Devin White Calls For Energy

January 9th, 2022

Was he talking about the fans packing The Licht House? Or was he talking about his defensive teammates?
Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White took to Twitter after today’s clobbering of the Panthers to call for energy.

But it’s unclear where he was directing his message after the Bucs defense came out super flat to start today’s game against a bad Carolina offense, much like they did against the miserable Jets last week.

Joe hopes the Tweet is White’s way of pumping himself up. He missed another sack opportunity on a blitz today. Sam Darnold, as QBs have done often this season, side-stepped White streaking up the gut. He finished with 3 tackles for the game and had just 10 total tackles over the Bucs’ final three games.

After exploding and looking like the old Devin White against Buffalo and being Mr. Everywhere against the Saints the following week, White got real quiet in an hurry down the stretch.

The “why” matters little now. Whatever is affecting White, he needs to revive his role as the Energizer Bunny/Tazmanian Devil of the Tampa Bay defense.

“Hella energy,” as White would say.

One hell of a rushing team is up next in the Eagles, and the Bucs need White to be on his game so Tom Brady gets plenty of time with the football.

I think he needs the energy more then anybody. Another game without him doing much of anything. Dudes a stud and needs to play like it. And quit running right by the QB!

  2. asdf Says:

This better be aimed at himself. I just rewatched the highlights. DW put some really bad effort on film. Hopefully he can’t find his playoff form in hurry. Very uninspired effort today

  3. PanhandleBuc Says:

He’s had better playing days!! He had to be taking about Ray Jay. The crowd sounded dead on TV and we know the Philly fans travel in flocks!!

  4. Wild Bill Says:

Happiness is the Saints not making the playoffs!!!!!! Bring on Philly. I lived there for two years. History of being choke artists. Get past them and hopefully be at near full strength for 2nd round. GO BUCKS!!! 13 and 4 is awesome given the injuries. Very proud of the team. Need some of those defensive starters back sooner the better.

  5. AtlBuc Says:

Watching White “chase” Darnold, its obvious he has not regained his speed since his injury

  6. Mike C Says:

Fans did good today in a tough to get up for game, White is Right, We need the NEXT level next week Buc fan, they did it without us last year, we owe this team EVERY THING WE GOT next week buc fans!

  7. Bird Says:

I agree. He needs to get energy for himself. May have missed two sacks

Missed one huge tackle. And just seemed ehh. Maybe he just feels more comfortable with lavonte next to him. We need all guys back.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

    He’s got to be hurt…

A quad and a hip injury is bad for a guy who relies on crazy speed and stop / Start ability.

JTS concerns me. Yes he chased a couple plays down 25 yards downfield, but that’s really not the object of his position. Way too much standing and watching. Rookie wall after a year off, I’m thinking.

13-4 after this years problems is amazing. Just don’t know if we have near enough left.

  9. Kgh4life Says:

Devin White needs to play hella better next week. Devin White’s play has dramatically dropped off this season, very disappointing for a top 5 pick.

  10. geno711 Says:

I do not think it is standing around from JTS as much as him not recognizing the play and getting sucked into a pass rushing move without 1st protecting his outside containment.

  11. gotbbucs Says:

He looks like he forgot how to play football. Angles look bad. Reads look off.
It’s become very apparent that he is Robin and David is Batman.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

I assume he’s saying he wants energy from the crowd, they need to show-up next week and be loud, be wild.

I will tell you, in the 90s and early 00s, those playoff crows in Tampa were were loud and rowdy crowds. We don’t really get that anymore, I think because every a-hole has a camera constantly recording everything. In the old stadium, every single game, you’d have multiple chicks going topless, visiting fans ending up wearing someone’s beer, lots of non-PC language, in particular about what a meat Packer is. I do miss the 90s, it was so much fun, fun that people who are like 20 now never experienced in their constantly monitored and recorded world.

  13. BucsBro Says:

There were 5 realistic MVP candidates coming into today. Rodgers, Brady, Kupp, Taylor and Burrow. 4 of them lost. Only Brady won.

The only two players who should be in the hunt now are Brady and Rodgers. The two teams finished tied with the best record in the NFL. Yes, Pack has the #1 seed but they never beat the Bucs head to head.

Brady has more yards and TD’s. He played every game. He should be the MVP.

I won’t scream if Rodgers wins, but I will scream if anyone besides those two wins. There is no one else this year.

  14. David Says:

They need White, Shaq, JPP & LVD. STUFF THE RUN !! Suh, Gholston, Vea!
I have no doubt the offense can drop over 30 on the Eagles.

Get up early and force them to pass and unleash a pass rush

  15. David Says:

For the record, we have all gotten on the defense this year for various reasons BUT….. Did you know?

Only the Bills & Patriots have given up less points than the Buccaneers out of all the playoff teams
and they have given up the fewest out of all the NFC playoff teams.
On top of that, only the Cowboys have scored more on offense

  16. Rod Munch Says:

    David – that’s a fun stat, I didn’t know it.

Also, to think, if we do get back JPP, Shaq and David, without losing anyone else, it will be the first time since the 1st quarter of game 1 this year where the entire starting defense is on the field.

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I don’t think Devin White’s issue is a lack of energy. He’s like a chicken running around with no head. He’s no Lavonte David. More like Kwon Alexander.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

David – The problem playing against the Eagles, is they keep their safeties back, don’t give up big plays, have very good LBs as well, you have to win with long sustained drives, not quick drives where you get big plays.

They’re at home, so they might get 30 since the scoring is so high at home, but it could be more like a 24-17 type of game, although I’d gladly take a 49-0 blowout.

  19. Ben green Says:

He’s a phenomenal athlete. Sometime that gets in the way of technique, especially if you’re not coached properly. Geno, ur spot on as far as his lack of contain goes. setting the edge is paramount, and when the bucs give up a big run, he’s usually the reason. They should roll next week, but it’s especially something to watch with a highschool offense like the eagles run

  20. PSL Bob Says:

THe Bucs game wasn’t on TV over here in SE FL, so I had to listen to it on the radio. You’d hardly know White was in the game from the radiocast. Hope we get Lavonte back for the playoffs. I think LVD is what energizes White. They’ve even said that they like to compete against one another on the field to see who gets the most stops or makes the biggest play.

  21. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Outside of a fantastic stretch of play in the postseason last year, Devin White has been mediocre at best. Can’t cover in the passing game, poor processing, bad angles… He’s a great athlete but not a good football player. Hopefully he can heat up again in the playoffs, we need his splashiness to show up again!

  22. Beeej Says:

    Well said BucsBro

  23. Infomeplease Says:

13 -4 The best record in the NFL(tied).. Good Start!! THE REAL SEASON STARTS NEXT WEEK!! GET HEALTHY!! PLAY FAST!! PLAY PHYSICAL!! PLAY SMART!! PLAY ENERGIZED!! PLAY IN CONTROL!! PLAY TO WIN!! GO BUCS!!

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

    He he aint hurt……
he has some splaining to do

  25. Mike C Says:

Calling out the fans, Bring it next week!!! IT IS OUR TIME!!!

  26. David Says:

No Shaq and JPP outside, no LVD patrolling the middle.
He’s been asked to cover a lot more.

Doesn’t excuse the fact that when he does get his chances to blitz he has not been finishing this year, but the D injuries have affected his play it seems

  27. David Says:

    Munch

Yeah but at this point the Buccaneers should know what to do because I think it’s about 8 weeks straight now where every team plays tight coverage with two safeties over the top against them.

This game is going to be all about the Bucs stout run defense getting back to form with Shaq, JPP, & LVD back in action.

My friend was at the Vet when we beat Philly for our first super bowl. He covered the lightinning for the old Tampa Trib. They asked him to cover the game and wright a colume since we were playing the Flyers in Philly. He put me in his article. We had season tickets as teenagers.

He called me during the game and guess where I am at. I could hear the crowd. I was F you jerk. Ha ha. But classic.

  30. Brian Says:

    And we closed the Vet!

  31. Richard Says:

Stud? I don’t think so…not even close!!! As I’ve said repeatedly over the past year, he’s easily the most OVERRATED LB in the league. This guy has sucked the entire season. He can’t tackle, he can’t cover, he can’t bring the QB down, he can’t shed a block…his next one will be his first. He’s totally lost out there and without LD he’s not even an average LB. Watch the games again people…he’s freakin terrible…A stud, not even close!!!

  32. Rod Munch Says:

David – The Bucs should know how to play it, just saying the Eagles been doing it all year, not as a mid-season adjustment, or a one-game one-off vs Tampa. They’re just very good at it.

Just saying people shouldn’t be dismissing the Eagles as an automatic win, and so far that’s what I’m seeing. Their offense is doing exactly what this defense can’t stop right now, and their defense is doing what gives our offense the hardest time. Doesn’t mean the Bucs will lose or anything, but I do think it will be a game, at least for 3+ quarters for certain, I don’t see the game being a blowout.

  33. Rod Munch Says:

The idiots here are amazing… David is the only starting LB we have, and people wonder why he’s not being productive.

Gee, I wonder if that has to do with the fact he’s the only starting LB we have. Don’t you morons know that other teams can make adjustments, you know, to take away the only starting LB we have?

White is not helped by Bowles. White is an amazing, top tier LB when he’s running forward. He’s a below average LB when he’s backpedaling. Simple solution, never have him backpedaling. Why Bowles has yet to figure this out, to just have White disrupting every play by having him blitz up the middle on every play, I don’t get.

  34. sasquatch Says:

We need Lavonte David back for the playoffs… badly. And Shaq… We’ve just been gashed by the run lately… not disastrously so, but very uncharacteristically.

  35. captivajim Says:

David is right…we have to get the lead early ,, manage the clock with Fournette back so our defense dosen’t get gassed– as our guys will be chasing jalen hurts quite a bit ..with his speed, JTS could be important guy…

Our O-line has been great and they have been a solid unit this yr for Brady–keeping him on his feet..

  36. Bucamania Says:

White needs to step it up bigtime. He taken a big step back this season. Hope he finds it in the playoffs.

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

We really need White and David to go Mad Dog in the playoffs. White is playing injured. But I think he will rise when we need him to.

  38. DG060 Says:

We’re going to be watching you very closely Sunday Devin. Snap out of your funk
    now!!!!
