“He’s Our Idiot”

December 11th, 2021

Ian Beckles explains.

As usual, former Bucs offensive lineman and current popular local sports radio personality Ian Beckles offered up his weekly take on Bucs happenings.

But this week, before he got rolling in breaking down the Bucs-Dixie Chicks game, Beckles had to get a few things off his chest on his podcast “In the Trenches.” And the subject was furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing, fake-V-card flashing receiver Antonio Brown.

Beckles launched into a passionate sermon about how Brown is — to quote Beckles — “an idiot” — and the Bucs wouldn’t be much better if they cut Brown after he finishes his three-game suspension for trying to pass a fake V-card.

“I heard so many people talk about, “We have to cut him!” Beckles began. “Why? Can I ask a question? Why? He already put his hands on women. So you think falsifying a vaccination card is reason to cut somebody? How about putting your hands on women?

“So my whole thing about AB is, he’s on your team. He’s not a good person. He’s not a good citizen. You cutting him doesn’t make you look better. All you gotta do is cut him and you know what could happen? He could surface on another team and beat your [arse] in the playoffs.

“So I would be shocked if the Buccaneers cut AB. I really would.

“Is it a good look for Bruce Arians? Hell no it isn’t. Is it a good look for the organization? Hell no it isn’t. But the best thing for the organization is to bite their lip and just go on with the business.

“He didn’t kill anybody, alright? Is he an idiot? HELL YEAH he’s an idiot! He’d been an idiot before he got here — he was idiot. And he remains to be an idiot. But he’s our idiot who happens to be able to run some good-[arse] routes when he is healthy.

“So don’t be that person who all of a sudden, ‘I want to cut AB.’ For what? To do what? I’m telling you it wouldn’t accomplish anything cuz he’s already a Buccaneer.”

Joe couldn’t agree more. The only thing launching Brown would accomplish is hurting your own team (and Brown’s teammates) in the quest to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

What do you think Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians cares more about? Being lied to (Brown did get vaccinated in training camp — this is documented) or winning a second Super Bowl? That second Super Bowl would likely mean Arians makes it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which entails mega-earnings down the road?

What do you think Team Glazer cares more about, satisfying a vast minority of hysterical people or the hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, both short-term and long-term, that would come their way if the Bucs repeat as Super Bowl champs?

What do you think Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht cares about, saving face and dumping Brown or having another Super Bowl title to his resume so whenever/if ever he became a free agent he could demand millions from another club (and have suitors lined up around the block to hire him)?

And talk about blowing up your locker room. How many guys who were free agents last year came back this year for less cash in order to be part of history? Cutting Brown surely wouldn’t go over well in the locker room.

If the Bucs win another Super Bowl with Brown, this V-card incident will be so buried you’d need a voodoo witch doctor to remember it.

And Joe thought Beckles made an awesome point: How quick would Sean McVay sign Brown if the Bucs dumped him? You know McVay would likely fly to Tampa and camp out in front of Brown’s home if the Bucs cut ties. Maybe even drama queen Aaron Rodgers, too.

  2. Sumosam Says:

You don’t cut a hall of fame caliber guy for a vaccination card.

  3. Roy T. Buford Says:

And if Ruggs doesn’t kill someone driving drunk and speeding, he’s still a Raider. What Brown did could have really harmed people and forging a record is against the law…but the timeframe affected was NOT for the duration some in the media act like it’s been. He did get the vax back in camp, if I’m correct. Had he not done that, and if someone was actually harmed, it would be a different story. So to be clear, forging the card IS A BIG DEAL. PEOPLE SHOULD GET FIRED FOR THAT. But the fact that did get the vax pretty soon mitigates it. Yes, the media fails to take into account the last part.

  4. Roy T. Buford Says:

^^^^ I’ll add, this probably isn’t the last time Brown does something dishonest/stupid if what we hear and read he’s done is indeed true. But there is an in between solution here, which is how most situations are worked. That is, don’t cut him while you are 9-3 making a Championship run and details of his offense are known, and he serves his supsension. When the season is done, his contract is done, and so many others like JPP, Suh, Sherman, and perhaps even Brady depart, that’s the time to consider the options. This is not a “keep him forever or let him go now” situation. And for now, keep him.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Greatest line I’ve ever read from Beckles .. ‘He’s our idiot’.

  6. Roy T. Buford Says:

One more comment if you please. I haven’t followed the intricate details but if there are multiple vax forged cards coming out of Citrus County (and I’d exptect same is probably happening all over the country), it is quite likely possible the FBI would be looking at it. The cards are official documents from the CDC and HHS, and forging them is a felony that could carry a fine and/or five years in prison. Using one is the same, but the penalty would likely not be so severe. Happily, it doesn’t appear the Bucs did anything illegal but just because Brown serves three games doesn’t mean the larger scam isn’t being looked at that could have Brown and Edwards and others facing the music personally. Again, don’t cut him…as the NFL has done it’s part and Brown has paid, but people should not diminish what has happened here. No, it’s not putting your hands on a woman (Beckles), but there is still a federal crime here, and that’s for someone else to look at.

  7. Winny Testaverde Says:

Ion Heckles isn’t always right ( he’s never in doubt )…but when he is…I agree with him. This melodramatic story should die down a bit when Brown comes off suspension. Although he’s out this week of course and the Sunday nighter vs The Aints…perhaps that’s a blessing as Collingsworth & Michaels et.al cannot harp on it ad nauseam in front of a national audience.

  8. Winny Testaverde Says:

Sounds like Buford T. Justice would like to apprehend Brown The Bandit following the Bucs final snap…which will hopefully take place in victory formation at SoFi Stadium in February.

  9. Listen Linda! Says:

    Every villiage needs one.

  11. Listnfrmafar Says:

Not sure who would win in a foot race McVay or Lafleur. No Cobb, No Woods, here comes AB and there goes the Buc up in BA’s cigar smoke. Beckles doesn’t mention the other teams that got to sweep their fake Vcards under the rug. No story here.

  12. Srbija Says:

Well cut him is not a option coz some other teams can get him BEANCH him and THIS Will be punish he deserve made him 5th or 6th on roster and watch other guys play

  13. ClodHopper Says:

That’s a good point about the women. All of us has forgiven him or other athletes for far worse.

    Many great points, Joe.

  16. #8 Says:

Any of you have a fake ID when under 21 to buy beer? felony.

An unvaxxed person cannot ‘hurt’ a vaxxed person…its themselves they risk ‘hurting’. This notion that brown put others in harm’s way is silly. What AB did was dumb, but to say he put others at risk is incorrect.

To the NFL, submitting a fake cardboard shot-record & lying for a few days prior to doing the ‘healthy’ thing is worse than breaking the protocols the cardboard shot-record that is supposed to incent players to do the ‘healthy’ thing, for a few MONTHS. Thus this bs has nothing to do about player ‘health’ or safety. Its a bs political PR move.

I am vaccinated for all you haters out there. Bottom line is this entire situation is a total farce.

I am very glad we aren’t all dying for daring to go outside. Get vaccinated or not. Make a choice. Go on living & enjoy your life in the way you prefer.

  17. Razor Ramone Says:

He’s right, you just know AB would come back to roast us in the playoffs. Go Bucs.

  18. Since76 Says:

I must have missed something. If Brown put people at risk by not being vaccinated please tell me how. Vaxed or unvaxed you get covid and are contagious to others and that’s a fact. So please tell me how he puts others in any more risk than a card holder.

  19. SufferingSince76 Says:

To the majority of the fans this is a none issue. Cutting AB would be a monumentally stupid move.

  20. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Some very good comments on here for a change. I am vaxed, and I had to be or I know I would be dead if I got the virus. The vax does not stop you from getting it, spreading it, having symptoms as it was originally sold. But it may save you from dying if you have the right conditions as I do.

But for everyone, it should be a choice.

Agree with DR: “…he’s our idiot.”. Every village has one, and I think every family. We have to embrace them while they are here.

I agree with an earlier article, and it made me think. AB makes our offense twice as good. Why? We already have FOUR #1 receivers – I am including Gronk even tho he is a TE and Playoff Lenny since he is a top receiving back in the NFL (4 receivers who are in the top 10 in the NFL at their position). You add in AB, and NO TEAM in the NFL is equipped to cover them all – one (or two, or three) will be open ALWAYS

  21. DBS Says:

Let me know when you hear of a story where the FBI goes after someone with a fake V card. The courts have better thing to do than waste taxpayer money on that kind of a case. Hell IRS has a limit on the amount they will go after because of the amount it costs.

  22. JA Says:

Arians is the one who comes off as the idiot, not Brown. We all knew that already. When Brown was signed Arians made a statement claiming that one screw up from Brown would result in his immediate dismissal. What prompted him to say such a falsehood?

He should have said, “As long as Brown doesn’t kill anybody, he’s our guy.”

At least he would have been telling the truth.

Now Arians, who’s credibility has taken a nosedive, has little left except hope his ‘two-step backpedal’ will be good enough for a shot at Dancing With The Stars.

  23. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

  24. bucschamp Says:

Anybody who thinks bucs should cut idiot AB is an idiot!

  25. Listnfrmafar Says:

Do ya see a trend here? BA open mouth insert foot. No filter when it comes to content in his messages. He needs to fire one of his 100 part time coaches and hire a PR person.

I could care less about AB (and Edwards) fake vaccine card! Nor do I need to know who chose to get vaccinated.. or not.. or why they made that choice..

    I’m soooo over this SH**!

My doctor told me “we’re ALL going to get it eventually”… Everyone needs accept that and move forward with their life. 99.9% of us will survive it… I like those odds.

    Go Bucs!

Could not agree more with his podcast ( we still get his ) and Joe. Great read

  30. Rayjay1122 Says:

Nobody cares. He will be back healthy and ready to Rock and roll in the playoffs!!!

  31. gotbbucs Says:

If this is the dumbest thing AB does as a Buccaneer, then the franchise got off easy. The only thing that can make this situation spiral into a catastrophe is if Arians starts running his mouth about it and AB decides to lash out. Then things could potentially get stupid.

Set this issue off to the side and deal with it in the offseason.

  33. Roy T. Buford Says:

I agree most fans don’t care about this. Me included as Brown is paying the price for violating league rules. And it is Brown’s choice to be vaccinated or not. It is not his choice to figure out which rules in which laws he follows. That is a no brainer I am surprised some don’t get. When he doesn’t he follow the NFL rules….or the law…he may pay the price. Hence that is where the federal investigators could be interested in this scam as they are already taking action on many others around the country. Particularly for widespread fraud committed by those who are producing fake cards and selling them. Those purchasing and using the cards are are still subject to issues outside the NFL. Thinking weed laws or income tax laws and other things are dumb is fine, I agree many are. But that doesnt get you off charges when you violate the law.

  37. webster Says:

The Man, your doctor is an idiot or i am not sure he exist. My doctor has provided me steps to take to prevent from catching it. He has even warned against certain activities but not once did he say we are all going to get it. Hell by his logic, we might as well all go run in front of a train since we are all going to die someday smdh

  38. Roy T. Buford Says:

ERIK…. I don’t understand your point. What have I written that’s incorrect and what have I said that indicates any personal fear? Perhaps you should grow a brain so you will see I don’t need to grow a pair. smdh.

  39. Roy T. Buford Says:

The Man…. Did your doctor get his medical degree the same place that Antonio Brown got his vaccination card?

  42. Stone crab sam Says:

This reminds me of the time Jesus was talking to a group assembled, and he says; ‘let ye who has not sinned cast the first stone’. About then this older lady come comes up, picks up a big rock and clocks ole Jesus in the head. Jesus looks up in dismay and yells; ‘sometimes mom you piss me off’. 😂

The V stupid card is no different that –parent’s fake note to the school—

    – Please excuse AB for being absent yesterday. He had diarrhea and his boots leak.
    – AB was absent yesterday because he missed his buss.
    – Please excuse AB for being. It was his ME’s fault.
    – I kept AB home because she had to go Christmas shopping because I don’t know what size he wear.
    – Please excuse AB for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday.

That’s right, all fake! Super stupid, and funny.

  45. Crickett Baker Says:

LOL crazybucs..really funny. Not much has changed. For an aside story: Many years ago, when I was living in Tampa, the cops broke down my door and found a baggie filled with enough pot to make ONE joint. They arrested me. To make a long story short, they were going to put me in jail for two years if found guilty (I had a jury trial). When my public defender shook that baggie in front of the jury you could not even see the pot. The cops lied throughout the trial, and they even said they had used up some of the pot in “testing”. To shorten this further, I was found not guilty and two of the cops that lied were found a couple of years later when their burned-up bodies were found in the trunk of a car. Well, times have changed–or have they?

  46. HC Grover Says:

AB is a mostly good guy and he is a Keeper.

  47. Bobby M. Says:

Team is in win-now mode with a super small window to capitalize. Once Brady hangs it up, Brown is likely gone as well. I’ve said a few times…..Bucs expected Brown to be Brown, as long as he wasn’t a problem at practice, in the locker room and remained productive, they’ll deal with his baggage to accommodate Brady & Co. We’ve been fine without him, getting him back only helps and maybe the young guys are learning from him. As dumb as he is off the field, he’s an elite receiver to learn the game from.

  48. Buczilla Says:

I agree and it would be beyond dumb to cut him. Two time coach of the year and a super bowl champ. Shouldn’t Arians already be a lock for the hof?

  49. DBS Says:

@ Roy. My wife is an IRS agent. IRS has an amount they begin to go after. I did not say it is right. But it is a waste of taxpayers money to spend more on employee salary, court time exc.. Then to go after what they would recover or just to prosecute the case because the person violated the law.

  50. Joe Says:

If the feds go after Antonio Brown for the fake V-card, and the Bucs cut him as a result, that is rock solid proof the Justice Department has been weaponized and the Glazers have been targeted because they are big-time donors to 45.
