Defeating Jalen Ramsey

January 22nd, 2022

Focus of Rams’ defense?

Rams stud cornerback Jalen Ramsey is a lot of things. Loud. Brash. Arrogant. But he backs it all up.

And Ramsey is also another thing: a damn good football player. Because of injuries, both physical and mental, the Bucs are basically down to Mike Evans and whatever else the Bucs can cobble together who is left standing. It’s ugly.

So it seems irresponsible to believe the Rams and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris won’t have Ramsey on Evans full-time, unless Morris has Ramsey tail Rob Gronkowski periodically.

Going over the tape of the Bucs’ win over the Eagles last week, Matt Bowen of “NFL Matchup on BSPN” found a play he liked that may just work on Ramsey. It’s the Tom Brady-to-Evans pass for a 36-yard touchdown that was the kill shot in the game (or as Gene Deckerhoff would say, “dagger,”) to give the Bucs a 31-0 lead.

Bowen breaks down the play and shows how a corner who is aggressive in the run game can easily be sucked in by the nuance of the play at the line of scrimmage. It’s pretty cool and well-disguised.

Evans will get his. Johnson and Miller are going to have to step up

  2. Adrnagy Says:

This is the game that will decide if evans is a HOF.

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

LOL, perhaps this will be OJ Howards breakout game ?

  4. #1bucsfan Says:

I readily do hope our defense plays like it did last year in the playoffs tomorrow. We need them. Let’s goo

  5. BillyBucco Says:

This is the 2nd game in a row that he said he likes the game plan.
Brady selling the run was a thing of beauty.

Gronk might be unguardable in this game.
    Their safeties are gonna struggle.

  6. Tim in PSL Says:

OJ Howard’s breakout game lol. That should’ve happened years ago. That’s like the gambler that keeps thinking “this’ll be the hand that get’s me back to even”, or like everybody that says “this is the Cowboys year!”. There comes a time to realize a bad investment and just cut your losses.

  7. Bucsfan4ever Says:

Welcome to the Raymond James stadium.
See that old man over there on the opposite side line?
He’s going to keel haul you.
No need to worry about the vultures and seagulls.
We have our very own grave diggers to bury you.
Have a wonderful, albeit long off season.

  8. Bucsfan4ever Says:

    Adios

  9. Lou in srq Says:

Joe, to augment our injured receivers, why not move o j Howard out to receiver? He runs great, and is a huge mismatch for any cornerback

  10. Chris K Says:

@Adrangy, usually a man’s career dictates whether he’s a HOF’er and not one game, but let’s go with what you said because that makes more sense 🤦🏻‍♂️

  11. adam from ny Says:

    ^^^^^^^

yeah let’s just throw out 8 consecutive 1000 yard seasons because it doesn’t matter in the least bit…

attention ME13: nothing you have done up until now counts…lol…just this game… ^^^

as the crackpot above stated, this game and this game only will decide if mike gets in the hall or not…

is it me or are bucs fans just no longer stable on joebucsfan.com ?

    geeeeeez……lol

  12. Bobby M. Says:

I think this game comes down to lots of completions to several different receivers. I could see Fournette ultimately leading in receptions…..possibly Gronk in yards. Ramsey is a top notch CB…..but Brady is an all time best and Evans is HOF material. I dont think they are losing sleep over Ramsey.

  13. SB~LV Says:

Time for one of those games when TB targets and connects with multiple receivers . Time for one of those games for the bottom of the the depth chart to have a GREAT game.

  14. mg Says:

Evans was a Hall of Fame last year.

  15. Chris K Says:

@Adam, unfortunately we are loaded with trolls and idiocy on this site. They disappeared after we won the Super Bowl because they realized how dumb they sound. They have returned hoping and praying we lose this week so they can tell us they are right. It’s the life of a troll! Lol

  16. SufferingSince76 Says:

Adam, a lot of these posters are not Bucs fans. You don’t constantly bad mouth and pick against your favorite team if you’re a fan. I’m sure if Joe checked, many of these bums are the same person.

  17. Bojim Says:

    Evens is HOF material now.

  18. 1sparkybuc Says:

And OJ’s HOF career is just ahead of him.

  19. Jeff Says:

Mike can’t beat this guy. Evans like on Sunday. 2 completions for 8.5 yards. Mark the tape. Rams 30 Bucs 13.

  20. Buczilla Says:

Lol, when we played the Rams earlier in the season, Evans had 8 catches for 106 yards. I’m sure he’s so embarrassed by that poor outing that he won’t even suit up…

I usually avoid feeding the trolls, but I’m cranky without coffee. 🙂

  21. SufferingSince76 Says:

Beat it, Jeff. You will disappear just like you appeared when the Bucs eat Stafford’s lunch.

  22. Defense Rules Says:

Buczilla … ‘I usually avoid feeding the trolls, but I’m cranky without coffee. 🙂’

Aahh yes Buczilla, I know the feeling well. Before the internet they used to just stay under bridges. Now they’re free to roam.

  23. dmatt Says:

    Lou in srq,
I agree, try OJ at wr, he’s a 4.5 fourth, guy same as Evans. At 6.6 he would be a mismatch for small cbs. We should throw in all the marbles for this game. Heck, put Leveon Bell in the slot for Chris Godwin. Let’s go up tempo no huddle. 1985 undefeated Bears with one of the best defense ever came in to Miami n got derailed by Marino with the quick release passes to receivers. Let’s do this!

  24. NeverGIVEup Says:

I think Mike is on a mission to set the record straight about this TEAMs legacy.

AB was the plus one AFTER all 22 starters got resigned.

AB was NOT needed last year, just like he is not needed this year.

Mike being Mike, was all too happy to let AB share in the Glory of last season’s SB run. UNTIL AB tried to clown ME.

NOW Mike is in the processes of setting the record straight. Mike is the glue that has made this team barrable over the last 8 years. AB only succeeded because he was in a system that Mike helped to establish that allows EVERYONE to be an equal part.

If last week’s game was any indication. Mike is about to destroy the Bucs playoff Record books, along with Brady and company.

Time for the NFL to recognize the OG of the era of WRs. Mike does it ALL and is unrivaled in which the way he does it with such Class.

“Who’s your favorite Player”. Mister Derrick Brooks….. Move Over cause it is Mike Evans from now on…

Love you Mike, thank you for all the terrific memories! I am so stoked to see what your about to do from here on out this season and beyond as you pad your HOF resume.

    Lets Fu ck ing GOOOO.

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

Just watched the last game here are the takeaways.

DB coach(es) should be fired. They don’t know how to play off a pick and Edward’s sucks, Jackson blows by the corner and Edward’s as deep as he is covers no one. Also Cockrell was playing Kupp pretty well until as usual the wind blew and Dean left the game. Switched Cockrell to Woods and Delhaney to Kupp (joke).

Rams ran a pick play to score and next series call a PI on Gronk who never touched Ramsey.

Love Lenny but he can’t find a sink hole.

    The forward fumble was BS.

    Stupid penalties AGAIN!

Oline did good, they only got to Brady 3-4 times, expected.

I actually cringed the whole second half watch Gronk block and try to catch a pass. How does a medical staff miss his injuries?

    One sack on Stafford (unacceptable)

Bottom line without that extra receiver Godwin or (thanks BA) AB, no way Bucs can win this game. ObJ can’t take Woods or has Jackson’s speed but with the addition of Akers, they are just too much for Bucs stink arse secondary. Sorry fans, I’m a realist.

  26. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Need Scotty to have a big day. All you OJ lovers. I say put a fork in him, he’s done.

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Really disappointed that Perriman is out…….hopeful we’ve gotten John Brown ready or Grayson back because we desperately need extra speed…
Perhaps we can hit a deep one or two to Scotty because their safeties are weak.
I don’t expect much from Evans……maybe some short 1st down possession completions.
If our Oline can hold up without extra help….Brady will rely on Gronk as he usually does when he needs to.

  28. Greg Says:

@ Listn. blah blah blah. You are falling apart, are you off your meds?

  29. Buc1987 Says:

    Listnfrmafar…is NOT a Bucs fan!

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Greg, it’s a shame you are so ignorant to the game you cannot form your own analysis. This tells me you’re probably a pimpled faces 12 year old that struggles getting through a Madden game. Go slap some Clearasil on and keep reading these posts, you may learn something. Between your piano lessons that is.

  31. NeverGIVEup Says:

So I just watched everyone of Mikes TD catches. His celebrations worth noting.

If someone could get this message to ME for me.

It would be so awesome see Mike, “Randy MOSS” Ramsey and do mimic Terrel Owens by pretending to autograph the football before handing it to a fan.

That would be so Epic and put the Dagger into the debate of his HOF career!

I guess I need to start putting “LOL” in all of my comments. Seems some people need to be couched into having a since of humor and brevity on the BEST EVER, Buc’s blog site.

  32. Duane Says:

What a complete lamer you have to be to come troll on a Bucs fansite. Most of us have experienced 15 + years of the most disappointing football ever played, and now people feel the need to knock the fanbase down a peg? Lives must be particularly challenging to get all them panties in a bunch over Buc football. I know you guys are wearing your Saints, Falcons, and Panthers gear under your troll costume. No reason to hate. Plenty of room on the wagon. Not like the NFC South wins many championships anyways, and in particular when Atlanta and Carolina plays in it.

  33. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Actually Lstn…

Greg’s analysis is spot on.. you’re losing it.

I thought you weren’t gonna post here anymore. Bummer.

  34. mg Says:

    Listnfrmafar – Braintree or Arlington?

  35. SufferingSince76 Says:

Listnfrmafar sounds like the Ndog. If he starts in about loving the game more than anyone else, you’ll know it.

  36. Listnfrmafar Says:

    MG, neither, too far South.

  37. Buczilla Says:

    @Defense Rules

“Aahh yes Buczilla, I know the feeling well. Before the internet they used to just stay under bridges. Now they’re free to roam.”

    Lol
