Perspective On Mike Evans’ Greatness That Isn’t About His Streak

January 10th, 2022

Mike Evans

More needs to be said about the best receiver in Bucs history. And Joe thinks it’s important take a moment to put aside thoughts of Evans’ NFL record that will stand for many years.

Every fan knows the record. Evans is the only man to have seven consecutive 16-game seasons of 1,000 yards receiving or more to start a career. And he made it eight yesterday in the first Game 17 of an NFL campaign.

But Joe thinks that’s sadly overshadowing what Evans has accomplished as a touchdown maker. Consider that his two touchdowns yesterday gave him 75 for his 122-game, regular-season career.

That ties Evans for 36th on the all-time list with Dez Bryant and Hall of Famer James Lofton. Bryant needed 119 games to get there; Lofton played in 233 games.

For more perspective, Evans has two more TD catches than Packers stud and five-time Pro Bowl receiver Davante Adams. They both were drafted in 2014.

If Evans has just 10 touchdowns next season, he could vault into a tie for 16th on the all-time receiving touchdown list. Sixteenth!

Joe just hopes Bucs fans realize Evans’ greatness, and hopefully future Hall of Fame selectors are paying attention. Joe can’t always figure out what those folks are thinking.

Great guy and football player wish he had more speed he would be even more killer receiver. But I take him any day over any of these other cats.

  2. buc15 Says:

Great player & even greater man

  3. Mtbucsfan Says:

His selflessness and team first attitude have been tremendous. He learned a lot from VJax on how to carry himself and respect the game. He has been my favorite Buc since Atrain and Brooks. Wish he would of been healthy enough to get it in 16 games. Maybe next year!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What a solid Buc star……he went through all the down years and survived America’s QB……..actually, he caught many balls from Jameis……who forced it to him regularly…..
He is one Buc player that every NFL team would want on their roster.

  5. ClodHopper Says:

He has the durability, the stats, and the ring. He has to be first ballot IMO.

  6. PanhandleBuc Says:

We are very blessed to have Mike!! Great player and even better person…which is rare! I never want to see him wear any other colors!

  7. Miller5252 Says:

It’s amazing how different a story is if you miss one word…. Joe, I thought you put Evans was the best receiver ever…. I thought you might still be drinking big storm this morning after watching all the great football yesterday. Haha Evans hands down is Bucs best receiver ever and I hope he just goes off this Super Bowl run being the beast he is!

  8. SB Says:

    He’s a Bum. Trade him now! 🤦‍♂️

  9. Bucs Win Says:

    SB, your a moron.

  10. SB Says:

I guess facetiousness is over your head Bucs Win.
I was making fun of other posters but thanks.

  11. SB Says:

Also the proper syntax is “You’re a moron”

  12. Ron says Says:

He is a football player like Gronk plays for the team and plays when hurt. Our success is based on players like that, and we got quite a few others on this team like that. We have talent but heart is what wins games so even though we lost talent in AB the team’s heart got stronger going into the playoffs. So, while AB is promoting his new song, “Full of Sh-t and Malice”, we will be going for history winning back-to-back SB.

  13. JasonR Says:

In a way, Evans alone is now our previous equivalent of AB-Godwin-Evans. Seems if there was ever a super dude up to that Herculean task it’s him.

Of course, he’ll get help from the other WRs (Go Scotty!), but let’s all hope Evans makes some hugely spectacular plays… in honor of his fallen Bucs bro, Godwin, and to show up that damn quitter AB.

GO BUCS and WIN IT ALL!!!

  14. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

He made Johnny Janeiro and James Winston look like real QBs, and you see the GOAT leans on him when the chips are down.

  15. Bird Says:

    Bucswin

Cmon now that was obvious sarcasm if you have read posts over the years

Great thing about mike too. He doesnt complain when he doesn’t get the ball some games

  16. Guinness Says:

    He is SO DAMN GOOD!
And he plays hurt too. AB could learned so much from him.
He could end up being the best Buc’s player in our history. He’s already top 5.

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Hey joe thing is Evans only played 16gms this year so his record is more than legit.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Mtbucs

I think he did do it in 16…

  19. Man Child Says:

Such a low key guy who doesn’t get nearly enough respect for all he does. That play he got his 1,000 yards for the season on was a scary deal. Everyone with any sense said had their stomach drop. Glad to know he’s alright we need him now more than ever.

  20. Duane Says:

He will get his recognition when all is said and done. His greatness has been mired by historically bad defense and a carousel of QBs. ME13 is going to be a more dangerous player this postseason because Brady is running out of reliable options. He is in his prime, and has held his ego in check, feed him early and often and let him carry this team. Double nickel is still top Buc, but another successful post season, and I think we may have a contender. May his hammies remain pliable for 4 more games!

  21. David Says:

4 more years of 1000 yards and 8- 10 touchdowns will put him between 13,000-14, 000yards and over 100 touchdowns.
    Sure fire HOF.

The receivers trying to get into Canton right now Steve Smith, Torry Holt, Anquan Boldin, Andre Johnson….
All are approximately between 13 to 14 1/2 thousand yards and 60 to 80 touchdowns.

  22. DFW Buc Fan Says:

Add in his last two years at Texas A&M and he has 10 consecutive seasons of 1000 yards. What a career and great draft pick.

  23. John Collins Says:

It is time for #13 on the 13th of February in la la land

  24. sauron's eye Says:

Jerry Rice has the all time 1000 yard season steak at 11. Evans could beat it. He is a hall of fame stud receiver and just a great guy. We are lucky to have him on our team.

  25. rrsrq Says:

I remember Buddy Ryan talking about Chris Carter, all he does is catch TDs, one of the strangest comments ever. ME may not be flashy, but he gets the job done. I just need hime to have a spectacular playoff run all the way to the Super Bowl to put a nice bow on the gift we have

  26. captivajim Says:

It was great to see him stiff arm that DB with that catch/run just before the half.. Gronk also said that play was a spark for Bucs. it was 1st time I’ve seen that level of aggressive play from him this yr ..

  27. alaskabuc Says:

With all due respect to Brooks and Selmon, Mike is going to end his career as the greatest Buccaneer to ever lace them up.

  28. Buczilla Says:

Mike is the best offensive player that we have ever drafted and it’s not even close. Dunn and Alstott were amazing and fun to watch, but they are not hall of famers. Davante is a nice player, but Mike, even with mostly shlub quarterbacks throwing him the ball has had the better career.

  29. unbelievable Says:

    LOL SB!

Paging Robert, Pete and the 3 other morons who constantly say we should trade the best WR in Bucs franchise history…

    Future HOFer for sure!

@Mtbucsfan – Evans only played 16 games this season, so…

  30. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Ha Ha SB you scurred lil Bo Peep Bucs Win away. Shouldn’t use such big words it’ll confuse him. Should be embarrassed of himself not knowing what sarcasm looks like.

  31. Dyno-White ! # 45 Says:

The record means a lot to us locally, but not nationally. It got a 1 sentence and one graphic acknowledgment on tv yesterday.

We are lucky to be the NFL’s top draw for 2 years. Evans gets overlooked while AB is spoken of like a legend. I bet even the announcers of the game didn’t know about that record until it happened.

BTW, Evans got 1k yards in his first 8 years, which is more times than AB got over a 12 year span.

  32. #1bucsfan Says:

We are blessed to have him an watch him turn into the WR he is today. ME13 is a beast.

  33. #1bucsfan Says:

Would love to see ME13 put the offense on his back and March us to another SB with TB12 throwing it to him all the way

  34. Day 1-76 Says:

C’Mon. What Bucs fan in his right mind can’t see that? I never met him before but he seems like a real deal person as much as an Absolute Football Star!! HoF or the voters need to be arrested.

  35. Austin Says:

Stats are there, record is there, the ring is there, HOF for sure
