Playoff Lenny The Leader

January 24th, 2022

Proud Buc.

While Tom Brady didn’t tip his hand regarding retirement, a guy Brady helped recruit (and whose old team tried to blacklist) seemed to very much reveal his thoughts of playing more seasons in Tampa.

Playoff Lenny was a late addition to the Bucs last season after he was a late-August cut by the Jags. After a rocky few months that saw Playoff Lenny damn near throw in the towel in frustration over a lack of carries, he manned up and quickly became a key figure in the magical Bucs run to the Super Bowl title.

This season, he not only developed into a key weapon for Brady in the pass game, but he became a team leader. And that was evident after such a tough, season-ending loss last night to the Rams.

The Bucs looked down and out at halftime, and Playoff Lenny wouldn’t have it. He then tried to get his teammates mentally right.

“They came out and gave it everything they had,” Playoff Lenny said. “I’m proud of this group. I’m proud of these guys.

“And I’m happy to call myself a Buccaneer.”

Would Joe re-sign Playoff Lenny, the soon-to-be free agent? In a heartbeat. Playoff Lenny just turned 27 and he is a core reason the Bucs are now considered winners.

I’d like to see Lenny come back at a reasonable RB price range. If not, rookies and FA can help fill the role

  2. Jersey buc Says:

Absolutely he’s a priority to bring back! Godwin also. There def is some money to move around with some of these guys who won’t be back. Really hoping to get Brady back one more year

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As long as we don’t overpay Lenny…….we can make it work with Lenny, Keyshawn, Gio & a FA or rookie. Rojo is a good runner, but not complete enough to pay too much for.

Lenny & Godwin are important to Brady & what Brady wants, Brady gets.

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

Lombardi-Playoff Lenny is a keeper, simple as that

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. Bruce Blahak Says:

Vaughn and draft picks…RBs are a dime a dozen..Money for the lines, defense and Godwin! Only if Lenny becomes “Discount Lenny”…

  6. zzbucs Says:

@ August 1976 Buc ….I agree….But at the right price.

Salary cap is not as comfortable as many say…… We will need to invest smartly….
And strategy will be around on what TB12 decides…..
Several players will not be here next season, same as some coaches…..JL will be a key figure….

  7. TiredBucsFan Says:

    Keep him in Tampa!

  8. August 1976 Buc Says:

Yes JL, But Greenberg is the Capologist, he is the one doing financial gymnastics to make anything happen.

I do not know, but hopefully Lenny wont be crazy with his demands, we will see.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

I like Bernard and RoJo as well but RoJo has mental issues that hinder his performance and can take that sh*** somewhere else.

  10. Killian Says:

    Hell yea you resign Lenny.

  11. Mike Says:

If Brady retires, any chance we can get Rodgers?

  12. Ed Says:

If I was drafting for this team, all I would do is select offensive and defensive lineman. There was no push from those lines yesterday. Whenever they play the physical defenses they get pushed around, whenever they play a physical offense, they don’t sack quarterback. You can never have too many solid offensive and defensive lineman. They can be coached up.

On the other hand the Bucs secondary was disgraceful yesterday. The Rams moved the ball through the air and the long Kupp TD was busted coverage and the game winning catch, busted coverage. We have to upgrade coaching secondary. That was a choke job by the DB’s. Good coaching staff by Rams, Bucs game plan stunk.

  13. bucs4life Says:

I’m all for re-signing him. But to what end? Re-sign him so Leftwich can have him running 10 times per game and Brady throwing 55?!

  14. Bucfan81 Says:

He needs a long term deal. Give him a 4 year contract he deserved it and really grew the past 2 years he has been here.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Absolutely resign him, if Brady is here or not!
He is a great running back and a team leader.

  16. LVMYBUCS Says:

Why don’t they let those idiots Bowles and Leftwitch do a press conference so the press can ask them WTF?

  17. David Says:

    Fournette, Godwin, Jensen, Davis…
    Must sign the all back.

  18. LVMYBUCS Says:

I would give my right arm to have a Sean Payton type head coach just because he seems like a coach that knowS how to bring out the best in a player. Hey Joe may I ask a question? HOW DO THE BUCS LOSE TO THE SAINTS OVER AND OVER AND THE RAMS OVER AND OVER, DO THE COACHES NOT LOOK AT THE FILM AT ALL TO FIX THE RECURRING PROBLEMS.

  19. Free agent Says:

Where will the Buc’s get the money to sign those four guys (David Said)

  20. LVMYBUCS Says:

^ by getting rid of some of this dead weight players we have on this roster

  21. LVMYBUCS Says:

Dead weight: Johnson, Howard, RoJo Vaugh, Brate ect. ect.

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

The man balled out. Why, why, why did they abandon the run with Brate as lead blocker? Once BL went single back set Rams shut it down. Did anyone notice when Bucs were staging the comeback Brady shook off one of BL’s ccalls and gave WTF face? Funny how all the scoring came AGAIN during hurry up O when Brady was calling the plays. I actually feel bad for those who have to continue to watch and support this team. One SB win and the majority became a bunch of premadonas. BA should be fired alone for supporting his ST coach and promoting Darden. Never seen a more scared player in my life time.

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

LVM, good call, ya Johnsons a real keeper. NoT!

  24. DBS Says:

Keep Lenny say bye to Rojo.

  25. allbuccedup Says:

Sign Godwin, Lenny, Jensen and Cappa draft defense! Then Brady will be back.

  26. zzbucs Says:

I wouldn´t pay big money for Carlton Davis…..Not in a million years…….Average CB

  27. Ash Says:

For the right price sure but it’s a running back you don’t pay that much for running backs other higher priorities for the bucs than Lenny that they n ed to focus on that slot cb mainly smb needs to not see the field anymore

  28. Ash Says:

And they need a wr3 badly because it isn’t Tyler Johnson. Tyler seems to be a slow career backup

  29. SKBucsFan Says:

He’s a keeper. I’m hopeful that he gives the Bucs a hometown deal.

  30. SKBucsFan Says:

I wouldn’t sat Vaughn is dead weight. He’s inexpensive and could still have an impact. It would be dumb to give up in him at this point.

  31. Steven007 Says:

I like Lenny but he’s a tier two, not tier one priority. Many many tier one guys we need to resign. Jensen, Godwin, etc. Obviously the entire off-season hinges on Brady’s decision to come back or not. If he does most tier 1 and some tier 2 priorities will be resigned.

  32. Wild Bill Says:

Ya Ash, Tyler has hands of stone. Way too many balls go right thru his hands. And he only has average speed and agility. We need Lenny and Godwin back. Draft needs are stud blocker for Oline, wideout with size and speed and hands, defensive line, outside linebacker and defensive backs. and qb if Brady retires. Haha, fat chance getting all that in the draft. May have to bid high for some free agents. COOPER CUPP KILLED US TWICE THIS YEAR!!! On that last pass that cost us the game our one high db was hung out to dry when the Bucs went all out blitz. Nobody in the NFL has covered Cooper man to man. He is the number one stud receiver in the NFL. Big, fast, great hands, etc. That defensive blitz call cost us overtime chance to win. Big turnover year with our old vets. Hard to replace them all. And not many solid backups on the team. Brady and Gronk likely gone. Gloomy outlook for next season.

  33. Defense Rules Says:

I’d re-sign Lenny in a heartbeat whether or not TB12 returns. What more can folks ask of a RB: he can run, he can catch, he can block with the best of them. Our RB position group is mediocre without him. And on top of that, he’s a leader.

Spotrac has his Market Value listed at $6 mil a year for a 2-year contract. Personally I think that $24-$25 for a 4-year contract is perfectly doable even given our 2022 salary CAP situation. But to go along with re-signing Lenny, I’d also re-sign Cappa & maybe Jensen (depends on his asking price) & hopefully bring back Stinnie. With our OLine, Bucs can be a very solid running team, and that’s what we never truly took advantage of this year.

  34. Listnfrmafar Says:

DR, who taught Lenny how to catch, when he first came to the Bucs he to had hands of stone. Brady helped enhance Lenny’s work ethic and dedication. To be honest at first I thought Vaughan should have started the game but Lenny was one of the few that was prepared and ready to ball out and boy did he. He’s a keeper for sure.

  35. Duane Says:

Lenny will be back. He gives the offense so many options, and he IS a classic 3 down back. You have to pay your players that produce for you, and cut bait on the ones that underperform. Paired with the O line we have, Lenny is still viable, and in particular if this team needs to bring a young QB along in the future.

  36. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Sometimes losses bond teams together. He will be an essential piece moving forward!

  37. geno711 Says:

    @DR Yes!

  38. Cjac84 Says:

I’ve been a huge fan of Lenny and I certainly hope he stays in Tampa. I hope they offer him at least a three year deal. He’s really made a good name for himself here in Tampa and has really rubbed off on me,

  39. Outsider Says:

I highly doubt he comes back if Brady doesn’t. He follows the money if TB12 retires.

  40. Cobraboy Says:

Him and Vaughn are the only RB’s on this team I’d keep.

Same with Godwin, Evans, and Miller @ WR. Fill in with the draft & FA for the rest.

  41. TomR Says:

Essential. Playoff Lenny should be part of the Buc “core” next year along with Evans, Godwin, Vaughn, and Jensen. Not ready to talk about the Defense…

  42. Bucs Guy Says:

Sign Lenny and Bernard. Pick up a low cost RB in FA or UFA after the draft. Need to determine the plan for AB replacement and re-sign Godwinat WR. Unfortunately, may need to choose Jensen or Capa due to cap limits. Will need to draft a TE on day 2. OJ is gone, Brate could be traded and Gronk won’t stay if TB12 retires.

Then we need to look at the D.

  43. unbelievable Says:

Him and Evans were the only guys on offense who played hard the entire game.

Everyone else didn’t wake up til the 2nd half.

    O-line was simply atrocious.

Oh, and a big F@ck You to Todd Bowles for the worst play call in post season history.

  44. Buczilla Says:

Lenny’s a good running and good for the team. Re-signing him should be an easy decision for Licht.

  45. Peter Says:

Play off Lenny needed to sit down at the 1 yard line! The fact that he scored cost us the game.
