for what he did this year.

  28. Crickett Baker Says:

If Rogers wins over the Bucs in the SB he will get MVP. I think they are the only team that could possibly beat us. Oh well. I have never prognosticated until now.

  29. Jeff Says:

So the writers don’t think Tim Brady is an All Pro QB? This is all very confusing.

  30. Buczilla Says:

Maybe a handful are esteemed on that panel of mostly good ole boy hacks. Brady not getting 50 of 50 is all the proof you need of their bias. David is the poster child for these cretins lack of integrity. The fact that a players legacy depends on the whims of these buffoons is absurd.
