Ali Marpet Admits All Offensive Linemen Banged Up

January 20th, 2022

Dealing with pain.

Joe remembers late in training camp Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians joked how players may feel OK for the first week or two of the season, but then they will be hurting in some form or fashion the rest of the way.

Today, Ali Marpet pretty much confirmed what Arians said. Each offensive linemen has bumps and bruises, not just Tristan Wirfs or Ryan Jensen.

“There are a lot of tough dudes,” Marpet said of his fellow offensive linemen. “At this point in the year, in order to play offensive line, you are going to be dealing with some stuff.

“Obviously, we are all dealing with different degrees of injuries here. … You have to learn how to play banged up if you can.”

So far the Bucs have had a ton of injuries. Paying taxes to the devil for being so (mostly) injury-free last year, which helped them win the Super Bowl.

The Bucs have won and advanced despite all the injuries, largely because of the offensive line. That unit was injury-free and arguably the team’s best with three Pro Bowlers including an All-Pro tackle.

Now that rock for the Bucs is cracked. Let’s hope that crack doesn’t allow the foundation to crumble.

    There’s that 4 letter word… “hope”

Obviously I want Wirfs to play, but only if he can actually play. I’m not optimistic on that.

I do hope Jensen plays though, mostly so he can give it to Aaron Donald all game long. Maybe get him ejected when he inevitably attempts to choke one of our lineman again…

Lineman are the toughest bastards on the field. They’re also often the most susceptible to injury. The chances of having a healthy line for two consecutive post seasons is almost unheard of. Ben predicted o line injuries because of sheer odds. It took that extra week to prove Ben correct, but it happens. The new playoff format is terrible. A 13-4 club playing on wild card weekend is just wrong. They couldn’t handle the Rams pass rush at full strength, and that was with Godwin and Brown. Even if they all manage to start, they likely won’t be at anywhere near full strength. It’s why Ben is picking the Rams.

    Rams are also banged up.

Joe-you think any gamesmanship here coming out of One Buc?

    Damn 17 game season….. 🙁

We know most OL are banged up at this stage even on the other teams. It’s just a matter of who has a higher threshold for pain. Who can suck it up and still play at a high level.

@Ben, Brown didn’t play that game. It’s called making adjustments, not sure if you watched last post season but our healthy oline was supposed to get killed by WFT and the Saints. How’d that work out? Also, the Chiefs we’re supposed to kick our as$ again but go ahead and keep being a sheep. I’ll take the Bucs all day everyday and if they lose so be it. There are no excuses this time of year

I’m so sick of reading “Ben knows everything.” I wish you’d troll some other site.
We dealt with the injuries in the playoffs last year. Lost Cappa, lost Brown, Godwin couldn’t catch the ball with the broken finger, and Gronk wasn’t the same player he is this year. I think we have fire power. The Rams are a great team, so it could go either way, but with TB12 and the defense starting to fire on all gears, I’m going with the Bucs. Go Bucs!!

The look on Jensen’s face said it all. Don’t touch me, I can do it myself.

Well said Joe – on point and succinct.

All season the D was torn to sheet with injuries.
Now its the O is torn to sheet with injuries.
I’ll take a strong, stifling D over that offense all day in the playoffs.
Our D gets us the win. The O can score enough points to win.
    LFG.

  13. Bucfan Says:

It is easy to say that after a long NFL season that all of the players are Banged up to a small degree.

  14. PanhandleBuc Says:

Everyone who has played the bulk of the season is banged up at this point! Are ya hurt or ya injured? Non story…next!

I wish but I doubt it. NFL really tries to limit how teams report injuries.
Which I never understood. I wish they would do it like hockey:
Just say he’s got a “lower body injury” and eave it at that until he’s back on the field

All week nothing but O-Line Cassandras’, naysayers, and Buckolds. Have some faith and grab some courage, Tampa fans. Have some f**ken fun and let’s go BUCS. Everything going to be just fine. Sometimes the Rams are just another football team, also missing their best tackle, on the road, with a qb without a ton of playoff experience on a short week. Since when do we roster stare and back down!? Eff em! Chill!
