Teammate Addresses Leonard Fournette’s Maturity

December 1st, 2021

Teammate talks Lombardi Lenny

It’s rare to hear a young player talk about watching the maturation of an established veteran.

But that’s what happened this week when cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Interestingly, Murphy-Bunting was asked what it was like watching Leonard “Lombardi Lenny” Fournette’s four-touchdown performance in Indianapolis. He responded by talking about Fournette re-inventing himself from his early 2020 days in a Bucs uniform.

“Lenny’s a tough, tough back to take down. Just his progression from when he got here til now. You know, his attitude, his demeanor, his work habits, everything has gone arrow-pointing-up direction,” Murphy-Bunting said.

“He just hasn’t looked back. He comes to work every day. He brings entertainment, he brings excitement, he’s fun to be around. He’s very, very, very funny. Such a trash talker, a really good trash-talker actually.”

The story is well known. Lombardi Lenny arrived in a state of shock, stunned that the Jaguars cut him after the 2020 preseason. Then he pouted a bit with the Bucs until Bucco Bruce Arians laid down the law and benched him after the bye week in a December game againt the Vikings. Since then, Lombardi Lenny has been dominant.

It just really stood out to Joe how 24-year-old Murphy-Bunting started talking about Lenny’s maturity and personal growth without being asked.

Says a lot about how far Fournette has come.

We wouldn’t have won in the playoffs last year without him.

    Ditto this year.

I love it — force teams to start worrying about Lenny and the run game and then POW you will see the WRs go off, bigger than ever. The commitment to the run and play action is winning football. Kudos to BA for agreeing to do it and for BL and TB12 to collaborate and implement.

Give the man a lot of credit!

Dude is awesome. Enjoy it Bucs fans while we have this team.

Crazy that we got this guy in his prime. Hopefully he’s got a few years of this type of performance in him and can help keep the Bucs relevant after Brady leaves.

I would love to hear Lenny mic up and trash talk

    Bucschamp.

There was a game they had him mic’d up and it was hysterical because every time he got hit, sometimes hit hard, he giggled. 😂
Now every time I see him getting tackled all I can think of is him laughing while it’s happening

    ^thats great!

similar to Vea, laughing as he bulldozes double teams (while losing teeth)

lenny fits more into the equation more and more as we go week to week…

as a fan and an outsider looking in, he appears to be happy as a buc and starting to grab leadership by the horns too…like the halftime speech players mentioned last week…

lenny and brady are definitely on the same page, and it’s good to see

You sure that wasn’t Gronk in the background giggling because he just face planted a blitzing linebacker? Lenny’s chip on his shoulder was that he wasn’t thought of as an elite RB. Came to the Bucs, saw how Brady, Grink did it and eventually AB and realized that’s what he needed to do to be successful. The future looks bright for Lenny.

Been elated since last year for this signing. No disrespect to RoJo but having 4nette changes the whole attitude of our running game. We are a dangerous group when we execute the offense and having a solid run defense makes us so much more than the sum of our individual parts. LFG Bucs!

    @Swampbuc –

I agree that having teams worry about our rushing attack only opens up the passing game, specifically the play-action.

    GO BUCS!!

  13. Wild Bill Says:

Lenny has also really done great catching passes out of the backfield lately!
