Pro Bowl Means Something To Players

December 24th, 2021

Emotional.

Joe sort of snickers while reading comments from fans, in a modified state of rage, banging on the keyboard, “Who cares about the Pro Bowl?”

Well, enough people care to watch. Otherwise, TV networks wouldn’t shell out millions for the rights to televise it. And only CNN is stupid enough to spend tens of millions on programming America deems unfit for consumption. (“Gunsmoke” reruns in the middle of the day get more eyeballs! Only things more boring than “Gunsmoke” are Anderson Cooper and death.)

If people didn’t care and didn’t watch the Pro Bowl, it wouldn’t exist. Even NFL big-shot Roger Goodell has tried to kill the Pro Bowl but, in the NFL’s version of René Descartes, it creates revenue, therefore it exists.

Ryan Jensen seemed to admit when he learned he made the Pro Bowl this week, he got a moist eye. Yesterday he discussed for the local pen and mic club his reaction.

“It’s amazing. Nine years in the league, coming from a Division II school and getting that recognition – it’s huge and humbling. It’s an honor to be honest. I don’t want to say I was shocked, but I was a little emotional when I found out,” Jensen said.

“It’s something as a player you work towards to be revered as one of the better players in the league and that’s another step in that direction. It was an amazing phone call.”

Joe thinks it is cool that a guy so many football people loved finally got recognition. Official recognition.

As former Giants center Sean O’Hara of NFL Network said this morning on “Good Morning Football,” his favorite center is Jensen.

“I love watching Ryan Jensen down in Tampa,” O’Hara said. “I love how he finishes and plays to the echo of the whistle.”

Don’t we all.

Pete’s sipping on an apple pie moonshine egg nogg smoothie right now. You know Jensen is jacked-up about the probowl b/c he earned it

  5. PSL Bob Says:

Sure, it’s not about the game. It’s about the recognition and opportunity to mingle and party with the game’s marquee players.

Congratulations to our Pro Bowl Center, Ryan Jensen! Now, go out there and block the snot out of some Stinkin’ Panthers D-linemen!

Nobody plays to the echo of the whistle in the Pro Bowl.

  10. Sean Says:

Some of them (unwisely) have contract incentives related to the Pro Bowl so darn right it matters to some guys. Whether or not any Bucs do or not I haven’t checked.

  11. Beeej Says:

Hopefully, Jensen won’t be afforded an opportunity to play

  12. Cobraboy Says:

I’d like to see a study of how much more Pro Bowl designees net contracts are worth…

And people scoffed at how much money we paid for him. Worth every penny now!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Especially for Jensen in a contract year….the Pro Bowl bid is helpful…….but aside from the money…it’s human nature to want to be recognized for what you do…..these guys work hard.& sure they make lots of money….but it’s not just about the money.

  16. Dewey Selmon Says:

List, Thanx. Linda Evans, Farrah, Lynda Carter. Those were the days!

Yeah, whatever, still don’t give flip about the probowl. Great for Jensen, now back to the scheduled programming.

  19. Will Says:

I’m sure some guys probably have bonuses in their contract if they make a Pro Bowl so while some fans may not care to watch it I totally understand why it’s a big deal to the players.

  20. DoooshLaRue Says:

Both my eyes got moist when I heard Durable Donnie didn’t get voted in.

The moisture was tears of laughter.
