2020 Buccaneer Shares A Tom Brady Story: “When I Ask You To Do Something, You Do It.”

January 21st, 2022

The Goat is not afraid to be intense and physical at practice with teammates.

Former Bucs running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy told a heck of a Tom Brady story today on The Rich Eisen show.

Shady was a third-down back turned permanent backup last season.

One day at practice, per Shady, he was in “a bad mood” after a rep he thought he would get went to another running back.

After the day’s session, Brady called to Shady to work on extra passing routes right then and there. “I like waved it off, like shook my head,” Shady said.

Brady perhaps thought Shady didn’t hear his request and called out to ask again, but Shady “waved it off” again.

What happened next, per Shady, let him know that Brady would not tolerate any non-team-first behavior.

“He came to me and grabbed my arm and said, ‘When I asked you to do something, you do it. I’m not telling you to do something I won’t do,”’ Shady said.

“I was like damn … he let me know, ‘Hey look man, the way I got to this level was not by that. It’s by perfecting the craft and keep going.”

Shady emphasized that he wasn’t pouting or spewing negativity when Brady laid down the law, only “having a little moment” after practice was over.

    👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Lord of the Rings.

  2. Bqen green Says:

Another example of Brady’s infinite wisdom. He learned at the feet of the master. The offense is designed so everyone knows each other’s positions. It’s an option route offense, and everyone must be on the same page to make it work.

  3. Dew Says:

I’m sure John Brown (Smoke) got lots of extra reps after practice the last 2 weeks. He should be ready with BP out.

  4. Marcus Says:

I’m so happy Brady trained under Belichick for twenty years and not the blowhard overrated Arians..

  5. Lamarcus Says:

What’s up with the higher ups here putting their hands on lower level players? Grab me by the arm to demand something….you would be laid to rest. Simple as that

  6. Listnfrmafar Says:

BA never saw it, he cut out early to a presser c to recite the playbook for the next game, then meeting BL for happy hour.

  7. Lesko_Brandon Says:

First in the office, last to go out of the office. That’s a great commitment and discipline to master and get ahead of everybody.

  8. Chris K Says:

Marcus and Lamarcus.. STFU. Go away already

  9. BA4President Says:

Okay @Listnfrmafar… Your attempt to criticize BA is by mentioning he attended his league mandated press conferences?

@Marcus, If you are truly a Bucs fan, than you that that “blowhard overrated Arians” is the most successful head coach your team has ever seen, by a long shot.

If we win this Sunday, that will bring the Bucs franchise playoff win total to 10, 5 of which will be coached by Bruce Arians.

Facts are for the educated. Name calling is for the lazy.

At least it’s easy to separate the two groups.

  10. DoooshLaRue Says:

Shady laying the groundwork for a lawsuit to fund his retirement?

  11. Kev@Inverness Says:

I agree, Chris K. TMax wanna-be Listnfrmafar STFU also. Same BS everyday.

  12. firethecannons Says:

We all have little moments and thanks be to Tom Brady for seeing the field for what it really is.

  13. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady did learn something from BA, how to assault a player. Brady needs work hasn’t quite perfected the diving head slap.

  14. Tim in PSL Says:

I think it’s a good take from Shady. He could’ve gotten all pissed about Brady doing that, but sometimes that’s what leaders do. Sometimes you gotta shake somebody up to make them see another point of view, and despite that minor short term embarrassment, you’ll be better for the experience. Don’t let your ego get in the way of learning a valuable lesson. And good for Shady that he didn’t.

  15. SchlomieBarmitzvahScissorCohen Says:

Very revealing in the sense that athletes that have the opportunity to make a lot of money still need motivation and realistically in the grand scheme, are extremely infantile.

Ramsey did not shut ME13 down last game. ME13 had 8 for 106 yards. What makes you think it will be any different this time?

Disregard that last post of mine. I was talking to Marcus

This is the IDOCY, and that is a very soft word, that I was speaking of.
Go get a life buddy. Tell me what Belicheck’s record is without Brady.
I am waiting. OH and Belicheck is watching the playoffs from the couch like I am
I doubt you watch much football unless it is soccer.

  19. SB Says:

Just like last yr. And next yr.

  20. GenocideD Says:

Good point Tim. Short term, swallow your pride and react in a way that’s going to help the team…. or you can always do jumping jacks in the end zone during a game and run out like a quitter.

  21. Cleanhouse Says:

Probably why shady rode the pine

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

So SB is the ultimate hypocrite. Belichick doesn’t get credit for the wins with Brady but BA does. Who is the idiot???

  23. Bqen green Says:

Hey SB, Bill is the first to admit that players are much more important than coaches. He’s said it over and over again. Bill may have won a ring or two without Brady, but not six. Brady would tell you the same thing. They worked together for 20 years, and did something together that the league will never see again. You appear to forget that Tom Brady walked into a wagon in Tampa. It should’ve been with all the sucking, and first rounders y’all have had. Last year and this have absolutely nothing to do with ole ammonia brain. Go ask coaches and GM’s from around the league, and ask who they’d rather have, an old drunk who gets around practice in a golf cart?, Or Bill.

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

SB, BA record as a HC 86-50-1 without Brady 57-41-1 not exactly earth shaking.

  25. Greg Says:

Look@ Listn. Boy it did not take you too long to really show your true self as you wallow in the gutter. From a self proclaimed D-1 player ( aka D-3 trainer wannabe) straight to the muddy gutter. Pretty smelly down there isn’t it?

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Greg, it’s OK to be in denial. It is not uncommon for fans to be blinded to the facts.I can also understand your emotional feelings toward the Bucs RECENT success and how you would continue to drink the BA koolaid, and that’s fine. Those that are ignorant to the game can’t see the forest through the trees. By all means stay on the BA bandwagon, no one is judging you if you do.

  29. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Sorry Marcus. You don’t know your hmmmhmmm from a hole in the ground. Go away you are obviously no Buc fan.

TB is special no matter who his head coach. BA vs BB is a discussion for that someday after both are retired permanently.

Go Bucs! This game is against the LA Rams and their head coach, a guy named McVay. Go Bucs!

    ——————————————————————–

Belicheat’s record as a HC without Brady is 58-71 – so your point is what?

You don’t have one. Your posts are consistently weak sauce.

Your constant badgering, belittling and bellyaching about one of the NFL’s best coaching staff is getting old.

Tell ya what – Do us ALL a favor – go out into your yaaaahd – get in your caaaaah – drive down to the whaatah and throw your computah into Boston haabah – so jbf comment readers (who actually CARE about this team) – can get a break from your drivel…..

  31. David Says:

    Real leadership.

As opposed to Jameis, eating his fingers and cheering like a cheerleader

  32. Swampbuc Says:

The problem with the internet is that every illiterate unqualified mental vegetable can get a keyboard and spew their uneducated, ignorant bull spit that the rest of us might inadvertently read, hence losing brain function. The world is getting more stupid every day. Evidence – read the above. Brady trying to abuse teammates, BA overrated – this is ludicrous.

  33. adam from ny Says:

why do you guys even feed the trolls ?????

it’s not easy being the troll, you’ve gotta have no life, live in mom’s basement, and keep re-inventing yourself under new names while tweaking your style of speak as well…it takes work between shifts at fantasyland as the mop boy…it’s time consuming…

and all their work is simply geared towards the hope of a response from bucs fans..so if you don’t feed the trolls, in the end they’ve worked pretty hard for nothing…a troll only lives on if you feed him…starve a troll and he can’t survive…

some of these trolls have a rotation of names…do you really think tjmaxxcon or medicate petey just left the building?…they are here to stay because sadly enough, we are their best friends…

    lol

  34. Craig Says:

I have heard it said that Brady knows where the ball is going before the snap.

That can’t happen if some diva doesn’t run the route right. That is why Shady is an ex-Buc.

It might also make Brate a big target this week. His routes have gotten better, as has his blocking.

    GGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got ourselves a tough guy!

He doesn’t take any guff, because he’s HARD…

Hey dummy, first, Brady would pound you into the dirt, he’s much bigger and stronger than you, and has old man strength.

Next, you’d never be in that position, because you’d never had made it anywhere if you actually think you don’t need to take orders from your superiors. You can be a real tough guy while scrubbing the toilets at Burger King.

  36. adam from ny Says:

yeah no one is abusing anyone…the nfl is a touchy feely sport…they’re constantly touching eachother all the time because it is a contact sport – everyone puts their hands on someone…

they smack each others azz, slap each others helmets, pound each others shoulder pads, bang helmets…

it’s part of the game and sport…

in fact yesterday i watched jensen mic’ed up…

he strutted past BA on the sidelines saying “it’s a beautiful day” or “this is a blessed life”, and arians slapped his helmet somewhat like he slapped adams helmet last weekend…

nfl take a look at that!…

also consider BA has a busted up achilles and can’t really walk…

i believe when he smacked adams helmet, he was excited and pissed, got a little ahead of himself with the motion of the slap and with his older body, sort of almost lost his footing since he can’t walk right due to the achilles – therefore, all the movement and motion post smack, seemed a little stumbly and aggrressive…

it was weird but i think the nfl overreacted…

    see jensen mic’ed up video

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Who cares if a 70-year old man smacks a player on the helmet. The kid is wearing a helmet. It’s one of the dumbest non-stories ever. Anyone upset by that should do the world a favor and and drunk drive into a bridge embankment doing about 70mph.

  38. lambchop Says:

    @Larmarcus,

You wouldn’t be on the team long enough to even complain. LOL. This is the GOAT and he flat out puts the work in, so the rest of those MFs better check their soft egos at the door.

  39. adam from ny Says:

    @lamarcus

shady mccoy will tear you a new azzhoe…

then pass you off to tom…

and brady will welcome you to cell block B

  40. 1sparkybuc Says:

I don’t remember Shady having much of an impact in actual games for the Bucs. Now he’s getting paid for his stories about Brady. Where can I find the book, and when is the movie set to come out?

  41. bucschamp Says:

    this is level 10 goat

  42. Oneilbuc Says:

Lol 😆 🤣 all you Brady worshipers have lost yall minds about this guy !! I don’t care how good Brady is or how many superbowls his teams won Shady a sucka for letting Brady do that to him !! But I guess so lol 😆 😅 !!

  43. ClodHopper Says:

When respect is earned, you show respect. When respect is earned and you don’t show respect, you are a chump. In the animal kingdom, you’d be the beta that keeps taking on the alpha until you get ousted from the herd.

  44. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady played with some great defenses and the media has convinced yall to ignore all of those good defenses he has had!! Stop letting the media think for yall and start thinking for yourselves!!

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

Clod ain’t no man gonna put his hands on me and treat me like he’s my daddy bro !! Only one man in my life had the right to do that and that’s my pops who I love !! But ain’t no other man going to handle me like that especially no white man !! Lol 😆 🤣

  46. Mikejp Says:

Oneil, when you deny a fact, you are idiot. TB and Bills are the only 2 persons in Patriots for 20 years. So they must attribute a major roles for 6 SBs, if Belichick cannot get another SB, TB should be the main guy to get 6 SB.

Next year, we will see how important is Tomlin contributing to the success of the Steelers after the Bến’ s retirement.

  47. You gotta be crazy Says:

@SB….. Thanks for TRYING to put the couch haters in their place but there obviously too many other teams fans watching the Goat with envy…..AGAIN!

  48. ClodHopper Says:

    Oneil

A couple weeks ago Chris Simms told a story about putting his hands on Adam Haywards helmet and Hayward lost his spit and freaked out. That’s an example of a guy who has not earned that respect and I get your point.

But in the animal kingdom, you would’ve been one of the ones ousted from the herd before puberty.

  49. You gotta be crazy Says:

@one lil buc…. All you testosterone pumping fools talking all this crap. These guys are huge and don’t feel it take it that way… Youd shut up n do the routes just like them

  50. Oneilbuc Says:

Clod. I don’t live in the animal kingdom bro I’m human !! But if I was apart of the animal kingdom it would be up to God on what animal I would be. But as a man no body has earned the right to put his hands on another man. It’s better ways of doing things bro that’s all I’m saying!!!

  51. Oneilbuc Says:

Mikejp. Billchick is the greatest coach of all times look what he done this year with a rookie quarterback!! He done the same thing with Brady in 2019 with the same receivers Brady had !! And Mike Tomlim is also a great coach and look what he done with Big Ben who couldn’t throw the ball 10 yards. I can promise you one that steelers will be in the playoff hunt!!

  52. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey Oneilbuc, “Shady a sucka with his Super Bowl Ring for letting Brady do that to him !!”
    Fixed that for ya!

Brady is the Captain/Boss/Forman of this team. He wants a member of that team to do something he asks when you make the choice not to, he makes it a personal point to make sure you know what is what. I see this as good leadership. Did he bust him upside the head, kick him in the knee and sweep the leg to get his attention? No, he grabbed his arm and I am sure he purposely squeezed it and voiced his displeasure with his team member. At not taking the offered joint training after practice, as seriously as the Captain/Boss/Forman is, and is just making sure you know.
    Go!! BUCS!!!!

  53. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oneilbucyall where were you when the BA story broke out hitting Adam’s. He grabbed his arm not exactly striking him like the WFT defensive lineman did on national TV. Where is your input then. Could it be because white Brady took Jamaises job. Same story with you, different day.

  54. Eddie Marz Says:

LaMarcus you don’t get it, do you.

  55. Bucschamp Says:

Lol O’Neil. Try googling Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant see how these guys work with their teammates and how successful they are. Tom’s not messing around. Shady was just camping and had an ego glad tom gave him a piece of humble pie

  56. Oneilbuc Says:

I wouldn’t let Jordan or Kobe do that to me . I don’t care who you are you do not have the right to do a any man like that !!

  57. Oneilbuc Says:

Listnfrmafar you ain’t even a bucs fan and plus Jamies is a millionaire. Jamies did something that most football players didn’t do in the country and that’s making it to the NFL . And again I wouldn’t let no man grab my arm like if I’m his child especially a white man !!!

  58. bigdaddio Says:

    adam from ny,
I kinda agree. He was hobbling shuffling along trynig to get Adams’ attention to prevent a really dumb penalty and hit his head instead of shoulder or whatever. It wasnt a punch more like a sweep.
